does this tv play divx through usb??
#2
yep it plays divx through usb :)

£30 more than two weeks ago but still hot....

It is limited through the USB but still plays most files, I use the USB on my Sony Blu-Ray (BDP-S370 as has much better codec support). This will also play over DLNA off a NAS which is pretty cool for a TV.... Iplayer has been saying coming soon in the menu for about a year now though....

Really, how I've done a firmware update

I have to admit that this new SONY EX series are amazing, the menu is exactly the same as the PS3, they are excellent, the colour, quality , etc just puts to shame any other TV that I have.

I bought the EX300 series which is 32' 1080i with USB port from Sainsburys during the summer (ex-display model for £254) and is just amazing the quality is better than my Samsumg 40' 1080p it is really that good.

Playing through divx files through the USB is fantastic, I have a USB extension lead to make it easier to plug pen drives.
#7
DivX through USB or MKV too? If so I'm all over this... was looking at getting a cheaper Samsung, but Freeview HD and USB divx support sounds ace, and MKV would be a real deal breaker!

I've got the 503 with 100Hz, definitely recommend this and if you can afford/justify the extra for the 503 football in Full HD at 100Hz looks terrific!

I've got this telly and I luuuurve it.

The iPlayer only came online in the last week or so and it works really well (hooray, no more going through my Wii). Didn't pay for the Sony dongle as it was really expensive at the time, but my 200mbps home plugs work perfectly for streaming HD content.

I'm not in a huge rush for a TV at all, I won't be moving into my place for maybe another couple of months - but I'm guessing it's quite unlikely I'll find a TV with Freeview HD/USB playback/iPlayer for less even if I wait a bit? Should I just buy now?

get it bought :)

you can't go wrong for this price - and Sony are awesome (I've got a few in the house in varying sizes)

Does it have WiFi?
I'm looking for a 32 - 37 inch tele for my living room, eventually to run Sky HD off it.
Would this do the job great or are there other models out there that could be better?

I've been keeping an eye on this tv for a few weeks now. Like you, I'm in no rush and can tell you that there seems to be at least one place that sells this model around 360 mark last 2 weeks. In fact, I'm quite sure it was this last week at 1staudiovisual.co.uk. (but back up to 400 now).

I would just wait. it's technology, prices always come down!

Yes, it has wifi. I'm between Samsung LE32C580 and this, leaning towards this Sony.

fantastic deal

Sony is better than samsung

Bought this from a local shop a couple of months ago and although it's my first LCD TV (so have no point of reference) it's fantastic. Only problem is the inputlag from the remote and the title bar being accross the top of the screen.

Other than that, the only problem is the Sony wireless dongle for internet TV, which costs a staggering £60+. What the hell is all that about?

As said above, get it bought.

I was lucky enough to get this when in stock last time when the 10% off Bravia's were active too.

Really happy with tele, only flaw as with most teles in this price is speakers, really lack any base. But I've mine mount on a £10 low profile mount at the end of the bed and very impressed with features.

iPlayer is excellent and the content is ever increasing. I also have it hooked up to a media server which transcodes everything perfectly to play on the Bravia. Atm though, I have to run PS3mediaserver with the custom renderer to have it working due to the limited formats it plays over DLNA. I actually have 720p mkvs playing from a Popcorn hour jukebox under my plasma, running to the PC with the media server and trancoding that to the TV. Doesn't need to buffer for more than 10 seconds and have has no stuttering probs, obviously that's all hooked up over LAN, only 10/100 though!

There's loads of great things to say about this tele in it's price bracket if anyone has any questions you're welcome to ask. The one thing I've not tested is gaming as have enough other teles for that and I remeber reading in the review that there is a small input lag, though they say it's neglable for most, i require every milli second :p

I still can't get my iplayer to work, it just keeps saying I need to do a software update, I have selected the auto upgrade option in settings but nothings happened so far, any suggestions? thanks

May seem silly but have you presed 'Refresh Internet Content'? That's a must

Yep just tried that now! still getting the same message, it's just telling me to set "Automatic Software Update" to "On" but that's been on since I bought the TV! Have no idea what to do.

I actually had to manually upgrade to firmware on mine originally as seems it had stability problems with some routers. YOu can download the latest firware from the TV support page, then you put that file on the root of a USB stick and should boot when plugged into the tele. The do internet content refresh. Do you need me to provide a link?

Yes please, I was searching for the manual download, just didn't know where to look unfortunately :( if you could provide a link that would be great! Thanks :)

The TV is Wifi ready which means you need the dongle listed above at £60.... Or hard wire it via an ethernet cable.

For streaming via WMP the XMB is miles slower than the PS3 one and doesnt support or find quite a lot of content. That said I now have PS3 Media Server running on my PC which converts anythin not supported then streams...

The USB works much quicker and seems to have more support - I couldnt confirm MKV's work via usb sorry...

Great tv - I paid £332 via Amazon on the last bank holiday.

The USB

Another thumbs up from a satisfied owner - I got it in the John Lewis part/exchange deal they did during The World Cup - £350 and 5 year warranty!

God damn it. Knew I should have gone for the Samsung...

Got the 40" version the week they came out, paid £700 and love it to bits. Paid a premium as it was before the world cup and it was one of the first freeview hd sets out this generation.

at this price its a no brainer.

Sorry for delay mate, out to lunch atm, follow the below link and you should find your way:

http://support.sony-europe.com/tvhc/tv/lcd/lcd.aspx?site=odw_en_GB&m=KDL-32EX403

After doing much of the installing the TV will reset and go blank for a few mins, don't worry it's normal, just be patient

MKVs are not supported over DLNA or USB but like you said, edit the Bravia renderer on PS3MediaServer and you'll be able to play everything comfortably you throw at it should you be hard wired. Not tested to wireless obviously at that price though if someone does need to connect wireless, would be far cheaper and as effect to use a wireless bridge/gaming adapter

As a followup to anyone with this or other tele's waiting to update, the following site lists all over the air updates scheduled for TVs. So you'll know not to turn them off at the mains at those times :p
