Trying to find a BluRay player suitable for my g/f's mother, looking for a unit that has a USB port and will allow playback of DivX Movies (AVI/MP4) off an External USB Hardrive. I've googled it but cannot find a straight answer in regards to if this unit is able to do this..............

If any one has this unit could let me know if it does, that would be greatly appreciated!!

The rear-mounted USB port is only for BD Live storage, and it only plays MP3 and JPEG from discs.

i found the above info from google.....

Thanks.

Well when I was googling, i was googling Sony S360 USB DivX Support. Took me to a couple forums where people would ask the question but had no answer.

So thanks for clearing it up.

What about the one below, they seem to be in stock for home delivery with Argos?

This will play AVCHD discs too. That is handy if burning DVDs from your HD Camcorder.

Note that the S370 is out soon. Not sure what the new version has over this though? It might have better start up performance?

no divx support for this player... good player apart from that

yes, thats the same for most brand names - you need a non brand name to be able to do what you require or look into a alternative eg. xbox360/playstation/slingbox
seen district 9 and dont want the michael jackson yawnathon and heard 2012 aint great

I agree wasnt this £99.99 plus 3 free movies only a couple of months ago!!
#11
It was indeed that price at Play.com
They also did it for £80 on it's own which is the offer I went for , so you are paying £40 more for three films and some discounted rentals.

Ok if you wanted the films anyway but if they aren't to your liking it may be better holding off for another cheap player-only deal.

Isnt this Argos one a very good deal on its own?
#13
i think sony were heavily subsidising the £80 offer, probably misjudged blu ray player sales for xmas day and clearing excess stock, also gets people talking about them more increasing take up, doubt we'll see £80 sony bluray players for a fair while now :( not too bad though the picture quality is worth every penny even at this price

Excellent player, got one myself in all the deals in and around xmas. Does what you want from it, plays Blu-Rays, DVD's and generally a very competent player.

PS3s will do this too won't they?

(as I keep meaning to get one and I want to make sure it'll do what I need it to)

It will do, but you don't get a gooda picture off a ps3 as to a standalone blu ray player

I have used the ps3 for blu rays aswell, but if the picture on it don't bother you then go with that.

The picture the ps3 provides is every bit as good as a stand alone alone blu ray. I have both a ps3 and a separate pioneer blu ray. The picture on blu ray discs is no different. Please don't make up things.

im afraid ps3 will only play a limited amount of videos. This is limited to mp4 files and avis.

I heard a few people mention file playback from a usb stick. Check out the LG bd360 which can be had for around 100 pounds it will playback virtually any file including mkv avi etc. Both audio video and picture. It is also a much faster loading and responsive unit than the above Sony.

Cheers. USB support with avi (and pref mkv too but not essential) is what I'm looking for. Just toying with the idea of a PS3 because there is the odd game or two I'd like.

Now I'm just looking for the money...
