Deal is £329, but has a 20% discount on so works out to be £263. Only avaible for pick up by the looks of it

Looks to be a decent piece of kit for a starter DSLR

The reasonably priced Sony Alpha DSLR-A290L Digital SLR Camera + 18-55mm Zoom Lens is the perfect choice for anyone wanting a step up from a compact camera. Lightweight and compact in design and incredibly easy to use, this high quality entry-level offering from Sony opens up a whole new world of creative possibilities!

Thanks to a high resolution sensor and powerful BIONZ processing, this 14.2 mp camera delivers stunning image quality and a responsive performance. You'll be able to produce pin-sharp pictures up to poster-size straight out of the camera! Built-in sensor-shift image stabilisation helps to counteract the adverse effects of camera shake, and is a less expensive stabilisation solution than lens-based systems.

The Alpha A290 gives you all the control you need over your photography, regardless of your level. You can choose from scene selections to help you get the best from any photographic scenario, or you can switch to more traditional shooting modes such as shutter or aperture priority and fully manual. This is the perfect tool for advancing your photography seamlessly, with built-in on-screen help providing easy tuition.

Taking into account the 1.5x crop factor of the Alpha A290L's sensor, the supplied lens has a 35mm equivalent focal length of 27-82.5mm, which makes it a great everyday lens for subjects ranging from landscapes to portraits. It also represents an ideal starting point for any potential expansion of your kit, and by optionally adding a telephoto lens you'll have most bases covered!

Once you have some photos stored on your memory card, you can hook up easily to a high definition television via the incorporated mini-HDMI connector and see your creative efforts on the big screen! A USB connector enables easy hook-up to a PC, too.

Take your photography to the next level, with the well-featured Sony Alpha DSLR-A290L Digital SLR Camera + 18-55mm Zoom Lens!

Looks like a good price if you are after this camera so heat added. Gutted, but not surprised, that the Nikon D3100 isn't part of the sale as I'm still waiting for a killer deal on that, might be waiting a while!
#15
one in York if anyone's interested

I got one of these last year and have found it to be a good camera. As well as Sony lenses you can use Minolta and I got myself a big zoom lens from Fleabay.

Only drawback is no video what so ever and dark shots at night will blur if there is movement - I couldnt get good shots of NY sky scrapers at night from the boat.
#17
good price!
#18
All 3 local stores have stock here in NI for a change! [I'm assuming this blue cross sale is all of the UK]

I'll pass the info on to someone I know who is looking for just such a deal.

Many thanks :)

Also @ PCworld if no stock in currys

+1 hot, I have a sony alpha - bought mainly as you can use the majority of minolta lenses with them (although not all).

Stock lens is perfectly usable although it won't keep you entertained for long. Sony's own sal300? zoom lens can be picked up cheaply used too ;)

Sony's super steady shot system is built into the camera, unlike some others, so works with ANY lens connected to the camera.

Picked one of these up - keep any eye on the price for 6 months- cheapest I've seen. Cheers op

They have updated the online price to £263 now - presume that includes the 20%

Couldn't get it for less than £263 - anyone else have better luck?
#26
Nope I tried after reserving it online but they actually didnt have a stock , so it was trip there for nothing, they tried me to have the display model , For £150 I said yes, so you can guess the rest ,

I reserved it on the website at £315. When i went to currys they said i would have to pay the £329 they had it in the shop for. I argued that the website allowed me to reserve at £315 minus the blue cross discount of 20% so got it for £252.67 in the end. It took some convincing them though.
#28
Very well done, I tried the same thing after 30 minutes they werent having none of it though

Bought mine from Selly Oak Currys earlier, reserved at £315, with discount it scanned at £263, stood my ground and got it for £252.67

Had a little play, seems to be fantastic. Well done koalauk for getting the display model, a great deal at £250, a steal at £150

Great deal, mine wouldnt budge for £263.99 - in the end I got a used A200 off AVForums with a extra lens (sigma 100-300mm), CF Card, Wired Shutter, Official Alpha Bag, Official Battery Handgrip for £225 delivered which I am happy with. It's from a established seller who has owned it since new.

Figure for fourty quid less and all the extra kit it was a good deal!

Link no longer works, and searching on website doesn't show this camera.
