Good price for a Sony 37", thought it was 1080p for a second and was reaching for my credit card. With the 5% discount, isn't the price BEFORE Quidco £408.49 delivered and not £408.54? Sorry, my friends swear (literally) by my pedantic nature...

Great price, great find!

ordered thanks

was waiting for the 40" to come down in a deal, but for £392 (with Quidco) the 37" one is just difficult to resist; especially that it'll be used in the bedroom as 2nd tv.

very tempted for the dosh... 120 less than for the toshiba rv 37 inch ive been considering

sony 37" don't usually have sony (s-pva) panels usually sourced from third party - avforums best bet to check
#8
did read that about 37 panels but not putting me off, just wish the 40 inch was on sale

Is it 0.5% quidco for sales of electrical gear at quidco?

Hot deal by the way for said item - muppets in my local Sony Centre expect £650 smackers for this (albeit they give 5 year warranty).

Wow there is also a 46" Samsung LCD for £549.99 less the discounts, this is so tempting!!!

I picked up one of these in Makro a couple of weeks ago for £349 which came to £403 including the VAT. Very pleased with the TV. NIce sharp and contrasty picture using the default settings and the blacks are very black, no greys where the blacks should be. Certainly a good TV for the money with plenty of inputs for plugging stuff in. I only use mine to view freeview through an aerial so the 37" is about as big as you should go and the 768 resolution is better suited to this as it only needs to upscale to 768 and not 1080 so the picture degrades less. I also run a Nintendo Wii through a HD cable and it looks great.

Bought this from Play last week. Cost £449 but gutted I didn't wait and save another £40. Only set it up on Friday too otherwise I would have sent it back.

So did I but I purchased one anyway, bought it from Digital direct for 499 with 3 years warrenty.
The tv is excellent value for money, the standard def pictures are extreamly good for an lcd, about as clear as my fully run in panny PX80, and way better than my 37inch panny LCD (which is also 720p) HD is nice too, and also very nice with an upscaling dvd player.
The speakers on the TV are excellent, non of the tinny sound you get on samsungs, proper loud and base, very clear too. I cannot recommend this tv enough, yes its 720p but so what, still an excellent picture and a fraction of a 1080p tv's price.
I personally use it for SD tv and my Xbox, perfect for that.
For a 2nd tv, buy this rather than a cheap 1080p tv, this will be much better in every area.

Thanks for your advice, think I'm going to go ahead with this bearing in mind I have 2 small children and it might be replace in 3-4 years anyway.

What kind of warranty do you get with PLAY?
#16
now ordered with a nice alphason oak stand for around 530 all in, well chuffed.

It seems a good price but I for one will not purchase any expensive items from Play.com having had problems with them when I tried to return a faulty Xbox game. They have a policy of completely disowning you 30 days after purchase, so if your TV or whatever expensive item develops a fault after a few weeks, Plays philosophy is 'tough, speak to the manufacturer'. This is against UK consumer laws and the sale of goods act but they then just trot out the excuse that they are Jersey based and SOGA does not apply.

Play are fine for small items such as DVD's and books etc, but I would rather play a few quid more for the expensive stuff and have some peace of mind.

Caveat Emptor (or something like that)

Yeah thats what I was worried about. I would NEVER buy a tv that didnt have some kind of back up in the form of a gaurentee. What if the TV packs up in a years time? The manufacturer wouldnt cover you and PLAY would obviously laugh you away. Much better going with someone like richer sounds
#19
you would get a better customer service from samsung or sony for that matter (if you had any issues)
so see no reason to hold off for this reason

Nice price.

On the lookout for an LCD, Remeber a few months ago a post regarding big companies price fixing and prices would be slashed on all LCDs. Any news on this?????????

Same here:x although I used the RAC discount and paid 428.49. For all the people talking about the panel, this uses MVA developed by AUO which from my research is still better than a lot of panels out there. As for the warranty you are covered by Sony for 1 year by either sending off the papers with the tv or registering with the supplied disc. Just found this link aswell which most likely is the panel it uses :- http://auo.com/auoDEV/products.php?sec=lcdTV&func=info&product_id=60&items_id=8
