#3

The actual box says SATA internal but their price label says external... but am sure its internal.

It looks like this, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-BDU-X10S-Blu-ray-Disc-Internal/dp/B00149GM1W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1261959401&sr=1-1, so I think it might be internal.
#7
be good if it was external
#8
Any chance of a SKU code? Can't make it out on the label..... :(
#9
It's internal, there is proper stock in places too - was gonna grab one but it's ONLY a reader. I dont want to burn Blu-Ray's, but it doesnt burn CD's or DVD's :(

no stock!! cold

This is internal SATA. I bought one at £39.97 for a HTPC project but was too big for the box. So I put it on ebay and it went for over £40 :)
#15
I'll wait til they're £20...
#16
For all those that are wondering about the SKU, I'm pretty sure it's the BDU-X10S internal SATA Blu-Ray ROM Drive, as I bought one a few months back myself and it has the exact same box.
#17
is it profile 1.1 or 2.0?

That will depend on the software I think as the drive just reads the disc.

its the firmware, hopefully should be upgradeable

This drive seems to come with CyberLink Power DVD 7.3 which was later updated to support Profile 2.0. As it's an OEM version I'm not sure if it also supports 2.0 but there are updates at Cyberlink for oem versions.
There is a firmware update at Sony; not sure if that relates to BD 2.0 at all! Anybody?
#22
BD2.0 is a software thing. Not a problem for pc's or MAcs.

I know - but I dont need a Blu-Ray drive and dont like the idea of spending £40 on a drive thats useless 90% of the time :(
#24
I presume I don't need a fancy graphics card to go with this?

Will the picture quality still be the same through a VGA connection?
#25
Techie question- I have a laptop with hdmi port- if I buy an external Blu Ray drive does it use the hdmi or USB port to connect to my laptop? If the USB if I connect my laptop to my High Def TV using the laptops HDMI then will my laptop be tranmitting blu-ray high def to my TV?
#26
bd-rom connects to usb and hdmi to the tv, if the laptop and drivers support HDCP then yes it will

So external player connects to laptop using usb, then you play on laptop using media player and use your tv as a screen via hdmi/vga/dvi, but this is an internal player not external and wont fit in laptop!

To much messing about for me... I'm out !
#29
Its internal and been this price instore for at least a month. :)

Anything with .97 in PCWorld is clearance stock so most stores will only have 1 or 2, not a bad price shame its only a reader tho
#31
What read speed?
#32
It cant write dvd / cds so thats a bummer, might be a easy route for someone into the world of blue-ray especially as it comes with Power DVD to support blueray

even though I have a bd reader in my pc I would recommend a stand alone blue ray device over a internal pc one!

Yeah, it's clearance so on its way out. Currys has the exact same policy (part of DSGi so i suppose that was obvious).

.98 means it's about to go clearance.

Did you speak to the national customer service centre? If so they will have all their clearence SKUs down to 0, but this is usually not the case in store - the store systems will show how many each store really have of the item, but we need the SKU (on the receipt) to check....

due to telboy post above, I retract this post :D,
