Thanks for the hint, eljay1!

I bought this previously when it was on offer for that price and am very impressed with the picture quality - both for Blu Ray and the upscaled DVDs. Also, you get internet TV which is working well.

Only downside as called out by some people is that it is not the most silent unit. This is my first Blu Ray player so I can't compare with others, but it definitely makes more noise than my Sony DVD which is standing next to it.

Standard price now? It's been this price off and on for 3 months.

Just a warning to anyone interested in this as a media player. I bought one last week and had to take it back as the playback of video files is very poor.

Will only recognise a few formats over a network, and nothing very large, and although it will play more formats via a USB connected hard disk it only recognises FAT32 formatted drives so no files over around 4gb.

However, if you only want it for blu-ray, plus things like iPlayer it seemed a very nice device, with an easy to use menu system.

Another thing that might be interesting:

I have this player connected to a Samsung LED and the TV recognizes the player as a "Anynet" device, so with the remote of the TV you can also direct the Blu-Ray player.

For those who want to make the DVD player (not Blu ray) multi region and have a suitable remote (I used a Harmony One) http://www.avforums.com/forums/blu-ray-dvd-player-multiregion-hacks/1178732-diy-sony-bdp-s360-region-free-using-harmony-remote-programmed-manually.html

good deal, was tempted to buy however it only plays mkv's that are up to 4gb, can anyone point me in the right direction for a bluray player that plays mkvs regardless of file size?

thanks

Excellent player, I'm well impressed with it for the money. As it's part of Sony's latest range I can't see it going below this price for a while... but don't quote me on that. ;-)

From Amazon it was £130ish the other day as I know someone that is after it. Said to wait, so thanks OP for letting us know it's on offer again!

Cheers, that's what I thought. I have myself missed out on good deals a couple of times and was happy when somebody reposted when the price came down again a week or two later ;)

A side note from NTFS/FAT32 and mkv's It is important to remember that the MKV is just a container it is nearly always the video and audio files inside the MKV that causes them not to play if the player doesn't support the codec/encode used end of story. Problems only really occur with LG machines if the profile is greater than 4.1 or the Audio files are DTS-HD MA or True HD but you mostly find those in AVC files anyway.

If you looking for a bluray machine as primarly for MKVs then buy a dedicated media machine. Blu-rays are best for blu-ray/dvd playback and media playing capabilities as an added bonus. In the £100-£250 bracket there there is very little difference in PQ with any of the current blu-ray players imho the main difference in these players is how they upscale standard SD DVD's

Can confirm the LG BX580 or BD390 or BD570 definitely play most of the common +4gb files 720/1080p 'mkv' files you can readily obtain on an NTFS formatted ext HDD, I would say I have a 99% success rate of what I play on my machines because I always look for video codec and audio format used in the mkv. Before everyone posts oooh my machine plays everything remember I am referring to the LG machines nothing else.

The one listed BX580 above represents the best value and is 3D and a current machine so will be better supported by LG

Although all the LG's listed will play NTFS formatted drives any file size my preference is the LG BD390 because as well Bitstream via spdif it has analogue out if you have an old legacy amp which the other 2 don't, but the spdif option is equally good if needed just nice to have the other option. The LG BD390 is no longer made, so stock hard to find.

Best I can see if interested is Zavvi £168.50 with 10% off code (Quidco possible as well)

If anyone from Brum is interested, then I have a brand new one of these still sealed in the box. Got it as a special bundle last week with a TV.

If anyone wants to make me an offer and pay cash on collection then feel free. (No mickey takers though)

Apparently an ethernet bridge will do the job. Just configure it while connected to a PC and then connect it to the S370...although I bet its not that simple in practice. I've gone for the TP-Link TL-WA701ND (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002YETVVE/ref=oss_product) but the price has just gone up today by a couple of quid.

Gutted - Just paid £129 for this at John Lewis. Do get 2 years warranty though I suppose!

Phone up John Lewis Customer Services and give them details of this deal, you may be entitled to a credit for the difference if you've bought it within a week or two.

Don't think that they will price match with Internet only retailers.....The best you can hope for is that JL drops the price within 28 days of your purchase; you will be able to get the difference back.

Same here except I bought it from Tesco Direct for £119. Only consolation is Tesco offering £10 voucher over £100 spend and quidco took it down to ~£105. I didnt think they'd be reduced again before Christmas and its a present :|

Edit - I just looked at Amazon - its now £115.
