I would wait off a while yet as at this rate they will be selling them for £19.99 by Easter.

If the S370 comes out by then, possibly!

If you have multi region DVD's it may be worth checking out this version of the S360 at Richer Sounds for £20 more.

I'm not sure whether they will come down by much more than this though, certainly not over the short term! I'm more than happy with the quality of my Pioneer HDMI upscaler and have been in no hurry to buy in to Blu-ray, but I gotta be honest and say I am sorely tempted with this deal.

Good spot OP - Heat added

FYI You don't need topay for multiregion - hack simple and available online. Hot deal. I have one - great player

Its extra content on the disc accessed via the internet on your player.

The reason they are going this cheap is the launch of 3d blu ray players at ces in the usa.they might as well sell them at this price at to get rid of old stock and stock up on 3d blu ray players and 3d hd tvs coming out this year.
Any way this is really a good deal getting one for the bedroom thanks:thumbsup:

3D Blu-ray plays will take a while to make it to affordable prices for joe bloggs, certainly wont happen this year.

I imagine sony have a new range coming out and also they'll be trying to seed the market.
#16
this should be as hot as the play deal as the deal doesnt come with a free film anymore

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! :w00t: I've just bought an HD TV and it's gonna be history in a few months??? Will we all be sitting in our living rooms with our NHS
3D glasses on and TV dinners on our laps while watching endless 'extras' on BluRay????????? :w00t:

Does anyone know if this player will work with an analogue 5.1 speaker set?

I have a Panasonic DVD surround sound and I want to be able to hook up the speakers from that to a blu-ray player. As far as im aware, all the blu-ray players hook up either through the HDMI or through an optical cable.
#20
The BDP-S360 does not have the separate speaker terminals. You will need to pass the audio onto an AV receiver / decoder. Does your Panasonic allow input into it ?
#21
Because of streaming media and the price of flash memory falling, bluray is technically dead and 3d is a life line for a couple of years.

You can buy an external 1TB hard drive for £60. I can see people taking these to blockbusters to 'top up' on movies. The technology is there to do that now but as the industry is all about ripping us consumers off and they can make more from selling region coded discs

The deal is HOT as it is a fair price the machine as things stand now.

Yes you can buy players with analogue outputs I use the Sony BDP S550. The new S560 adds wireless to the S360 spec so you need the S760 or equivalent from another manufacturer.

Totally agree with the above statement, in terms of technology becoming cheaper. Nintendo were going to release their idea a few years back where you would take your "cart" to Blockbuster and top it up with a new game. I am sure you will see in the not to distant future some form of system where you just take your pen drive and download the latest movie or game?...Less packaging etc then claim its all in aid of the environment.

The deal is HOT as it is a fair price the machine as things stand now.

Although I agree that streaming is the way we're going, I think to say that bluray is technically dead is a bit previous. I suspect bluray will become the major film format and will remain so for at least 5 years. Yes there are lots of people who'll be happy to stream movies to watch on their tv, but the vast majority of people still see the tv and pc as completely seperate devices and so until an affordable set-top box capable of simple streaming becomes available and commonplace I can't see it replacing dvd/blu-ray. Also, most people are not too fussed about having the latest technology all the time, so people may upgrade their dvd players to blu-ray this year, but then they'll not want to upgrade again for another 5 years or so unless they really have to.

Just look at cd's - I know sales are nowhere near what they were before mp3's, but they are still sold everywhere because a lot of people like to own something physical and the first ipod was released over 8 years ago.

As for the deal, very tempted... hot!

You can use other programmable remotes too.

Also PDAs / Smartphones which have an IR transmitter.
I managed to make my BDPS360 MR using an old XDA II PDA, a trial copy of Noviiremote and a file containing the hex codes which I found on the net.

Heard of the PSPgo?
People don't want a download only machine. People want to have a physical media option as well, hence DVD's & Blu-Ray's will always be around for us old fossils (ie the mass market)

Nintendo made such a machine yonks ago - 20 years or so in fact. It was called the Famicom Disk System. Did it take off? Nope, otherwise things would be very different now.

As for streaming - personally I have no interest in such things (and no I'm not an old fossil!) - my internet connection is so poor that some nights I can barely surf the web, let alone watch iplayer, or an HD film. Similarly, to download one and store it somewhere would also take ages as files are 4gb at least are they not? And anyway, say I go to blockbuster with my 1tb £60 hard drive, what file format is going to be the standard? What about DRM? What happens if, God forbid, the drive dies with all my films on it?

You'll probably find that the 1TB hard drive is not flash based...

Hi

We have a Sony DAV DZ"^) Surround sound kit which came with a Sony DVD Player as part fo the package - does anybody know whether I could switch to this Blu Ray Player and still benefit from the surround sound system - and if so how do I do it - sorry just not a techi but quite fancy upgrading to Blu Ray......

The DVD multiregion hack is the same as the BDP-S350 apparently. You need a programmable remote to make a macro as follows (I used my Pronto NG):

The blue 24fps LED on the front of the player will start flashing if you did it correctly.

If it has a optical or coax input you will be able to use this for surround sound.

edit just checked Sony DAV DZ260 has optical and coax audio in so all you will need is the appropriate cable

Nice.

Hey you guys that know something about BD players!

I barely know anything, so can you tell me if this is the deal to go for for my first BD player?

I've seen ones for as low as £40, but I suppose they're not that good. Is this the best value one I could get?

and dont forget there are FOUR different 3d formats competing with each other-will never become mass market until one format emerges as the winner-who on earth will fork out for 3d technology and then find there is no media for it? 3d will be insanely expensive at launch-until everyone agrees a single format it is doomed to fail.

Seems like a bargain

If you like to play xvid stuff or mkv or want to stick a hd in it like most blu ray player out there then this will not do it

There are better ones out there for £150, as it all come down to what you want this player for
