The more upmarket (but older) Sony BDPS760B Blu-ray Player is also available for just a tenner more. The thing is after reading the spec I am not entirely sure what the differences are or which is the better buy. Can any informed person advise?
The S760 is just a fiver more - good spot. I believe it does not have the "3D", BBC iPlayer or YouTube abilities that the S570 has. The S570 also has built in wireless though I'll use a cable myself.

The S760 may have better quality playback, I don't know, but if it has it's probably not noticable - the S570 gets great reviews for its quality. I would guess the S760 has better a better 'finish' physically i.e. be less 'plasticy' - that doesn't bother me personally.

I want the iPlayer and 3D features as I probably won't buy another BluRay player, at least not for years anyway.
The 570 is the better deal. It works faster, gives better sound and pictures and can also play 3D blu rays.

I'm surprised this isn't hotter....
Thanks for the feedback.
im always amazed that people buy these over a ps3.
I've had the S570 for about two months now - excellent player. I don't need a PS3, it'd be more faff to use one instead of a dedicated player.

I bought one of these players from Amazon a couple of months ago, it is faster at loading discs than my previous blu-ray player (Sony BDP-S550) but does not look as good and feels cheaper but has the 3D compatibility that I needed to go with my new 3D tv so I had to upgrade.

This site baffles me sometimes(_;); I listed this model for around £170 2 months ago and got a -115 feedback; people said it was too much to spend on a Blu Ray player
Anyway I purchased it and it is a very good machine; it plays WI FI brilliantly

I know what you mean. It was probably at the same time as the S370 was being sold everywhere for £100. People refused to spend more, or could not see the merits of also having built in wifi (separate dongle costs £50+) and also 3D, as well as the slightly improved picture and sound. This place is harsh at times.
I put this on HUKD when I purchased it a couple of months ago ,have to say am really impressed and love the feature of being able to watch stuff on it from my computer too, and my iphone also works as the remote 10/10

Regarding the PS3 vs stand-alone. I don't know about other people but the reason I am going for the stand-alone BD player is because it is about £100 cheaper (than a slim) and I don't need the other features of a PS3.

I hope that helps you guys who are amazed :)
Right now you can also get the VAT on this product as cashback direct from Sony - see this page on Amazon's website

Takes around £25 off the price. Also consider that Sevenoaks/Audio-T are doing this player multiregion (for DVD only) instore at £179 and that might suit some who have lots of multiregion DVDs.
Add the vat back offer from sony and this is especially good !
Ordered , thanks
