Using the same sersor as the Nikon D7000/pentax k-5
Best bang for buck Image Quality out there atm imo.
HIghest DXOMark score of 80 for under 1000 bucks camera. Scores higher than canon 550d/600d and on par with the much expensive nikon d5100/d7000

Really fast AF
7fps

Would definately recommend people to research into this camera who are in the market at this price point

If I had this money, I wouldn't be buying a Sony....

Looks really cheap! May have the same sensor, but like puttin a BMW engine in a cheap and nasty car, it's still a cheap and nasty car!... Buy nikon or cannon everyday of the week, if you're thinking of buying Sony you can't be professional, so go for a nikon or cannon in the £500 range instead, overall you will get much more for your money. IMO

Then your being a bit narrow minded! Sony camera bodies have in body image stabilisation, which saves you about half the price of lenses. I've got an a550 and love it: it may be a bit chunky but hell it cost £400 for the body which is better specs than any Canon or Nikon in that price point.

If you looked at the specs you wouldn't be saying that! You get better value for money out of a Sony body than any Canon or Nikon. I hate that Sony has this stigma as being the new boy on the block who is yet to prove himself! Sony bought Konica Minolta remember and they weren't any slouch in the camera market, if you look at the back catalogue of lenses you can get for Sony cameras it is way better value for money than what the other manufacturers have floating round. And don't forget that at the high end Sony has a very good relationship will Carl Zeiss who make awesome lenses! Sorry but Sony gets a bad rep for no good reason.

Sony camera bodies are very good; the reason people generally chose Canon or Nikon is they have a larger range of lenses and accessories. However if you can find what you are looking for from the Sony range in these areas then there is no reason not to seriously consider Sony.

You should avoid Cannon cameras, they are fake.

Lots of Manufacturers are starting to use Sony Sensors for mid-range DSLR's, Nikon is one and I believe Pentax also. They are a serious new competitor to the old firm in the DSLR Market!

Sony have been involved in the Sensor market for a long time, and have always been known to provide high quality ones.
Think back to the 6 Mpix days of the Nikon D70,50 and Pentax K100D ranges and they all used a Sony 6 mpix sensor that was highly regarded for image quality, tone and also able to handle high ISO noise better then newer higher mpix sensors.
I still use a model from the era.

With regard to this Sony, Midrange spec (although no top lcd :( ) anyone that didnt require anything from the Nikon or Canon glass range will be very happy with it.

BTW this BMW engine u r talking about(the sensor) that resides in the d7000/k5 is I think manufactured by Sony itself.
And who said anything about being a professional photographer. Or do u just care about looking like one.
And Cud u kindly show me which Canon or Nikon gives u more fer your money for 500 over this camera?
