Great player, great price. Hot!
#3
That really is a great price for a cracking piece of kit. If I didn't have one already I'd jump at that. Scorchio!

Already own 2 of these players and they are great. Amazing price.oO

Great price for a super Blu-ray player, it's just a shame the dongle for wifi costs £60 - £70. I heard you might be able to use homeplugs but haven't tried them myself.
#9
Also, I can confirm this has BBC iplayer and can be linked to your lovefilm account which is just fantastic, and very easy to use.
#10
you can watch iplayer HD programmes also

great blu ray player :)

mkv?

Yes, will play mkv from either usb hard drive / memory stick (FAT32 only), or will stream directly from your PC thanks to DNLA. As mentioned previously, also has BBC iPLayer, 5 On Demand, LoveFilm, YouTube, Sky News. Also plays SACD.
#14
Very nice deal, tempted myself as it can do MKV etc. and I was thinking of getting a WD Live+ or something similar to play my collection. Would this Sony Blu-Ray player be comparable? I don't have a Blu-Ray player yet so if it does a reasonable job of MKV/AVI/MP4 etc. it seems a no brainer :)

Will only stream mkv via pc acting as media server and will not stream from shared drive.
Sony fail to give this information make sure it does what you want it to do as Sony make a lot of claims that are not strictly true with there products.

I have this it's brilliant. dnla is a breeze, it just works. all computer music now played through this via homeplugs, i guess identical for video. optical audio output as well (I run it through a DAC). It's the one box your telly needs basically.
#17
None in my local. Expected in though.

just phoned and reserved one, thanks !! :D

Sony don't claim that it will stream media from a network attached storage, they clearly state it requires a DLNA media server. Some NAS drives do have a DLNA server built in, such as iomega's home media network hard drive, which I have on my network, and I can confirm that the S370 streams from it no problems....

I have no idea what this means (I'm not very technical). Will it play mkvs from a DVD/+or-RW and USB memory stick or not? I assume so, but thought I should check!

Oh, also, is there a way to download a firmware update to a USB memory stick and apply it that way? This player would go in the bedroom, and there's not really any way I could easily hook it up to the internet from there.

It has various inbuilt widgets/channels/apps(and is adding more). I use iplayer etc and stream music etc from my bedroom computer on this through homeplugs, amazed and how well it worked, no set-up other than plugging it all in. also it has youtube, I've used that a couple of times but fiddly typing from remote. lovefilm i haven't used. If you've ever seen a PS3 it is the same interface/functionality.

Ordered a refurb one from the Tesco Direct shop on Ebay on Friday for this price. Pity I hadnt waited another day and spotted this instead, for a new one. They have them at my local Blockbuster for £110 so this is a cracking deal if you can find a store with one.

homeplugs work perfectly, though you are dependent on your electic wiring

for me, i have the netgear xav101s (three) and xav1004 (one) and all run at min 130mb/s+....fastest is 195mb/s......you are lucky to get over 100mb/s on wireless n but even if you do (trust me real world unlikely) quality is poor compared to near faultless homeplugs

Thank you for the answers regarding the use of Homeplugs guys.

Any particular brand recommended or are they all the same? Also, could the PS3 keypad be used with this? This one: http://www.game.co.uk/PS3/Accessory/Keyboards/~r338717/Official-Sony-PS3-Wireless-Bluetooth-Keypad/

Thank you in advance.

How does the bluray playback on this compare to the PS3 ?

Don't worry, I bought one from the Tesco Outlet for £79 and mine was in 100% as new perfect condition; and it comes with the 12 month warranty. Had to to do a firmware update (waiting for my homeplugs to drop through the door so did it by burning on to CD) which was dead easy.

Also bought a chipped remote for £9.99 and made it region free for DVD. That was a one button press and done in seconds. It's loaded with 8 changes. Used it twice (mine and a friend) so pm me if you want to 'buy' this off me to region free yours.

It has 8

Is this really a serious question?

The PS3 is a gaming machine. This is a dedicated bluray player.

No contest - the 370 wins!
#36
have one of these prom a prev deal, prob wont find better for the money, integrated iplayer (inc HD for supported programmes), youtube, demand 5, hooked up via homeplug works flawlessly, dont waste money on wifi dongle

The 370 is different class IMO. I also find the 370 to be much better than my previous Sony upscaled DVD machine. Picture quality is as good as you would expect, but start-up time and loading time are excellent.

I use LoveFilm and Sony's Qriocity movie streaming service and the quality is terrific. Qriocity is pricey, but I took advantage of the £15 voucher to test the quality. iPlayer is the best I have every used in terms of the user interface and quality.

As a Blu-ray player alone this is a bargain. Adding in iPlayer and it is a steal.
#38
Apologies all for the multiple refresh :(
#39
The only tiny flaw I've found with mine is that when playing back BBC iPlayer, the volume can sound distorted on some programmes (strange!), so much so that I have to switch to my Virgin cable box to watch the iPlayer. Everything else is superb.
