hey you could only get a normal dvd player for that much 10+ years ago....
how long before a blue ray player isoly 20 quid ???
#2
About 6 years I reckon. For Blu Ray, currently the best option is just to buy a PS3. For a little extra you get the Blu Ray player and the most advanced games console on the planet. AND - that's not a bash at the Xbox360 - it's cool too (but no blu ray).

Is the PS3 noisy when your playing a blu-ray what with fan noise and dvd spinning noise ?

The PS3 is really quite, you don't notice it when a film is playing. The xbox 360 sounds like an aeroplane landing in comparison to the PS3

well way back then that was the price if you wanted the latest tecknology , before that i bought a laserdisc player that cost similar money, and was paying £100 per movie on import, i even paid £250 just for the starwars films on laserdisc, and that was when i was earning just over a £100 a week :p its all relative really.

Actually I do notice the PS3 'sound' when playing a DVD or Blu-ray - you do get used to it quite easily - though saying that it is silent in comparison to my 360 HD-DVD drive!

Btw good selection of DVDS with this bundle - I'd snap it up if I didn't have my PS3

Hot as hell:thumbsup:

My first was £220 (3 months old)
Second £450
Third £629 (I must have been insane!)

Won't be spending such lavish amounts again on Blu though.
#11
I'm so tempted by this offer, the quidco comes to £8, and the Blu-rays are worth £62 at their lowest current online prices - and are well decent too!

I hate the fact I have to switch my DVD's/Blu-rays for my current PS3 game every night when using my PS3 to watch my films - and also having no time display without hitting a remote button - only to view it on screen.

Cheers OP you've ruined my night lol

Kingdom of Heaven puts me off. Anything that has that anti-western propaganda tagged onto it gets cold from me.
#13
My PS3 is quiet. Although I sit a good 8 feet away from it.

By the way Die Hard 4 is an awesone Blu-ray transfer. Well worth the money.

Yeah, I remember those days as well - worst I went to was £400 for a Pioneer DVD player with vcd playback.:whistling:

You spent £1,000 on a laser disk player while earning £100 a week? Are you insane? Did you spend 6 months salary on a TV to get proper use out of it?
#17

Can this player be upgraded as they develop bluray like th ps3?

Until this can be done and less than £75 (like my hd-dvd player), I ain't going anywhere near bluray!

Oh, and I paid £330 for my first Panasonic DVD player - top of the range, fantastic build quality - from Richersounds, reduced from £500 IIRC.So stil a relative bargain!:whistling:

Cheers.

whats the point of Blu - Ray ?

standard dvd has perfectly fine image quality, there is no need for HD TV or Blu-Ray....

Oh I forgot, dvds are very easy to copy these days, I knew there was a reason for Blu-Ray, paranoid Sony, who else..
#20
i guess i still have not learned from past spending mistakes.... £200 jumper, £750 duvet, etc
thank god hukd came into my live ... but just bought a pio plasma for twice the price i could have got the second best plasma to it for....cant justify £200 on blueray though while the disk are still more than £3 average like dvd's currently are... but hey i'm sure i'll have to take all this back at some piont in the near future,,
does any know how much a betamax was in todays money ????? lol
just to back track i suppose i could have 1 blueray disk a week instead of 5 £3 ones im currently buying up.

A friend has a BDPS300. It is very slow to load, some titles take nearly 5 minutes.

when you have a tv that is larger than 46 inch there is a point. blu-ray isn't just sony you know.

also blu-ray will never get rid of piracy since so long as an image can be projected onto a screen it can be copied.

don't hate sony.

note: i didn't vote this post hot

How odd that you should suggest Sony (or whoever) shoudn't attempt to protect their copyright? The same argument could have been made in the transition from the adequate VHS system to the better quality DVD one. That was driven in part by the copyright protection that was built in (for all of 5 minutes). so was the move to CD. After all, it is one of the best ways to sell all that new tech to the media companies,

Reason for it being there? You answered your own question, DVD has 'fine' quality, Blu-Ray has 'better' quality. I assume that in your world we would still be driving horse drawn carts as they were a 'fine' form of transportation?;-) Thing to remember, as stated above - sooner or later the players will be cheap as will the media and by then we'll all be cracking the encryption and copying them on our PC like with DVD. I'll just wait until nearer that time personally.

Progress eh? Who needs it?

Voted hot. PS3 is ugly and anyone with sense will have a 360 anyway. Now people can afford to play bluray without having to buy a **** console.

i actually like the fact that you have no time display, as then you dont know when movie is about to end :) as i cant help but keep looking at the timer on my dvd player.

This isn't about a games console it's about a film player but if you want to compare then -

The thing is people will always go for separates than all in 1 systems.
All in One systems i .e PS3 usually have cheaper parts and cause more noise(fans, power supply size etc) and interference from the other parts that also are in there, they are also far more unattractive in the looks dept especially in the front room the PS3 is no showcase. (I hide mine)....

The same thing applies to stereos people will always go for separates over the cheaper midi systems for the same reasons as above.
Basically if you really want Blu Ray and something that looks good in your front room you will probable go for a separate unit such as the One posted here.

your comment is valid but not always so. the ps3 is generally recognised as a very good blu-ray player - in fact one of the best.

just because something is a games machine doesn't make it a poor music/video system. just check the links on this:

i don't know much about sound but this was the latest sound improvement from sony in the 2.3 firmware upgrade

"Today, SCEA announced that the latest PS3 update, 2.30, would bring the ability to decode DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio tracks, that is to say, Blu-ray audio at variable bit rates up to 24.5Mbps, and 7.1 streaming of 96K/24-bit tracks. Does this make PS3 the best Blu-ray player ever? If you've got a receiver that can take an uncompressed audio stream of that magnitude via HDMI, then we think it does. UPDATE: To be clear, this decodes the DTS formats—plus Dolby's formats, including Dolby TrueHD—and outputs all channels via HDMI to a receiver that can take a 5.1 or 7.1 PCM stream. It won't do 5.1 or 7.1 analog output. Also, as some of you have noted, it does NOT bitstream the DTS or Dolby data to a decoder inside a newer decoder-equipped receiver."

Voted cold.
Do not buy this player - Get a PS3 - It's fully upgradable so it can keep apace with any developments in Blu Ray. It will play divx/avi files, store your mp3's and play games. Stick a larger HDD and you've got a media centre

It's also a great Blu Ray player and a bargain at the price...

...now if only it could turned into a multi-region dvd and Blu-Ray player...
#35
To qualify for the 4 free discs you will need to register the machine with Sony using the registration disc provided with your purchase

yer

If the ps3 was like £200 and region free dvd and region free blu ray i would buy it solely for that
but it wont ever be
banned#37
Yeah it will! I reckon it will drop to £250 in Septemebr and someone like datel is bound to release region free software eventually.
#38
Personally I agree with those people who say the PS3 is better. However, this is a really good price for a blu ray player for those people who are not overly concerned with the online special features that come with SOME blu ray discs. If you were to sell the blu rays that come with the player you would make about £50-60 and you could use that money to buy whatever you like. Whilst this player does take a while to load on some films the picture and sound quality is superb.
#39
I mean really i could chuck my dvd player and freeview recorder and just get a ps3 with that play tv thing - id prefer the ps3 as a media hub as its more that than a games console but im not paying more than £200
