I've been looking around for a Sony Alpha for the past month and so know what ranges are available and at what price. This is no great deal. It may be for dixon which has a higher starting point, even after taking off the 2% discount noted on this deal.

This is the cheapest deal at the moment - please let us know where can you find better deal.

a great camera, picked mine up from Amazon a couple of weeks back, just in time for the £30 cash back so got it for around £210!

Is a good price compared with others at the moment though!
#5
im seriously tempted..... i have the cash but should i buy it???
#6
look at the prices vs quality of the lenses of each system as you will no doubt at some point buy a nice new lens. All modern dslr bodies are comparible in image quality but its the lenses you want to look at.
#7
Good price but only 10MP, which ain't enough in this day and age.

Much better to get the Sony A900 instead, which has 24MP...

Rubbish

We have several A200s out on field work, Paired up with 20 year old Sigma 28-70 F2.8 and 70-200 F2.8 EX glass the images are unbeatable. (Produce A3 Calendar images day in day out at 10MP)

Great camera and the kit lens is not too shabby for a starter lens, get some good old Minolta/Sigma Film lenses and you will not look back, as the image stabaliser is in the body you get the advantage of older higher quality glass along with modern image stabilser.

Yes, obviously a £1500 camera is a direct competitor for a £250 model :whistling:
#10
I've got one of these and the image quality even with the kit lens is pretty good. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend one.

Click this link if you want to see an image taken with the kit lens, but bear in mind that I am very much an amateur and someone with talent could create a far better image.

nice shot mate, seems the whole world likes it too with all your awards :P Id have tried to alter that tunnel of light slightly but then i dont know what im doing :(

Im trying to get into photography in a bigger way but my fuji finepix isnt up to it. I am a bit ashamed to own it actually lol. Really think i might go for this unless a cheaper deal comes along.

I bought one from Play.com before XMAS and am starting to appreciate how good it is. Defo a good Camera.

A couple of pics of my car taken with the cam...

"Ain't enough" for what? 10MP equates to roughly 20x16in prints without interpolation being needed. Unless you're planning on making posters of every picture you take, that's more than enough.

Obviously the A900 is a better camera, but then you'd expect it to be at 7 times the price.

True... With the cashback and quidco from Play, mine worked out around £200 but I would happily buy it again for £250 as its a great cam especially for DSLR noob's like me!

If it is the best price at this moment, it is certainly not the best time to buy this camera..

same price at amazon before the discount. Maybe a cashback site might help you get it below that cost :)

Fantastic camera.
I got mine before christmas, and really glad I chose the sony.

Camera offers so much for the price
- built in image stabilisation
- built in autofocus
- 10.2MP
- Prefectly adequate kit lens (18-70)
- 3200 ISO

The camera will produce great shots, even when used on Auto mode.

I can't comment on the price, because I haven't been keeping up with the price of them, but even for £250, its a bargain
I would definately recommend this to anyone who is wanting to get into the dSLR market

:-D Nice one mate. No, I ain't got two pennies to rub together! But if I had, then I'd get the 24.8MP A900, which is as good as the D3x but at a third the price!

The sensor on that phone will be puny - and the images next to useless.

I hate it when people say that so many pixels equals so much size of prints!

That totally depends on one's own judgement of how sharp a print is acceptable and how far you want to view it from! This is all marketing BS.

At 10MP a 20x16 inch print will look like **** if viewed anything like less than 2 feet away. Of course 10 feet away it will look super sharp.

So all this depends on what is "sharp" and how far away you want to be.

Even on a 8x12" print I can tell a top 21MP D-SLR from a 12MP D-SLR, both with the same lens.

voted hot, great price even though I got my Nikon D40x body for £90 brand new from Jessops. :p

It was the last display model..all boxed up, managed to get a 18-55 lens from e-bay for £50, not bad considering i was looking for a D40.

You are being ironic....aren't you?
It's as much down to the sensor and processors that 'develop' the image you see.
More pixels don't guarantee a better image.
I think you need to read up a bit on the subject before making glib and outdated comments.
#34
it was posted before with the price of 239£ on amazon with the cash back of 30£ from sony expire on 31 January 2009. so compare to that price it looks expensive. all together it was costing 210£.
