My local Curry's is currently selling the Sony BDP-S350 Blu-ray player for £129.95. This appears instore only (in fact the BDP-S350 doesn't seem to be listed on the website anymore.)

Although this is not as cheap as the recent Tesco deal I think it's the cheapest currently. Stocks are being cleared to make way for the BDP-S360 which I saw in Tesco today at a walloping £269.95!

I've heard of someone getting Curry's to price-match this with Tesco and he ended up getting it for £96. So if you have some balls you might give it a go.

That was me!

Got local store (Norn Irn) to match Tesco's clearance price of 99.97, plus they give you 10% of the difference so I got mine for £96. It's worth a try, talk to manager and mention the Tesco price.

Good luck everyone.

Can you advise how you were able to prove this as I always find Sprucefiled a 'hard nut to crack'.

Thanks

Went to Tescos and asked them bring 350 up on their system. Price was shown as 99.97. Asked if they could print out proof. However as the only machine in stock was the one used to play blus through the TVs the system would not print a price but would only show it on screen. Went to Currys, talked to member of staff ( young girl trying to be helpful, avoid the guys) she spoke to manageress who said they needed proof. Girl rang Tescos asking price and was told that someone had just been in asking same thing (me ). She said they had none in stock so I was out of luck. I thought I'ld try again later in Tescos, but as I walked towards door manageress said no problem and price matched! Success!

All I can suggest is something along similar lines, or perhaps tell them Derry store price matched. Good Luck.

I'm now trying to remove dvd region coding from the machine as per AVForums instructions.

Nice one!

[and thanks for the PM BTW :)]

I'll give it a go maybe tomorrow, although my local never did have the Sony player AFAIK - worth a try.........

Only get them to confirm price, if they can print it out for ou that's all you should need. If they can't print it take a photo of the computer screen I find if you say why you're afte r the info they are amenable. Only other suggestion would be to pinch the shelf ticket if there is one in Tescos! This is what the girl in Currys suggested initially!

Good luck for you visit.

BTW the Sony is a great machine, I'm using it with a 720P projector, blus are fantastic and it upscales superbly.

any problems with motion jitter on blurays, like juddering in panning shots? It looks a bit like low framerate video, I've always seen it really bad on every player/tv combo in the shops, even if they are supposedly 24p tvs and players..

If the video is smooth on this with a 24p tv (like mine) then I'll think about getting one.
#7
Sorry but I've only tried it with 720p projector which won't do 24p, when I tried it projector almost had heart attack and shut itself down, I thought it had gone faulty!

So is video smooth when it isn't in 24p mode?

Oh yes! I read your post over on AVF. Well done. Unfortunately arouhtnd here (E. Yorks) there are no Tescos with the cheap Sonys so there's nothing to pricematch with.

Why not ask Tescos to check price on their system, it will come up at 99.97 even if they have no stock. As I said above all you really need is proof that Tescos are selling them at that price and someone in Currys not playing silly ******s - it worked for me. Currys will only need to see something that shows this. If they phone to check stock then it's a waste of everybody's time.

Good luck everyone.

Excellent price. Although i was lucky enough to get an ex-display model from tesco for £90 yesterday.
#13
No one else had any luck with this?
#14
Nope.

None of my local Tescos ever had them - [not showing on system anywhere]

Even the Panasonic BD30 can't be found anywhere :-(
#15
Should have shown up as being out of stock? But the price should be on screen? Proving the price is all that should be necessary for Currys to price match.

Excellent machine both with blus and upscaling dvds. pity you can't find one especially as it's replacement the 360 is £269.99!

So it was the Curry's store up in the Crescent Link you managed to get to price match?

Yup. Why do you ask?

Will probably head up soon then and see if I can get them to do the same.
