My first post, so hope ok.

This highly rated Sony TV is the Deal of the Day on M&S. It's listed at £649 for today only, but M&S are also keeping VAT on electricals at 15% for a couple of weeks, so when you get to checkout, the VAT is reduced, bringing the price down to £634.11. Take into account 5% Quidco cashback, and you are just breaking £600 which is great when you take into account the 5 yr warranty M&S offer. This TV is £649 on Amazon, without the extra warranty.

The full detail of the TV is detailed on the link, so I haven't posted it here which I hope is ok.

very nice indeed

Hot!

Was going to buy one of the 37" s5500 lcds that are doing the rounds from various retailers around the £500 mark but after studying reviews I soon realized the v&w series made far more sense having the bravia 3 engine. The w series even more so for having 100hz video processing.

Thinking it was going to be well out of my price range I was just going to stick with my first generation plasma but then this cracking deal was spotted.

£699?

£50 is deducted when you check out, and also the VAT
#4
As much as I'd like to say it was Hot, I'm really not that impressed, the price has been hovering around the £649 band for some time now, what with new models coming out I'm hoping it'll drop even more...
thanks for posting though!

Aha! This does look like a great deal. Cheapest and 5 year warranty. Just wish I was in the market for one having jumped in and bought a 32 inch Sony 18 months ago!

i'm so tempted, but remember there were a couple of issues with this set,
1) clouding
2) input lag

but for the money it's a good set.

Great deal. Heat added :)

Does the money get taken off after you enter your credit card details?

Keep an eye on the Panasonic 42'' TX-P42G10 at MandS as well...

Out of stock right now but they seem to get a few in every few days for sale at £669 but once you remove VAT and go via QuidCo, you can get the price down to £620 which is superb for FreesatHD, free installation, free delivery and the free 5 year warranty.

I did the same!! .. but had to buy this 40" set when it was on offer at Argos, too good an offer to turn down. 32" is boxed up and sat in the garage until we move house (hopefully soon!) :-D

To those mulling this over, it's a fantastic set - yes new ones are coming out, however you won't get one of those for anywhere near this price PLUS you're getting 5 yr warranty on top

This is quite a good price when you factor in 5% Quidco also bringing the price closer to 600 sheets.

I was very tempted but have just seen some of the new Sony's with Freeview HD, Edge LED and one with wifi!

Just on the PS3 - Tekken, COD, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank etc and it's fantastic. It has a games mode but I leave it in General or Theatre (for the surround sound).

I reviewed it on amazon here

Once the new sets are released, which will be in a few months I think, they'll have flogged most of the older range to make way. Prices for the new sets will be ridiculous for at least the first 4 weeks, then prices will come down. After about 3 months they'll probably offer some kind of bundle.

As it's World Cup year, there should be a bit of competition for custom so with any luck there'll be a decent price war on tv's.

The one thing I would say is every year the prices keep coming down for the equivalent model so this time next year there will probably be another model we'll be talking about. I've got a Pioneer KRL-37V at the moment but had a 40X3000 and 40W3000 (like the 40W5500 this set had issues and was returned!) before that. They were both over £1,000 when I bought them. :-(

Might try a price match at my local Mains dealership, they might just honour it, plus it's local too and not have to wait for 2 weeks..

LMAO. I have to admit, the new sets do look promising. Not too sure about 3D yet but some of the other features look spot on.

The LED side works quite well but overall the 40W5500 is a much better set overall, Sharp have got a bit of homework to do.

I'd strongly recommend reading here

http://www.avforums.com/forums/lcd-led-lcd-televisions/807012-sony-bravia-kdl-32d3000-purple-vertical-line-faulty-38.html - to see about the 66 (count 'em) people who have a problem with their OLD model that the same fault has been found in this model. How Sony can claim to not be aware of any issues with this model is a complete cover up in my view.

before purchasing.

I bought a 40W5500 from argos at the end of oct through a thread on here and by the end of december it had packed up. Sony and Argos are a waste of space when it comes to meeting obligations under the sale of goods act and warranty. They force you down a complaint route when it is clearly a design issue. They suggest a repair is the only option available when consumer law states it is not.

Anyway the set is redundant because freeview HD is coming along so I recommend don't buy any TV until the new models come out.

Pointing people towards the 40W5500 is certainly recommended but not the 40D3000. The panels used in both sets are completely different as are the internals so there is no way to compare both of these sets. I have put up a number of posts regarding the 40W3000 and it was found that there were certain batch numbers that were faulty. There was more than one panel used for this set and could well be the case with the 40W5500 although I haven't read up on this set.

I don't know how far you've managed to get with your complaint but I'm sure if you have had the same fault as the others who have used avforums, then printing a copy of the thread for Sony/Argos might help. One thing I would suggest, if you are able to get this rectified to get a set from the likes of Marks & Spencer, John Lewis, Richer Sounds or a dedicated AV Retailer. At least if you have a problem, they would have some sort of knowledge regarding the items they sell and would offer you a much better level of support if something does go wrong.

I've got the 46W5500 which is the same but bigger screen - to address your comments in my experience:
1) My tv has a very minimal amount of clouding but it's barely noticeable, even though I like to watch it in low light settings. My dad just bought one of the fancy new super-thin Samsung LCDs (more expensive than this) and the clouding is worse than on mine. Frankly, I dont think you can be assured to be 100% clouding-free with any LCD tv. You need to go for a plasma for this, which has other issues
2) input lag is very significant in the standard Theatre mode but you simply need to press the "Scene" button and select "Game mode" when you turn on your console and it will go away. I play a lot on SF4 and MW2 online and have no lag issues whatsoever

I think it's a great deal for the price and a 5-year warranty.
