Connect to your favourite technologies
With its USB Media Player, you can connect a wide range of USB devices straight to your BRAVIA TV. From mp3 players to cameras, laptops to camcorders - even content from your USB memory stick, just plug in to enjoy your favourite multimedia files on screen. You can stream movies, music and photos to your BRAVIA from compatible devices, such as your laptop, mobile phone or music player, no matter where in the home they're located, thanks to DLNA technology. Enhance your BRAVIA experience by connecting other HD products such as a Blu-ray Disc™ player or PlayStation®3 thanks to four High Definition Multimedia Interface™ (HDMI™) inputs. These connections are specifically designed to carry high quality digital video and audio content. BRAVIA Sync lets you control other Sony devices you've connected using your BRAVIA TV remote control.

Access all your media, simply
Thanks to the XrossMediaBar™ menu interface, inspired by the PLAYSTATION®3, it's now easier then ever to browse the TV functions, change channels and access a world of home entertainment content. Flip between movies, games, music and pictures, without hassle, from one simple graphical interface.

Experience style and substance
The TV's sleek 40" (101.6cm) screen not only enhances the viewing experience but looks stunning even when the picture is off. Switch it to Picture Frame mode and you can turn your BRAVIA into a work of art by displaying pre-installed images or your own photos and make great use of your wall space even when you're not watching TV. To allow you to enjoy the perfect fusion of image and sound, the speakers are hidden in the TV design and positioned for ideal sound elevation.

Enjoy authentic cinematic experiences
Cinema Mode is a new picture setting developed in collaboration between BRAVIA and Sony Pictures Entertainment. It allows films to be viewed as close to the original director's cut as possible. Cinema Mode precisely reproduces details such as natural skin tone, lighting, colour and contrast. In 24p True Cinema mode films can be watched as the director intended for the big screen - at 24 frames per second. Standard TVs use 25 frames a second which means they play back 'faster' than they do in the cinema.

Clearer, more life-like colours
Reds and greens are notoriously difficult to reproduce on an LCD screen. Live Colour intelligently boosts these colours making sure the images you see on your BRAVIA TV are bright, vibrant and realistic. Connect a compatible camera or camcorder and the TV will automatically switch to optimum settings for displaying photos and reproduce their full, realistic texture and colour.

Nice price for this. Hot.
#2
Rubbish price, it's available from Tesco at £599 with the same VAT rebate deal making it a lot less than this M&S offer.

Not sure the VAT offer will apply; the Sony T&Cs state that purchases that form a bundle or package are excluded.
#5
Showing as £699.00 n web site confused:|

Great price.

£598 at Amazon, without the Blu Ray Player. Hot!
#7
Available for £509.77 from Amazon via the VAT back but with out the 3 yr warranty.
#8
Link takes you to screen where its priced at £699 , how do you get it for £599 ??
#9
The TV can be found on John Lewis for £509.79 after the VAT back with a 5 year warranty. :)

Out of stock at John Lewis ...Tesco it is i reckon with 10 quid worth of clubcard points as well !

You need to look at the model numbers. KDL40ex503U can have the VAT refund applied, but the model advertised is the KDL40ex503 which isn't listed at the bottom of the VAT form. The models may be the same TV with the U added on for European markets, but you need to read the terms closely. Tesco is 503, Amazon is 503U. M&S is 503 so wouldn't qualify.

So where's the Blu-ray player on the tesco link then numpty?

Are you sure John Lewis and Tescos do the Sony VAT offer?
There's no mention of them at all on the Sony site
http://www.sony.co.uk/hub/1237479399273

The VAT deal is not as good as the earlier trade in deal.

Some Sony Centres were doing this for £549 with 5 year guarantee, stand,
Bluray player as long as you give them a crap old telly

Having said that, you had to haggle for the offer above. it wasn;'t advertised
#17
sorry, forgot to add that if you already have a bluray player then this deal is hot!

I understand that this just has to be one of the products in the Sony Vat back scheme.

If you look at the link in my previous post, there is calculator within the John Lewis site that calculates the VAT saved.
#19
Lets start again the price is 699. You need to add the Blu ray player which is also on the same link. Also on the same link there is the form to claim back the VAT from sony. (or you can use the electronic link I listed in my original post)

Giving the final price (594)

It is eligible (it is under the M&S section for the Sony cash back offer) it has links to the offer on that very same M&S page which lists the TV details.

Much better deal than Tescos (no 5 year warranty and no Blu Ray)

Marks and Spencers warranty is far better than John Lewis one, which does not come with a £150 blu ray player. Also the John Lewis TV has never been in stock, while VAT offer has been on.

Just click on the link (the claim back details, 5 year warranty, free blu ray drive are all on a single page)

Just dont expect to be gaming on it.

Why?
#23
Its input lag is 60ms which is not great for those that like gaming let alone hardcore gamers.

What a nightmare it is choosing a TV these days. We part with alot of cash and have to consider so many issues: pixellation, ghosting, back-light bleed, can't be used in a light room, panel lotteries, input lag, poor sound. It goes on and on..............:(

I have this tv and don't have a problem with the lag at all. I read about it before I purchased it but it's never been a problem for me. COD, FIFA, Red dead redemption, all been fine on it. Only grumble I have is that I bought it before the VAT back scheme!!
#25
Does this play movies from the USB on the TV?

Read the write up at the top of the screen. Don't be lazy and expect everyone to do the work for you
#27
I noticed that is plays content from USB's but some of these things can restrict playback due to filesize. A friend of mine has this TV and he can't seem to play them back from the USB.

I do read not about being lazy. I wanted to know if MOVIES from the USB could be played not just some small video file or picture.
#28
Yes it can-

Connect to your favourite technologies
With its USB Media Player, you can connect a wide range of USB devices straight to your BRAVIA TV. From mp3 players to cameras, laptops to camcorders - even content from your USB memory stick, just plug in to enjoy your favourite multimedia files on screen. You can stream movies, music and photos to your BRAVIA from compatible devices, such as your laptop, mobile phone or music player, no matter where in the home they're located, thanks to DLNA technology

It only reads FAT32 drives, so you're restricted to files under 4GB

Does anyone know what sony centres' return policy is? I got this telly with a free blu ray player and stand from the sony center deal for £599 and it was just delivered last fri-22/10. this is a better deal for me as i have almost £200 woth of M&s vouchers which will make this even cheaper for me!

Can anyone who has purchased this from M&S with the "free" blue ray player confirm if item covered by VAT cashback T&Cs?
Concerned by this:
"8. The Cashback is only available on products which have been supplied and distributed by Sony to
its authorised dealers/resellers within the UK and Republic of Ireland. Please check with your
dealer to ensure your product is eligible and that the retailer is an authorised dealer/reseller before
purchasing to avoid disappointment. Purchases from tax-free retailers (e.g. at airports) are
excluded from the Promotion. Purchases which form part of a package or bundle are also excluded
from the Promotion
."

I know the current M&S price is sligly higher than what it was before (£594 vs £637 after cashback)
