It will fit a standard optical drive bay but you need to check whether your Dell has a SATA bus. (If it's a Dimension 8400, it has)

Sony Optiarc drives are really good. I ordered one of these from Play last week (at 70p more, oh well, no major loss) but it hasn't arrived yet so I haven't been able to test it. I believe it's essentially the same as the AD-7260S minus the support for DVD-RAM, but that's a barely used format anyway. The 7200 and 7240 are excellent drives, so hopefully this is as good.

The AD-7260S is £12.99 if required (despatched 4-5 days).

As posted on the previous thread, keep your fingers crossed that Play get it to you in working order, their packaging for oem items like this has been truly atrocious recently.

Got one of these the other week keeping it as a spare.

I've never seen a review that suggest the Sony drives are anything special but good price nonetheless.

Their writers are good, but I've been disappointed with the compatability or QA of their readers. Back to Lite-On for me for those...

I know that they used to be (which was why I figured substituting a Sony DVD-ROM for my preferred-but-out-of-stock Lite-On model would be a no-brainer), but I don't think that's the case for Sony's new drives.
