Good spec player and a "Great" brand name.....you just can't beat Sony! They have them in the Newcastle store but not sure about the rest of the UK shops:

"This diminutive player delivers superb picture and sound represents incredible value for money."

It might be small and cute but the Sony BDP-S350 pulls no punches when it comes to delivering first-rate picture and sound quality. The BDPS350 scores over its predecessors in offering Profile 2.0 compatibility. This can be obtained by using the built-in Ethernet port - another feature that wasn't always standard on earlier players.

As you'd expect from a new generation Blu-ray player, the BDPS350 has wide ranging compatibility - including most types of DVD discs. The v1.3 HDMI socket allows the new Sony Blu-ray to output 7.1 Channel HD audio to a suitable home cinema receiver. If you bought an early Blu-ray or HD-DVD player you'll also be pleased to hear that Sony has worked hard on start up times. It now takes just six seconds to begin enjoying your disc - previous machines would leave you enough time to make a coffee! Also improved is the graphic interface system. The new XcrossMediaBar will be familiar to Play Station 3 owners and makes for an intuitive, functional interface.

As with other BD players, the BDP-S300 is also compatible with standard DVD discs. Combined with the 1080p upsampling, this allows you to view your existing DVDs at a level of resolution higher than ever before.

Which ever way you look at it, the Sony BDP-S350 is one impressive machine. Blu-ray has come of age!

I'd beg to differ on that one. The Sony brand's been going downhill for years. I reckon other companies have surpassed Sony for price and quality in the past decade or so.

However, this player is a fantastic piece of kit, so heat added! :)

i have this player also, bought it for £159 recently. It is a nice player.

I saw this offer 3 months back at richersounds - i toddled off to richersounds, they pointed to the advert which says last few... i was informed that they had all now been sold even though they were still advertising them instore and on their web site, but you can buy the same model that was multi region for £35 more - was a total con !

However - currys price match as long as the store is within 10 miles, so take the advert to them and they will give you one of their players for this price.

Does this player have any DLNA facility.
Looking for something that does and can play Flac audio files from a server.

DOes it use SOny's XMB media player?

Do currys do multi region?

Good point Snowball.....happened to me on a DVD player a few year back from them. Didn't happen in this case with the Blu Ray player though. I rang and checked they had stock first. Maybe an idea for others to do if you are interested.

richer sounds do two different versions of the this model
Region 2 (dvd+blu ray) for £149.99
Mulitiregion (dvd) region 2 (blu ray) 159.99
i recently got the multiregion version for £125 from them with £10 discount for a voucher in last month's what hi-fi and £25 voucher by mr julian richer himself for bad cust srvc in the plymouth store by a sales rep.
can't fault their cust srvcs normally but had a really patronizing sale rep one day and i feedback, a few weeks later the store manager called me and gave me a Sony DG820 amp for £199! and then another week got a letter from mr julian richer with personal apology and £25 extra vouchers,

If you have a suitable One for All remote, you can make this player [and the 550 which has basically the same internals] multiregion for dvd yourself :)

I was just about to post that!

This worked for me, don't know about other One for All remotes.
Full procedure for a 7562 oneforall remote is as follows:

1. Press DVD
2. Hold the magic button until the DVD button flashes twice.
3. Press 0533

4. Hold the magic button until it flashes twice.
5. Press 994
6. Press Magic Key (don't hold)
7. Press 189 (if your oneforall remote uses 4 digit or 3 digit codes, use less leading zeros)
8. Press 1 ( this sets it to key 1 - it flashes twice )

9. Hold the magic button until it flashes twice.
10. Press 994
11. Press Magic Key (don't hold)
12. Press 255
13. Press 2 ( this sets it to key 2 - it flashes twice )

14. Hold the magic button until it flashes twice.
15. Press 994
16. Press Magic Key (don't hold)
17. Press 095
18. Press 3 ( this sets it to key 3 - it flashes twice )

19. Hold the magic button until it flashes twice.
20. Press 994
21. Press Magic Key (don't hold)
22. Press 221
23. Press 4 ( this sets it to key 4 - it flashes twice )

24. Hold the magic button until it flashes twice.
25. Press 994
26. Press Magic Key (don't hold)
27. Press 079
28. Press 5 ( this sets it to key 5 - it flashes twice )

The remote is now programmed and ready to use, to make the BDP-S350 region free:

1. Use the remote that came with the player to bring the player out of standby, make sure there isn't a disc in it.
2. Press 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 on the oneforall remote. The 24p light will start flashing
3. Put the player back into standby with the Sony remote
4. Next time you turn on the player it will be region free for DVD playback

I've unlocked mine that way and it works fine. I've got the remote if anyone wants to buy it?
