Perhaps. However, the pound has been weak recently, and Nikon announced price rises last week. They were excluding some DSLRs from those price rises, and the D40 is due to be replaced soon.

loads of consumer electronics prices are going up.....from what I can see all the new ranges have pretty hefty increase...I'd get in there now..while it at that price...

i liked this

This creates a negative impressions. Also, as another poster noted, there are shortages of many of their products, which I am starting to wonder if Nikon is not deliberately manipulating the markets, causing customers to rush to place orders for fear of price hikes and product shortages

Sony DSLR = Konica Minolta = 126 years of experience (As Konica. Minolta have a paltry 81). Most of the lenses are actually the exact same lenses made by KM, just with the sony name on them. They have every bit as much experience as Nikon, and a massive catalogue of old minolta lenses which work with them (i have a 50mm f1.4 minolta i bought for mine, bargain)

One piece of warning - this camera is noisy - and i don't mean image-wise. It is NOISY. it is physically impossible to take photos without someone hearing, and i wouldn't recomend it for wildlife photography - you could strartle a deer at a hundred paces with it.

I love mine to bits, and for the price it is crazily overspecced - but the menus could be easier to navigate, and the functions you want frequently could be closer to hand. Still, anyone who just wants to start getting into DSLR photography, this is a wonderful entry level camera, and even a novice can shoot pictures which will blow you away.

argh dixons website is driving me crazy

I can't understand some people on here. I posted on here that the camera is cheaper at dixons when it was on 47 degrees and since then it has gone up and up.

Nikon is the best

Nikon every time for me too. When I come to replace my D70 there's no question of which brand I'll be buying.
#21
I've had the A200 for about a year now and I still love it.

Imo it is up there with the D80, but with the benefit of anti-shake and £200 cheaper.

Re the above poster mentioning noise and menu navigation I would disagree, mine isn't any louder than any other DSLR and the menus are ridiculously simple/easy to navigate, much easier than some of the Cannons I've used before.

The one thing I wish it had were two separate control dials for Aperture and Shutter speed, as it is you have to press in a button and move the dial to change the other one.

If you want to buy new lenses for this, they're pretty expensive but you can get second hand ones really cheap that are just as good.

Why the hell would you reply to a 4-month old topic?

baaaaaa

this IS a hot deal. Currently this is the cheapest around for this camera and it does extremely well (often the best) up against other SLR's in this price range. (most people just hate it becasue of the brand)

yes it has been as low as £220 about 6 months ago but since then it has gone up. i bought one 2 weeks ago for £260 which was the cheapest at the time but that was a risk i was gonna take, not to gutted unless it drops to £220 again.

voted hot - will you take the risk?
