Good deal.

I'm personally going for the Blockbuster deal as would have bought the 4 included dvd's anyway and works out cheaper this way for me.

If you buy this player you get two free Blu-Rays when you register it with Sony (Ends Jan 09). Casino Royale and Batman Begins.

not as good as the £129 price i got it for from Laskys about a month ago, but still a good price.

some discs take ages to load. but at this price, and the price i paid, i would not complain.

You got agreat price but Laskeys have confirmed was one off and would not be repeating in near future. Amazon same price but did not honour most orders.

As it stands this is cheapest around (Richer sounds will match and slightly better though) and should be voted hot.

Blu-ray players are gonna drop in price like a stone after Xmas, along with other electrical stuff, as the trade tries to shift all their unsold inventory.

So many questions remain over the format that really, if you want to buy right now, you must be a little mad.:p

Get a PS3 if you're desperate 'cos it will retain some resale value and you can play games but with deflation and the associated economic turmoil, most people are better off sticking with SD-DVD right now.

What a load of tosh.

If you want a BD player then this is a great player and a bargain. Cheaper than the equivalent HD DVD player when they were selling full price. I cant beleive how cheap they have become so quickly for what is the premium disc format.

You cant wait forever for things to come down in price and never enjoy anything if you listen to the likes of Cheapskate.

Oh and dont buy this for £170 but go out and pay another £130 for a PS3 instead/ :w00t:

I'll be happy to lay some money on my contention:p

Have you factored the increased costs of weak sterling? I can;t think of many BD players being built in the UK can you?

Thought not.

It's not a Amazon offer but a Sony offer.

So you think that that is going to help?

You are a very dim lamp:p

Or should that be a blunt sword?

Errr help what?

You have said the prices are going to tumble, I said that the weak pound will mean high import costs and would keep prices high despite the deflationary pressures of the current economy.

Not sure you even know your own logic so how am I to understand your babbling?

Well, let's go through this in Janet and John steps.

Existing goods are already in the country and the weak Pound will preclude importing more of the same at the same or a lesser price.

If this as cheap as they are going to be for a while - at least for a profit to be made for the retailer and manufacturer - then this is not a particularly good price for an old-hat machine without a particularly compelling reason to buy it.

Therefore, as these are not state-of-the-art machines and they are expensive by any reasonable measure, not too many are going to be sold right now - particularly as we are entering a recession or worse still, a depression.

Thus it's inevitable that there will be a fire sale market in the New Year to off-load existing stocks. Furthermore, this market environment will not be favourable for the mass importation and sale of new models. As it will be too expensive to import new models to a depressed market, the product will not be something you would want to invest your pension in the next five years or so.

In any event, within five years, it will be an utterly pointless technology.

Quod erat demonstrandum:p

These are state of the art machines, they are current generation Sony players, only released a few months back. Why do you think its an old hat machine? it's a 2.0 spec machine. The S300 is the old hat machine not this one.

I'm not investing my pension in Blu Ray, Im buying a throwaway item that I can use to watch HD films. Currently the only way to watch new HD films by the way. All for less than £170. I'm not sure anyone would have believed us this time last year.

As for your Janet and John steps.... What are you talking about. Have you stopped arguing prices will tumble and are now arguing something else now? I'm confused. They will still be imported after stocks have been sold. And as for fire sales, yes they may fall a bit more, but they may not, maybe this is the fire sale, either way £170 for the current generation 2.0 BD player from Sony is a bargain for anyone with any interest in HD films.

You obviously have no interest in such a device so why spend you precious time populating a thread discussing one. Very weird.

The Amazon deal includes £15 off if you but any three of their selected items...Choose from Music, DVD, Blu Ray & Games

For example I chose all blu ray...

+ enter the code LOWERVAT in the checkout section to get a further 2.5% discount...

Total paid was £175.23 with delivery

You also get the two disc from sony via rebate... (batman begins & casino royale)
