I am really interested in the USB connection, does anyone know if it will play films direct from a memory stick?

I'm not sure I'd recommend this deal at Dixons have an LG one that is full 1080p rather than HD for the same price.

full HD makes no difference on a tv of this size your eyes cant tell the difference,HD broadcasts are only in 720 anyway so makes no odds really:)

According to the Sony web site you can play movies and photos, but unfortunately they don't say which type of files. Maybe just plays MPEG and not DivX/XviD, who knows.

Hi

I went to JL last saturday intending to buy it but was really disappointed in the picture quality. I bought an LG 32" instead which had far superior PQ in SD Freeview - this is my main viewing. I did however plug in my 500GB ext hd and played my DIVX fine.

tempted....was looking for a 32" for the spare room....
#9
Can confirm it plays xvids

Just a (probably) silly point, but John Lewis are flogging this @ £349, which includes a 5 year warranty.

Is it worth forking out the extra £50 for that?

Deal wise, no, but comparatively it'd be a lot more to get the 5 yrs warranty from anyone else, (I think)

I believe you are right! Just checked and mine definitely is 1080i!

See the Comet deal... a bit cheaper for the same TV and you can click and collect.

Confused. The comet deal is £299 according to my last search. Isnt that the same price as this?

Apols! Missed the voucher bit! Still, question is, with a 5 year warranty, would it be worth payin the extra for the JLP offerring?

yeah it is, shouldn't make any difference on a 720p set though as its still technically "HD ready"
#16
Good Deal, but the one at JL is a better deal for me at £349 as that model includes Freeview HD and they will also take away the old CRT.
#17
the 5 year is better with comet as includes accidental damage john lewis is just parts and labour

People, the tv is 720p and 1080i, sky broadcast at 1080i, the i being for interlaced, this means that on a tv with only 1368x768 resolution like this it displays the pixel information a fraction of a second apart on the same lines which fools the eyes into seeijng one picture, however on a bigger tv it results in a slight loss of picture quality compared to 1080p. Also by the way most blu ray movies are full hd 1080p, this is an example of where you might want ful hd on a bigger tv.

If you fancy a good panny, although won't play movie files from usb (big deal get a divx dvd player), look here http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/681051/panasonic-viera-tx-l32s10-32-full-h heat added for this sony deal.

I own this TV and it's fantastic. This is a stunning price. There are so many features as in this video review http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5PE8U_zYUI

And what's the difference between I and p? You will find that BBC HD is only 720p even tho it broadcasts at 1080i.

and if you convert it back to 720p by setting your tv at that, it will affect the picture quality more.

This deal effectively makes it cold:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/688050/32-sony-lcd-tv-284-05-comet
£284.05 plus Quidco

I was very tempted until I realised it has no VGA connection, and I was planning to use my old dual core laptop with one as a media PC for the bedroom, but only has VGA out unfortunately
#27
I'm not sure if this makes any difference or not, but I've not seen it mentioned, but you get a free 3 year guarentee with this TV from Sony if you order from Amazon.

Nice one, thanks for this. 3 year guarantee makes this even more tempting.
