Sony BDP-S300 Blu-ray player = £231.30 delivered from Pixmania

Sony BDP-S300 Blu-ray player delivere for £231.30 inc VAT.
OK, it's a little complicated to remove the stupid "Zen Engagement" they try to sell you, and the VIPIX loyalty card, but once you've removed them, and entered the discount code "Pix080401" during the checkout process, the delivered total comes to £231.30 inc. VAT.

And.....You get 3% Quidco on top.

Considering Play.com still have this player for £279.99 delivered, the Pixmania price seems a pretty good deal.

Buy a PS3 and get a games console to! for not much more!!!

and on a bad note pixmaia are a very bad company and plus they are in France, so no UK 7 days return.
#2
Pixmania have an awful reputation. Been crticised for grey imports and supplying non UK goods with foreign plugs and instructions. I would be wary. Prices can be good but many have complained about a lack of service if you have a problem. If in doubt look them up on Amazon and read their feedback.

I too have a had a bad experience with Pixmania customer service, and won't be using them again.

Already have an X-box360, so the £40-50 would be better spent on Blu-ray films.
Also good if you're not into gaming (which plenty of people aren't - no point spending the extra on a PS3, if you're 60+ and think gaming's for "young-uns").

European warranty still applies, and the credit card guarantees make it well worth the £60 saving over Play.com's price (although Amazon have it for £279.99 - about the next cheapest I've seen).
If it gets delivered (and your credit card warranty covers for when it doesn't), and the goods are covered by manufacturer's warranty for 12 months, so what if the retailer is a bit rubbish (I've bought plenty of stuff from Comet, and they're a nightmare to deal with :w00t:).

I had terrible trouble trying to get a promised discount from them when I bought an Ipod x2.
Terrible customer service. They make it difficult to even email them.
When you call they fob you off and promise to call back, but never do.
If you buy something and the item works ok then they are not too bad, but if there is a problem - forget it, you are on a road of trouble.

I did go back and check their Amazon feedback.
Loads and loads of 4 & 5 out of 5, but enough 1 & 2 scores to draw your attention.
When reading closer, almost all of the 1's & 2's are from people who didn't notice (although it is clearly stated on the Pixmania web-site) that the products come with an adaptor plug (so it's quite obvious it's not UK stock - if it was, it wouldn't need an adaptor plug, would it).
Quite a few reporting faulty goods (happens everywhere, so I'm guessing the low scores are due to poor customer service - and anyone with a Peugeot knows how bad customer service can be for French products :) )

Pixmania is now owned by the Dixons Group, same as Currys, Dixons, The Link, etc. CS should be no better or worse, personally never had a problem with any of them.

Cold. Wait for a profile 2.0 player if you want full spec (at least full spec when it will be released, who knows how many other profiles there will be!).

I suppose this is the problem with an incomplete, and unfinished (in terms of development) system winning the format wars, over a completed and working HD-DVD system.

Exactamundo. I have both, but am annoyed that I can't buy a better player than my PS3 so far. It's a games console, not a media player!

Currys will price match with Pixmania +they will give10% of the diff as a discount
And 3.5% Quidco. With 10% of diff will work out at £224.43 pick up in store with no probs.
#13
Voted cold I'm afraid. Have to agree with previous posters that given the relatively minor price differential a PS3 seems to make more sense rather than this standalone player, especially as the firmware is upgradeable. Doesn't the recent Blu-Ray Live upgrade make the PS3 a "profile 2.0" player?

That's if you can live with the size and ugliness of a PS3 of course.

Do you still get Quidco with price match? Normally you don't if there's any manual intervention (which is required for price match).

Also, Pixmania aren't on the list of retailers Currys "Price Promise" against.

Now now, HD-DVD is dead, and it wouldnt want you to be bitter, just remember the short time you had together and move on.
#16
From memory if you reserve on line you get 3%.For store pick up
When you go to collect make sure they use the res no to find the order when they then say the price you say
please could you price match. As good will
This way the com will have loged the number and quidco pays out.
It has for me maybe i was lucky
#17
They matched with pix in december for my wifes camera because of the top 10 hit list or somthig web site.

Just buy a PS3!!!
#19
Many people don't want a PS3 though. I love mine but using a powerful games console to watch films wastes energy, if i didn't play games I'd buy a standalone Blu-ray player instead. No point increasing your carbon footprint for the sake of features you're never going to use.

HD-DVD isn't dead actually , it lives on in HD-DVD+

If you wan't a Blu-Ray player, and you don't have money to burn, and you don't buy a PS3, you are an idiot. The Blu-Ray player in the PS3 is one of the best you can get. Also unlike many Blu-Ray players you can update the software so the player does not date!!

Edit: And lol about the carbon footprint.

Just for my information (and to prevent a further waste of my future posts).....

Is this being voted as cold because: -

a) You guys don't like Pixmania
b) You guys love the ps3 and think stand alone Blu-ray players are a waste of time
c) This particular model is a pile of poo
d) £231 is too expensive

If a); fair enough, but as part of DSG you'd have thought there'd be a certain fallback level of customer service.
If b); strange - I don't remember too many people suggesting a standalone DVD player was a waste of time (considering the previous generation of games consoles could play DVDs)
If c); It's a Sony - Surely it can't be that bad (don't Sony have a reputation for quality stuff?).
If d); OK - I'll try to find a cheaper one.

Just want to know really - As it's gone real cold, real quick.

If b); strange - I don't remember too many people suggesting a standalone DVD player was a waste of time (considering the previous generation of games consoles could play DVDs) Totally different - the ps3 profile 2.0 blu-ray player whilst this is 1.0 i believe, therefore by choosing the ps3 you are getting a higher spec machine which will also update in the future.
If c); It's a Sony - Surely it can't be that bad (don't Sony have a reputation for quality stuff?). Agreed, if someone is dead against getting a ps3 and has no real interest in all the extras that come with films then go for this i guess
If d); OK - I'll try to find a cheaper one - its not expensive compared to how much this would have been 6 months ago, but again in comparison to the ps3 you are getting far less for a similar price.
p.s. a lot of the cold votes will have come from the HD-DVD brigade

You are a day late, April the 1st has been and gone... maybe try again next year :whistling:

Sorry, cold. I'd rather have a PS3, at least the kids can use that when I'm not watching blu-ray films that I currently do not own.
#26
Cold, non updateable so not worth spending £231 on.

I think Sony Marketing would disagree with you ;-) And besides, it's very good media player!
