Seen this player a lot on here! £99.99 seems to be a good price for the player and that is the price on play.com, but you can still use the voucher code SECRETSANTA10 to get 10% off this player - just tried it and it still works!

Player is in stock and free delivery, 3% quidco too I think!

And before you comment... Yes, I know this is available for £79.99 tomorrow from Richer Sounds, but that is 500 in the whole country, so getting one could be difficult, this one can be ordered now and delivered to your house, no hassle!

IF you dont want to fork out for the £70 wifi dongle can you just plug in an ethernet cable?

You can indeed.

Voted hot. Excellent player at a fantastic price. Got one of these today as a present and I'm massively pleased with it.

If you have a richer sounds near you they will be doing it for £79,99.
#6
Great player. Getting it network connected is worth the effort. I used homeplugs and a wireless access point to get 4 rj45 points. If you have a smart remote like a harmony one you can make the DVD (not blu ray) region free.
#7
I got this last week, it's more than amazing. Not only am I surprised by the quality of the picture, bluray really is cool, but the live streaming of lovefilm, iplayer, and networking your videos and pics from your pc is brilliant. It just works so well. Buy this if you're looking for a bluray and all the trimmings.

Does this code work with anything else?

I don't agree, if you're looking for "all the trimmings" then go for the S570 - it's wireless, has a quicker start-up and it's 3D out the box.

The S370 is still a great player though :)

Great piece of kit at a great price!
I've had mine for 6 months and it is brilliant, iPlayer is fantastic and playback is great!
If your router is nearby you can use an Ethernet cable instead of forking out for the dongle.
#11
I have a game adaptor that I was using with my TIVO previously, plugged that to the back of my Sony device and that seems to connect wirelessly to router upstairs from d/stairs. Another alternative to Sony dongle or long ethernet cable?

Can anyone recommend it even though I have a Foehn & Hirsch Blu Ray??

Main benifits to you would be iplayer and five on demand. F&H player was able to play region a discs though.

Things like picture, sound and build quality are quite subjective and would depend on what kit you plan to use it with.

Funny enough I have upgraded to this Sony from the Foehn and Hirsch player and although for the price it is a OK, I hated how slow it was, the Sony boots in less than 3 seconds with the quick boot turned on and over twice as fast as the Foehn and Hirsch with it off. The Foehn and Hirsch only played up to 1.25 GB of an Mkv file which was a pain so hopefully the Sony plays the full size files (not tested yet) also the Sony is easily Firmware upgradable which is necessary.
Picture and sound is also more detailed on the Sony, goes great with my Panasonic G20 TV.
Yes for this price I recommend the upgrade to the Sony ;)

Can someone comment on the 5OD and BBC Iplayer streaming quality?
Finally got internet that will support streaming iplayer etc so this sort of thing could be awesome for us!

and really importantly can it be region hacked?

It's good. My parents haven't the best broadband package by a long shot, but the quality is about DVD/720 area. It's more than watchable. Better than my computer quality, but my comp is a few years old.
#22
For those that prefer, it is also £99.99 at the sony centres, which is fantastic, if they still give the 5 year warranty??
#23
bit of a dilemma. If anyone can help me.
sony home cinema system bdv e370 for £250 or
this bds 370 player and the sony av system htas5 from amazon total price £210

Will be used in the bedroom with panasonic txp42g20b.

Can the bdv e370 blu ray player do all the stuff of the bds 370?

Thanks

Don't really need anything attached to it just blu ray. Have freesat and freeview so don't need any additional boxes.

Only reasons I wanna ditch my F&H is that I hav read around that it isn't full HD? More 720P? Also it's noisy as f*ck! Revving like a mother Fricker! Have you set it up with the Internet then? As you could do it with the F&H but never bothered.

I have a Samsung 37, with Samsung 5.1 DTSDolby surround. Only bought the 5.1 for Blu Ray but my F&H was a disappointment.

Another question though...

Worth buying this, if I plan on buying a PS3 over the coming months?
#25
Can this machine disable 24p via auto detection. If a TV doesnt support 24p with the machine detect this and sort the situation out accordingly?
#26
after viewing the bdv e370 the looks alone just put me off. Have decided to get the panasonic bt230 or bt330 since they look slick and heard they sound pretty good also from reviews.
suspended#27
Does this do anything a PS3 doesn't?
#28
Not sure what there is not to like about the looks, it's thin and black and the display doesn't glare.

Iplayer streaming works OK and looks good on my 2.5mb/sec ADSL. probably have problems with anything much slower.
#29
Now expired - back to £99 but still worth it IMHO.
#30
Thanks for posting. Just ordered and confirmed for £89 using the promo code. Heat added.

No, if you use the code (as already detailed) it is still £89.99.

I was considering that combo of BDPS370 & HTAS5, but the HTA5 is no longer available for £129.99 on Amazon - marketplace has it for £179.99 (original proce).

Just bought this last week, elsewhere, but its amazing as i have a Sony TV the bravia link works nicely, and although MKV`s up to 4GB (fat32) it plays MKV2VOB breaks play fine too with less than second pause between, picture quality is superb, 1080p polar express BD was great on Xmas eve. up scales DVD excellently.

got a 1TB external plugged in, and ripped my entire BD and DVD collection to it most i encoded at 720p but my favs i kept at 1080p and DVD`s i rip at 576, still got 250GB to play with :), works nice with folders, plays pretty much everything I have thrown at it, now and again get a audio not supported error but still plays it? and only had one MKV that wouldn't play.

as it wont play a couple of foreign BD`s I have again just ripped them to HDD and they play nice.

They are partnering this deal with £7.50 off Alien Anthology but I can't get it to work (as of 10 mins ago) - if I add them both to my basket (as it suggests in the massive promotional box on both items' pages), it actually ADDS £1 to the boxset price!!

Has anyone else managed to get this bundle deal to work?
#36
Ive bought the HTAS5 surround sound, does this blue ray player go with that system ?
#37
Dont forget there is a genuine sony iphone & android remote controller app for this player just check out their relative online store/market.

The app is called "media remote" but it may be easier to search for "BD remote" as that's in the title too. How to sync it to the player is contained in the application's help.

Thanks again
