Sony Blu-ray goes 3D with the introduction of the Sony BDPS470.

Featuring the latest type of HDMI socket, the BDPS470 is compatible with 3D TVs, making it the perfect partner for your 3D TV. But it doesn't end with 3D compatibility. In terms of design, features and functionality, Sony has made other great improvements to their latest Blu-ray masterpiece. New to the BDPS470 is the option of connecting to the Internet wirelessly or via the traditional Ethernet cable. Simply add a wireless dongle and your BDPS470 can integrate with your home network and "talk" to other components in the DLNA enabled loop. In conjunction with this there's full access to the BBC iPlayer and BRAVIA Internet Video for access to online video content such as YouTube. In short, there's much more you can do with a budget Blu-ray player than just playing Blu-rays and DVDs these days!

Got an iPhone or iPod Touch? Then you can take control of the BDPS470 with a special App and wireless dongle. Use the touch screen to view disc information or find YouTube video. Find out more about your Blu-ray discs by searching the Entertainment Database Browser using Gracenote technology.

For all the improvements in functionality, don't forget that the BDP-S470 is Blu-ray player - and a great one at that! Playback quality of all formats is every bit as good as you'd expect from a Sony with Sony's Precision Drive technology lending a hand to correct scratched or warped discs. As ever, the full 1080p output and HDMI interface give stunning levels of clarity and digital HD surround sound for an unparalleled cinema experience.

Thanks to Sony's Xross Media Bar, using the BDP-S470 is easy. With a boot up time of just 3 seconds and a 2 seconds tray eject, it's also quicker than ever loading up a film. BRAVIA Sync means that if you already have a Sony TV you can link to that for remote control integration.

With DNLA and 3D TV compatibility, the Sony BDPS470 is all set for the best in entertainment both now and in the future.

Strange you say that as the KDL-46NX713 can upscale to 3D...
#12
3D upscaling is on most 3D bluray players already, its not upscaling anyway its converting 2D blurays to 3D, most 3D tv's do it for you anyway.

It has been listed in Richer Sounds catalouge for £119.95 since 21st May and its still the same price in the current catalogue. However the web price is on special for £109.99. You won't get another £10 off on that using the VIP voucher as this is a web deal aready. I had tried at one of their store and this was what they said to me. I paid £109.99 and v happy with this machine . Not tried 3D yet so can't comment.Still vote hot

I think you're mistaken. The VIP email I received said the in-store VIP price is valid from 16th-22nd June and all we need to do is state that the VIP price is £99.99 and that's it.

You can watch videos @ iplayer and Youtube, but I think that's about it.

Very good player.
Replaced my BDP-S350 while Sony was doing VAT refund promo - smaller, quieter, doesn't run hot and 3D blu-ray playback works well.

DLNA works too however I've noticed that quality of it (divx/xvid) is better through PS3 (both audio and sound). No problems with mkv.
Both are connected directly to the TV with same model of HDMI cable, PS3 audio goes through coax to the AV while 470 gets optical - same cable model as Sky so connections are not causing it.

It's a minor issue though, overall I'm happy with it.

Be aware that the price is £99 and despite the rubish they tell you in the shop to get away to honour the Vip voucher, they are obbliged to honour the price that is stated in the web+plus any discounts that you are allowed, the VIP voucher in this case. The price in the web is not a web price as you cannot in reality buy from the web and therefore that is the store price and not the rubish they tell us in the stores. I had to complain to the customer service and they admitted that I am right even so they try to turn things round, therefore if you get in to a dispute when you will be in the shop, tell them that you will report it to the athorities or trading standards. I would also call the customer service and get a confirmation before entering in a nasty dispute with the sometime rude staff at Richersound. In my country, for this illegal way of them doing this type of things the police can also be involved and could lead in very high fines as that is considered a cheat, it is after all.
good luck.

been in a bad dispute recently in a store as my item went down by £10 the day after the purchase and therefore I wanted my £10 back because of their policy and despite the fact that the web price, which is after all EXCLUSIVE FOR STORE ONLY, they tryed to argue that then I should have not used the vip voucher. Please do keep complaining to customer service. They should make clear in the web what are the rules before wasting our time.

Anyone who buys 3D is a mug. Biggest gimmick ever. The 2D widescreen format of film is its correct frame and all of the classics were tailored to it.

Would the Godfather or Citizen Kane have been any better in 3D? Don't think so.

Does anyone know if it supports DLNA PlayTo? My PS3 streams MP3 and videos from my NAS drive but doesnt support playto. I'd like to use my tablet or phone to act as the remote.

Man, you've been ripped apart on every single deal you posted.

(slow day at work today)

By the way Bravia video has Youtube, Iplayer and Lovefilm as well as some pretty useless channels. The DLNA streaming is fantatsic on these as is the SACD playback. Note: The new models also have USB NTFS on them and this doesnt if you do care about that (DLNA doesnt always work well with TrueHD or DTS Master soundtracks.

Hehe - you really think 16:9 is the correct cinema format? Would Citizen Cane have been better in colour? If not why not make all films in black and white still? How about Nosferatu? I liked that, anyone who buys "talkie" pictures is a mug. Second biggest gimmick ever (after 3d).

I love people who are impressed with the fact they have a big screen TV and have seen Citizen Cane and all of a sudden become a film critic. I suppose you're into foreign film too enough to buy the DVD of Amelie? Endless fun.

Anyone who judges everyone else based on his\her opinion is...

Don't like something? Think is a gimmick? Fine, don't buy it.

There are some who think otherwise, buy 3D and are happy with it, no reason to stick your "all knowing" opinion on them.

Okay, then let's go with your logic. How about smellovision? How about we link up our TVs to ACs/heaters so we can experience hot and cold? How about tactile TV where you can use the sense of touch?

3D is a gimmick. Most people know it. Stupid people don't. The medium of film has fully matured, at least as far as format goes: 2D, widescreen. Tried and tested. Perfect for framing moving images. 3D ruins suspension of disbelief, it gives people headaches, and it diminishes picture quality.

Hi guys,

I read your comments on this thread and wanted to take the opportunity to clarify as some of the comments made I feel are unfair and inaccurate!

The £10 voucher is only available against our in store prices and not in conjunction with any other offers, such as the VIP deal we currently have on the BDPS470 at £99.95 (the full conditions can be found on the voucher itself).

However, if any customers have experienced problems with their local store I'd be most interested to know the details, so if you can contact me via private message then I will resolve any issues for you.

Many Thanks

Good for you, and kudos to Richer Sounds for being a retailer bold enough to respond directly on these forums - Thats a first for me anyway!

I have always found Richer Sounds to be very good - Not always the cheapest (sadly you recently lost a sale on a LCD TV for my Mum when I found it £70 cheaper on the net, which on a £300 TV is quite a saving), but the staff arent pushy and are always pleasant - in my experience at least.

Clearly others have their own perceptions, but credit due for responding on here! ;)
