Are the discs brand new discs, or are they used/rental discs? usually when they do this sort of giveaway I have seen them give away the used discs.

If they are brand new discs its a great offer...if they are used, then without looking too hard for a solid deal, this atleast is a better deal IMO....

especially as blu ray discs are likely to be on offer over christmas anyway, I have already seen some for under £10 posted on here.

What's the best price for a PS3 these days?
#15
just spoke to them on the phone apparently the batman begins and casino royale you have to send away for. which is a bit of a bummer but it is still a great deal!:)
#16
still too expensive to buy blu ray players until there less than £100 i wont be bothering besides after being told last week blu ray is dead already due to the problems with discs not playing properly on blu ray players and so many people complaining about the players problems ill wait for the next generation im quite happy with dead HD right now its cheap and its stuningly not over priced as a throw away item, £50 for the player £3 for the HD dvds....lol

What's the best price for a PS3 these days?

Got an 80GB PS3 in Tesco (in Ireland) last week for €299 (or roughly £243) but it was a 25% off sale.

Best price for a PS3 is definitely gained for going for a bundle though. This bundle (Sony Playstation 3 80GB + LittleBigPlanet + GT5: Prologue + PS3 Mega Pack for £299.96) in Argos is very good though..
#18
FYI , I called the store at Peterborough and asked about the offer
which was confirmed to be exactly as the original poster stated.

No mention of the films being a send away offer though.

HOT from me cheers:thumbsup:

Somebody told you a load of sh!t my friend, it's the other way round, most playback problems are with HD-DVD not blu ray and I'm speaking from experience as I own both formats.
#23
I have one of these players and it's great - they all come with Batman Begins and Casino Royale btw (you sign up online using the disc in the box), so wherever you order it from you'll get those two discs.

Be aware that the price of this spiked down to £129.99 in Amazon and Laskys last friday - it's now £175.98 at Amazon, so you'll need to work out if those 4 extra discs are worth £24
#24
I would wait, there are going to be some major price drops in blu-ray soon.

£199 is too expensive? You realise how much DVD players were when they first came out? Between £400 and £600 at least. Like-wise you do know much DVDs were? I think I paid £17.99 for my first DVD.

People just want cheap stuff nowadays.

I think you get what you pay for......pay pennies, you get penny chews.......Blu Ray is the way to go........HD DVD is dead, but cheap........they just need to clear the last of the HD "Beta" DVD players and that's it, no more cheapen's.
#30
As already mentioned, Batman Begins and Casino Royal are a give away by sony upon regitering the player online. Richer sounds sell the player in store for £169 so are the 4 free blu-rays worth £30? Probably.
This is a good deal but not amazing.
Not voted either way.

It is a good player btw (I got mine for £129 from amazon).

excelent offer

Mmmm not so sure on this one. You can easily get a decent BR player for £150 now so its down to if you want all those films. Personally I would say there are 3 decent ones but its down to personal taste. Part of it is the cost of BR movies still around £13 - £17 I guess so there is a small saving if you want all the films. I am guesssing most people would rather pick up a player for £150 and choose their own films....

You dont say, as oppsosed to wanting to pay top banana for everything. I would wait still way over the top
#35
If the deal was £99 it would be worth considering any other price with just 6 (4) tiles not worth it. 10 movies and player £149 maybe.
#36
don't think it's a great deal. Especially if they have been at £129 recently.

If i was gonna spend £200 I would def pay a little more and get a ps3!

i've got 2 of each format and not had 1 playback problem yet ....

COLD from me, the player was 129 a few weeks ago.
#39
Tempted except I bought an upscaling dvd with usb a few weeks ago (thanks to ukhd) and her indoors would pop a gasket if I bought another. Just out of curiosity, does a PS3 play .avi files off a usb memory stick? And are any UK PS3s gong to be backwards compatible or I have I missed that boat?
#40
The more I think about this it really is not a very good deal. Youa re basically paying full price for the player and the films. So what if you dont want all those films ?

People talking about DVD the difference is everyone has DVD now and the difference in quality to most people on a screen smaller than 50" from standard viewing distance is negligible. Obviously people without a 1080p screen will see little or no benefit over DVD anyway on a standard 32" size screen.

You can pickup DVD players for less than £20, dvd films for £3 - £5. Do people really want to spend £150 on a BR player or £300 on aps3 then £15 odd on BR films. I really dont think so. We are just going into the biggest economic slump for almost 80 years.

BR is the wrong product at the wrong time Toshiba are well out of this race it will be years before it’s at a price and people have the screens for BR to be a viable format. What is it with Sony and proprietary formats? They never learn.

I also think the format war has done a huge amount of damage to BR even though they won in the end. HD video format in general plus the abundance of £3 HD DVDs for the last year. People have lost allot of faith I am a high end user and I still only have half a dozen BRs...

No backwards compatability on any new UK ps3s. Sony lied and shafted user base. I am lucky I got a launch 60gig which has decent compatability.
