TV buffs this any good?

Your write up says 3 x HDMI but the link to Amazon says 1 x...what is it?

Hi yeah its got 3 HDMI. the blurb in the amazon link is wrong I think they put the specs up for the 20" by mistake.
Just fiddled with the settings for a few hours and the picture is great, freeview looks awesome through it!

Sounds good then, my sister is after a 32" at the moment and I have a Costco card.

Was this in the Costco deals leaflet they send out every year, I seem to recall a TV being in it around this time of year but it never stated a price, just that there was money off.

Edit. Found this on ebuyer and they say 1 or 2 HDMI and it doesnt appear on the Sony site as a current or previous model.

This IS a good TV (freeview & picture, sound is OK-ish according to reviews) - but who cares if you have external speakers. Also a VERY good price.

Problem is, it's not open to all. Costco is for businesses only, and they charge a membership fee. Location in the UK are limited and the membership card is Photo-ID. Most people can get registered as a business through a contact/friend though.

A real shame, but I don't think you'll get too many takers due to the above. I voted hot BTW, just on price alone.

I reckon you could sell bucket-loads of these on Ebay this time of year, and still make a tidy profit!

Great find, voted hot.....these 32" LCD's are getting cheaper by the week, 37" is obviously the new 32".
How much is costco membership? I could probably join through work, wonder where the nearest one is?
What is the meaning of life?

That's not quite true; it's not business only at all, it's just a membership club with some fairly odd rules about who can join (mainly based on profession; teachers, University workers, health professionals, that kind of thing). Indeed there's actually a separate trade membership which you're required to have if you're buying to resell.

Best way to find out is to either visit or ring your local Costco and ask if your profession allows you to join. If you're visiting take along a couple of proofs of address and proof of your employment (staff ID card for example) and if you qualify you can pay membership and get a card on the spot.

Warnings in advance; they don't accept credit cards, and while some things are much, much cheaper than usual not everything is.

great deal but i dont have a costco card. wheres the blurb about being in a certain profession to qualify as a member ?

Not on Costco's website I'm afraid, for some reason they tend not to publicise that info. It's usually easiest to phone; off the top of my head I can only remember education and NHS as being dead certs.

Its a doddle to get a Costco Card fill in the form and pay the annual fee and your in, same as Makro except they dont charge an annual fee, You can always lie and say you have a business, doesnt take long to knock up a letterhead and half a dozen business cards.
#10
Seems a great deal, well spotted swinglehurst!
BTW my local Costco (just outside Aberdeen) aswell as NHS, university workers etc. also accept local authority workers if this is of any use.

Hi guys sorry about the slow reply, work and that ho-hum! Yeah costco have a bit of a weird membership scheme. You need to be a business or in the public sector i believe. I joined up as a freelance graphic designer so thayaren't that strict on who can and cant join. Also if you have a frind thats a member you can get added to ther membership for about #20 i think.

Bought this in the Manchester Costco though they have them all over the country!

Edit. Found this on ebuyer and they say 1 or 2 HDMI and it doesnt appear on the Sony site as a current or previous model.

Yeah it does say that but its a mistake, I assure you its got three HDMI, I would be happy to email photos to you if you send me your address.

Hi again, thanks for the offer, I will take your word for it. Just seems weird that two sites can't get the specs lol.

Strange couldn't find it on the Sony site either, still waiting for my sis to get back about it, she is very indecisive :giggle:

Hi

swinglehurst -
I just rung Costco in Manchester and they said that the price is no where near this (a lot higher, wouldn't say the price as didn't have membership number to hand). The guy thought it rung a bell though and said they were doing an offer a couple of weeks ago for people that ordered a Panasonic 32inch but had problems receiving it, and were (but not now) offering another an equivalent for around £389 (he didn't remember the model). What was the sticker price showing on the shelf for the Sony?

Thanks!
#15
this offer is not valid any more. I am in costco right now!
#16
I called into Costco Manchester 20 mins ago and the tv is marked up at £552 inc VAT!

Its not in the current passport (which incidentally expired yesterday), so I dont know how you got it for £390!!

Please, let us know!!!

Cross-checks then with what the man in Costco said, thanks.

Any good deals in Costco right now, looking for a 32 inch! I love their no hassles returns policy so would prefer to purchase there if the price is right ;-)

Cheers.

Its true! That guy is misinformed; here is a picture of the price poster as proof! they apply the £70 voucher at the till, you don't actually need a voucher.

£387.73 is the actual price I paid, so its even cheaper than I actually initially posted!

Before you all go rushing of to Costco for the TV, check first, I just called two different Costco stores - in Reading and Bristol - and was told that there was never any such offer. The TV in question is £549 and the only deal they ever had on it was £70 off and that has now expired. Too good to be true. :-(

Interesting stuff. Can the people who went today confirm the 'sticker price' they saw? Even without the '£70 voucher', it would be a bargain for approx £460... Any other good deals seen at Costco for a 32 inch TV? Thanks.

As I posted earlier the price at 5pm today (Costco Manchester) was £552 on the shelf. There was no printout as per swinglehurst's last post and no reference to a £70 voucher.

I have also, just put the phone down to Costco who confirmed that there has been an offer on that TV but as mentioned by an earlier poster something to do with a cock-up on a Panasonic LCD.

Thanks for the clarification shaversport. Time to carry on looking for the ultimate 32 inch branded bargain

No probs tecas, I hope I can be proved wrong!

Be sure to post that "ultimate 32 inch branded bargain" when you do find one!
#25
I surely will. Did you see any decent bargains for an equivalent at Costco whilst you was there by any chance?
#26
As others have said, rang the Liverpool store and they said it was £550.

No nothing outstanding! Although, I do keep my eyes open for deals as their 3 yr warranty is a clincher.

exactly same as shaversport
552 and no more discounts on it. Was so annoying as I went quite far to get to costco . shouldve really enquired about the price before I went but my bad.

there are no special deals there right now, things are just cheaper cos theyre in bulk but nothing is cheaper than normal.

just got back so thats why I know :)

Hi guys. Looks like I was just v lucky, but when I was there people were buying like three or four each (Im guessing to sell on). I will keep my eye on future deals there and keep you posted with photos etc.

Tecas, I will be there at some point this week so will check the deals for you.

Nice to see the HotUKDeals members out in force when we can sniff a bargain. But it wasn't to be on this occasion.

shaversport / Cyrus - Thanks for the input, might save some of us going down to Costco especially to find the bargain TV. Although I was a bit skeptical when I spoke to the guy at Costco on the phone...

swinglehurst - Well done on getting a fantastic deal, it's a pity the rest of us were too late  There's always next time :-D

The Panasonic in question was a 32" TX-32LMD70 and was in the passport valid from 5.11.07 - 11.11.07 and was priced at 469.99 minus 70 so selling at 399.99 plus the vat so 469.98 all in and they have that bracket offer plastered over the passport too.

Only other passport telly was a 50" Samsumg plasma but all it said was save £120, no actually price given.

could someone please put EXPIRED next to this deal.
People are still voting hot for some reason even though its not available any more.
