A quick google search shows that you can get the Sony a290 + 18-55mm lens kit for £299 delivered from RGB Photo/Camera Box (both reputable companies). Based on that, if you're a photo enthusiast, then another £50 for the 55-200mm lens and official camera case is probably quite cheap... and if this is included in Sony's "get the VAT back" promo, then even better!

Dont buy a SLR on price. Handle a few SLRs first because there are huge differences in how different cameras fits in your hand. You also have to stick with the make when you buy accessories, so be sure you can get later what you want before you commit to a brand.

Picked this up earlier, absolute bargain to get the 55-200mm lens included at £350, nearest price I could find anywhere else is £419 but that doesn't include the case!!!

definitely a good price when you look here but best to not buy just on price alone, I hope you did some research and handled a few other cameras first - (although I too do have a sony DSLR, so Kudos from me for not being a Canikon fanboy )
I think you may have been better off with the a450 for £299 (faster fps and liveview) and then sourced a second hand zoom instead of the 55-200 included in the a290 kit

bottom line is get out there and take lots of photos and enjoy your new camera - happy shooting !

Spent about an hour and a half in best buy in the morning, went home and researched for a bit then went back in the afternoon for another play then finally settle on the a290 deal, just seemed like an ideal starter kit. Nothing too complicated, the 2 main lenses I would want included and a carry bag which I deffinately needed. If I really get into it then I may look at more expensive and more advanced kit but for someone that's never had a dslr before and just wanted a low cost entry into it this deal seemed spot on
