This is Sony's highest end DSLR - cheapest i've ever seen it (it's £1.9k at most retailers)

This is PRO level equipment don't vote cold because it's not a £100 compact camera

24.6 megapixels
Full Frame
pentaprism viewfinder - 100% view
image stablisation
5 fps

Thanks, just what I was looking for, ordered, saved at least £400 (walters Photo Video) or £600 from Jessops.

at present this is cheaper than the (cut down) A850

i'll probably kick myself for not going with this deal, but i really can't justify spending another £1.3k on a camera body (my entire equipment lineup only cost £1.3k) - but anyone who's been looking for a full frame upgrade won't find a better deal than this

I have not seen an a850 below this a900 price.

Setting 24.6mp aside...what type and size is the image sensor in this?

35.9 mm × 24 mm CMOS

3CCD in a SLR would be interesting.

People might just vote cold for the low expectations you have of them. Benefit of the doubt is always best :)
#19
Great deal once other prices are taken into consideration! Wish I could afford one of these but I'm stuck with my D40 for the moment

I meant.. i would prefer more savings.. but going for lesser featured 850..

Ofcourse if its cheaper then a900

24Mp sensor is very nice, but what that means is small pixels and therefore worse noise performance than the Nikon D700 and D3.

If you're weighing out four figures for a camera, you're going to want to consider this kind of thing.

the A900 is for studio and landscape work, where to beat it you're going to have to look at medium format equipment

but if you're into sports/wildlife then probably the nikon D700 is better bet

to be fair, if you're after a full frame camera, then you will have (or should have) read every review of every camera out there before you even consider splashing the cash

In fact, having looked here:

http://www.imaging-resource.com/IMCOMP/COMPS01.HTM

Nikon wins in every shot with half the pixels.

Well I did, which is why I bought the D700.

Best DSLR money can buy IMHO.

at this price though, the a900 is £450 or so less than the D700

worth considering

Its a fantastic deal everything considered, especially if your already a Sony user already and looking for that serious upgrade.

Be warned though - The camera is good value at 1.3k but the glass to compliment the camera is going to cost you as much per piece!

Its a fantastic camera for landscape work.

I won't get into the Sony vs Canikon debate its not worth it. Head over to talk photography if you want hands on reviews :)
#28
Considering this is being offered at the same price as a D300s it's a bargain. The D700 would be my preferred camera but not at £1700. Voted HOT, a great find.

good deal ...and , hopefully, with the new Statutory Consumer Rights in Jersey Play can no longer duck their responsibilities as they have done in the past.

It's a reasonable attempt to compete against the 5D II & D700, both of which outperform it in most areas

There's need to look for a MF to beat it though as either a D3X or 1DS will eat this for breakfast :)

Good to see another player in the market though, it should keep the big boys honest

Voting Cold. As an amateur photographer I wouldn't spend that sort of money on a Sony. My Nikon D90 gives excellent picture quality at half the price with a VR 18-105 Lens. Let's be serious, Sony should stick to TV's and I have a 46" Bravia.
#33
Does it do HD video ?
#34
Its very ugly for that price, did they model it on an old film camera?

Very noisy (as in grainy at low light) sensor. Definitely not a pro-level body, I'm afraid, but it's good progress for Sony.

£200 extra will buy you a D700 and a much better range of lenses and accessories. Or if you're not a pro and you're just starting out, save a ton of money on the body and go for a D90/D5000 and buy a nice lens. I love my Nikon 18-200mm for out-and-about impromptu shooting.
#37
ahha... but the full frame sensor is worth it... I went from a Canon 400D to a 5DmkII.. Hardly ever use the flash as the ISO's can go high!
#38
Well for a full frame camera which will be compatible with cheap old Minolta film lenses this is a bargain.
I'm a Nikon fan and would prefer the D700 but at £1300 the Sony is good value.
#39
It's surprising how sony messed up the high ISO output. Consider it has almost the same sensor as Nikon D3X... That said this has to be one of the cheapest full frame around. Notice how the other 3 has been rated 9.5 for image quality - this getting 8.5 doesn't exactly install alot of confidence. If your looking in this range, might as well spend just a bit more to get a sure thing.

Price ranging high to low:

This is the hottest Full frame dslr deal I have ever seen. It is a absolute bargain. Play must be selling this at a loss.
