This is my first post so apologies if if i make any mistakes.

Just come back from the sony centre in bluewater, kent and picked up the 40W4000 with the HXD890 HDD / DVD Freeview recorder for £799 with a 5 year gurantee.

The next closest i could find was a similar deal in John Lewis @ £870 or the TV alone was in richer sounds for £747 with a 5 year gurantee.

yep, will let you know what its like when ive had chance to connect it all up and play :) just seemed a very good deal to me and has a better spec and looks in my opinion than the v4000 that was on offer over xmas.
#5
My local sony centre had it at £899 for this deal!!!!!

you rather get the sony 40" for £499 from John lewis and get any extras seprparte will work out cheaper.

John lewis have more then a thousand in stock for price £599.

But people are gettting for £499 by informing JL they have seen it someelse for cheaper example RS etc.

You can make almost any deal cheaper by choosing a lower specification tv.

Not sure for RGB but the RS price only includes a 1 year warranty and is £747 for the 5 year. Also RS have very few in stock, i checked this morning with them and chelsea, reigate and brighton were the only south east stores with stock

Keep posting I want a SOny and I want it as cheap as possible and as high a spec as possible
#14
Agreed - keep the deals coming; makes a pleasant change from finding there is 17 pence off a 4 pack of beans at Tesco.

My uncle has this tv. No where near as good picture quality as the Panasonic TH42PX80 plasma that you can find for £476 elsewhere on this forum.

People are crazy to spend this much on a Sony when Panasonic plasmas are far superior.
#16
I scored one of these from the Sony Centre in Windsor yesterday, for £762.49 with 5 years warranty and a choice of the HXD890 HDD / DVD Freeview recorder or the BDPS350B Blu-ray player thrown in. And got the £20 delivery charge waived too.

They weren't sure how long the deal would run for: perhaps only until 3rd January.

Great TV used the french version, voted hot

I want the W4500, any ideas?
#19
great telly IMO.
Good deal.
Bought mine last september, not long after they first came out. they were listed as 1299 for the telly only then.

w4500 is a 100hz model, and should be better, but a hell of a lot pricier.

Get a Panasonic plasma in about three weeks when the new ones are announced, wipes the floor with anything made by Sony.

Haha here comes the war against Plasma and LCD I see hahaha.

Id say get LCD in 40".
No offence to Plasma but tbh I think that the colours dont sit right. Plus plasma tends to fade off sooner than LCD.
#25
Is this deal as of now or nearly 2 months ago when the original deal was posted?
#26
just to let peole know that this tv suffers alot of smearing on gt prologue (black cars) and on pro evo stripy shirts although on the plus side it has no responce lag and sd tv is very good

I'm voting luke-warm as this deal is better than the most recent offerings, but there were better deals available around Christmas. I think someone on here got it for £699 from John Lewis by price-matching between Richer Sounds and Sony Centre, but since then prices have risen to £799 for the TV alone....
#28
oh and forgot to say this model and the v has been discontinued and production of them finished 6th of jan
also RS will not be geting any more stock so forget about price matching with JL

but its not in stock anyware

I have a Panasonic 42PX60B that I bought for just over £1400 for the World Cup in '06. It looked great then and still does although I now want that for my bedroom and the 58' version for the front room, before you ask it's a big room.

When I see a LCD including the one that i have in the kitchen, Samsung, I see the smear and think that the overall picture quality isn't as good.

Just my thoughts.....

and with a 5 year guarantee? £824.90:whistling:

Are Sony Centres offering this deal now then? - I was in the Manchester Arndale store today & it wasnt mentioned..

No idea about rates, they've been meaningless for years - all I know is that it works with all of my consoles perfectly. I wouldn't recommend anything other than a dedicated monitor for computing, plays havoc with your eyes. A 1080p panel (Panasonic PZ series) will do what you want, but I wouldn't do that personally.

Then there's something wrong with your eyes! Fade off how? Mine's still bright after almost two years now, intending on changing in the next year anyway.

Thanks for the deal - as many as you like for this model.

Correct - this deal is over two months old i.e. Jan sales - The Sony Centre wont honour it surely
#37
This TV is now £999 on the JL web site. Why are people still assuming that there is a deal here. Its long gone ( and I got it when it was available :) )

Sony Centres are indepndently owned. so you might not get the same deal elsewhere. They might be doing other promotions or better deals..still worth checking out your local Sony centre

Have you checked the date this thread started? Its two months old! Sony have increased the price of TV's since Christmas, hence JL price is now £999 instead of £870 for this TV.

Plasmas are great if your minted and don't mind replacing your TV after 3-4 years when your contrast & brightness has significantly decreased due to the plasma depleting!
Also remember it costs over 2X as much to run a plasma compared to LCD and even CRT TV's!!

A year or so ago I would have said defiantly get a plasma as the PQ was FAR superior than LCD but now you have stunning LCD TV's like Sony's W4500 range which has seriously reduced this PQ difference!
I bought a Sony W4500 just before Christmas and it's a cracking TV, my friend has a Plasma (the best, ie Pioneer Kuro) and although the PQ is slightly better on the Kuro it's not significant enough in my opinion to counteract the technical flaws of plasma technology!
