this is great value - excellent player

I'm sure there was a deal for this yesterday with the new 'Alice in Wonderland' bluray/DVD/digital triple play media multi-pack as a 'freebie.'

Sorry wasn't on Amazon, but play.com (remember quidco) at £129 now, so the film pack ain't really worth the £20 difference. Here's the url though BDP-S370 at play.com if you were considering it for the kids anyway

Under the blu-ray add the amazon basics HDMI which is £4.99 then add any blu-ray, the discount is added automatically at checkout...

Onkyo till I die!!!!
#12
Can this access the mkv's that are on my Popcorn-hour across my LAN???

If so, its a steal.
#13
Have they changed the deal, been eyeing this player up for a while, but i no longer see the free hdmi or blu ray deal
#14
Onkyo...? Does he play for Japan?
#15
I got this from the sony shop for £119 after trading my old VHS player and thought that was a good deal then, so £99 is a steal!

I use it everday for the TV catchup services and the lovefilm (although limited) is a excellent service for £9 a month....in fact think I've only used the blu-ray function once :-D I would be happy to pay £99 for all the extra functionality of this player never mind the blu-ray play back (which is awesome)

Yes but they never ever have any in stock, I was trying to get one (with sony trade in) for 6 weeks and they never had any, they kept trying to sell me a multi-region one for £30 more.

I bought one from Play for £99.99 last week and a all-for-one remote from argos to make it multi-region for about £7.

It also says at the bottom of the page that they have limited region 2 available (ie. this means None available), the last time I phoned for one the guy laughed and said you will never get this blu ray for £109 were giving them away at £139.99, how wrong he was 2 hours later Id ordered for £99.99!

Will this conect to my nas and play back video files such as isos etc.

I ordered this blu ray player last friday at this price , but there was no mention of a free HDMI lead or the £5 off a blu ray ? So I have just looked on the site and you can now get 10% off this price by using the code SONY1OJU , dont know if you can combine the offers though. Just phoned them up and they have refunded me the 10% (£9.99) so you can now get it for £90!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought one of these a month or so ago and am delighted with it but can anyone tell me how to use the BD-Live on disks that have it? I've tried sticking a memory stick in the front USB but I've yet to access the features. The stick works because a friend watched a program from it.
#25
Can the rear usb port be used for media or is it there just for the WiFi dongle?

#30
Fantastic player, mine arrived yesterday! Can be made region-free for regular DVD's with a Harmony remote control.
#31

Not true, I have my seagate portable hard drive in the back and use the front for flash drives. You can use both USB ports for media but only the rear usb port for the Wifi dongle.

To the OP or anyone else that owns one of these:

As others have asked can you please tell us if this supports H.264 encoded .mkv files via the USB or copied to discs?

If so, I can return the Panasonic sc-bt200eb ( http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/708215/panasonic-sc-bt200eb-blu-ray-5-1-ho? ) I picked for £190 from PC World yesterday. I'd rather have native .mkv support than the Viera link with my Panasonic TV.

Looked through the specs for the Sony and it only mentions that it supports DivxHD and MPEG4 AAC but no mention of H.264.

The only reason we ask is because the OP said he can get rid of his WD Media player which does support .mkv files.

To answer my own question; Yes it Does support mkv's

Found this review by David Powell on Amazon;

"MKV Support Update:
-------------------
The MKV support is a bit patchy. If a MKV contains AVC/H.264 video with a profile "High @ Level 5.1" then the video will not play and you'll be shown an on screen message saying "file corrupt or unsupported". This is true of many hardware MKV players and as such most new MKVs are created at "High @ level 3.1" or "High @ level 4.1" now days.

The strange thing is that the profile level is a suggestion, rather than an absolute, so if you can change the profile from Level 5.1 to Level 4.1 then most media files play fine. I used a tool called tsMuxeR to convert (not transcode) from a MKV (Level 5.1) to a M2TS (Level 4.1), which took around 8 seconds, and the resulting file played fine on the BDP-S370. This should work on the majority of files, however you may have to end up re-encoding some files which takes an age."
