Dissapointed no SACD playback like many sony/pioneer/denon/cambridge DVD players.

Seems more $$$ for less compatibility

And sony are behind SACD.

Is it's bluray performance significantly better than the ps3? If it isn't then wouldn't the ps3 be the way to go, as you get a next gen console too?

And don't forget the SIX free blu-rays you get with it !!

How opposites attract...
Only one thing better than a set of 3 Pirates of the Caribbean movies - a set of 4 POTC movies!
Only one thing worse than a set of 3 SpiderMan movies - a set of 4 Spiderman movies!

By all accounts the PS3 performs just as well if not better than this player for the same price

I must say, I'm absolutely staggered that this is being voted cold.

Its an absolute bargain for a standalone. I recent;y bought the Toshiba EP35 HD-DVD player for £249.99, and everybody went gaga saying they couldn't believe the price. And yet here we have a Blu-ray player for roughly the same price and its voted cold! Why? How?
#8
Because a PS3 does the same job plus a lot more for not much more money? And DVDs of movies everyone has seen half a dozen times don't make enough difference...
#9
bargain if you have no interest in a ps3. voted hot.

Is blu-ray sill outselling HD-DVD? Looking at the available movies on both formats I think HD-DVD has the better recent titles. I must say I thought HD-DVD was on it's way out.

I personally would not buy a stand -alone player until one format wins, or hardware becomes available that can play both. $ony and M$ should have agreed on a single format because HD will take years to catch on without a clear winner.

Good price for the player though..
