Sony Bravia 40" W4000 for £699.00, with free DVD Recorder and free 5yr warranty @ John Lewis

The Sony Bravia 32" W4000 was voted by what-hi-fi as the best TV of 2008. In the 40" category it was beaten only by the W4500 which boast a higher contrast and a 100hz.

I found the 40"W4000 on richer sounds for £699 but without the free warranty. The sony centre pricematched and threw in the free warranty. Then finally John Lewis offered the same price, the free warranty and a Sony 160GB HDD-DVD recorder.

When I went in finally to place the order, the had sold out on the 160gb hence upgraded to the 250gb DVD recorder for free. Oh and they gave me free delivery as well.

This is my first post, sorry if this deal has already been posted before. Can someone help me with an image, otherwise the direct link to the webpage should come up with the image. One more thing, online the tv is advertised at £870 without the free dvd recorder, whereas in store it is advertised as £849 with the free 160gb dvd recorder.

Wow good deal ...... nearly bought the same offer on Xmas eve from Tesco but no warranty. Can you advise which JL did this deal, copy of receipt would be magic to help persuade my local JL match it (they are strict on PM now).
Thanks

You don't need 100hz for gaming, you would need it for watching football, baseball etc.

Anyone got a number to ring to get this pricematched?

sorry i should rephrase that its a ps3 and bluray requires 24pfs

Call Your Local John Lewis

THE ony problem is that its out of stock in richer sounds in london so JL wont price match And JL wont price match on a verbal quote with sony centre
#18
Looks like only the TV for me at present.. I did detail the offer with recorder... lets see and wait. Notified have to wait couple of days!

I had to wait 2 weeks last time!!!:x
#19
this any good for SD pictures or stick with Panasonic?
#20
SD is its weakest feature as are most big lcds the w4500 has a better sd slightly less noise but is £200 more
You must have a strong input arial signal to get the best out of this in sd
#21
i seen the same tv for £530.40 on properprice.co.uk earlier today.

I got the deal from the Leicester JL store. If you ask your local JL store to pricematch the Leicester store they would. I checked with the sales advisor in Leicester. If u do need a copy of the reciept, I'll gladly send it. I was seriously torn btn this tv and the Samsung A686M but when I saw them next to each other, with blueray running thru them, I was convinced.

The W4500 like I pointed out has 100hz and better contrast ratio but I cudnt justify the £200 difference. Hope this helps.

This is a super deal. Would certainly look at snapping this up at that price. Thank you for the heads up. Heat added.

I am pretty sure this does have real 24fps, my 40" W3000 (50 Hz) has 24fps and I think the above one is much the same but with 100 hz.

Correct me if I'm wrong!

Damn an I wanted a DVD Recorder. :x

I don't get it how come all these tvs are selling so well when most of us watch 90% SD e.g. Sky (non HD) freeview or Aerial.

Will an SD killer be produced at some point or is the Panasonics going to be the best bet until everything is HD. It'll also be least 10 years before everything is HD surely.... I'm watching TV now on my CRT and picture is spot on.

I could not justify a lesser quality SD picture for big money like this.
#29
well the w4500 is new (only came out a 2-3 months ago)
I hear that because panasonic is plasma, it does better at sd than sony. But on hd, its the other way around. Nevertheless, I was advised that if you was going to watch sd mainly, then the panasonic 720p version is better.

Or my advice is stick with your crt :D

Ihave the same problem as you and have a 2 year old 32 inch sony crt which will prob last for ages, but since i have a Ps3 and 360 it will have alot of Hd input
The best tvs are the pioneer kuro but im not spending £2100 on that with all the stand and speakers

The w4500 is a better tv but it has had a few problems

I dont think you can go wrong with the w4000 and a free hd player and 5 year

OK people, I have got the number for the Leicester store, as this deal was only honoured yersterday, I'm sure they will happily honour it for you too. Its 01162425777.

The dvd recorder I got with it, its worth £243 and has a 2yr warranty with it, so the tv stand alone price is about £499, assuming u didnt want the dvd recorder.

Sony centre price matched the Richersound offer and they can give u a printed out reciept, which is what I did, so I took the Sony centre reciept with me and JL were more than happy to pricematch. Hope all this helps.

And in terms of SD output, I didnt think it was bad at all, coz in the stores, they normally just run the tvs on standard definition freeview and it still comes thru as peaches, no complains from me. Plus with the ratings an independent critic like what-hi-fi gave the W4000, I dont think u can go wrong.

Don't have that luxury, our Sony packed up. Didn't bother with repair, our tosh is on its last legs takes about 10 minutes to get it working, also not going to bother with repair & in the other room we have a small sony 21 tv, but its small.. :?

Hanging out for a killer deal with near perfect SD, I think I may go into the specialist stores and see how bad/good it really is on SD.

People must get disappointed when they get home from the store where HD content was playing & getting a bit of a shock when at home watching normal tv via the aerial - lol

Glad I'm not the only one  I'll be popping into a specialist store to check it out with SD picture not going in blind no matter how good the deal. :whistling:

Jim1 he £530.00 price u claim u saw wasnt with the 5yr warranty or the free HDD-dvd recorder.
I just checked it and the lowest online price at properprice.co.uk is £683, again without the warranty or HDD-drive.

£699 price, is with a 5yr warranty and a dvd recorder which also has a 2yr warranty and a market value of about £200. So if u sold the latter then it means u end up with a very good tv for £499. Heat it up and hope u manage to get your JL store to pricematch the leicester JL shop. The telephone number for them is posted above.

If you can find it for that price then is an excellent deal... it's currently £870 online:
http://www.johnlewis.com/230518993/Product.aspx

I bought the KDL-40W4000 and the 160gb HDD recorder from Tesco for £698 when it was on offer on the 24th.

Excellent for SD, I may not buy a freesat HD box any more, I'm very happy with the picture quality from a standard Sky box.

The DVD recorder is rubbish, I already sold mine after 3 days using it.

fredank what was the model number for the free hdd-dvd recorder?
