Got this tv last week. Lovely set it is too. Very handy with USB divx playback capability and a great pic and sound.

The beauty of the Sony trade-in, for those who don't know, is that you can take in ANY old tv for the full £100 off. I took in an old 15" Bush TV that I was given for free years ago! Which also gave me the chance to flog my old tv, which was a beast, to a neighbour for £30! :-D

Awesome!

Sounds a really good deal.

Just called Richer Sounds and tried to get one but have been told that they are all sold out. Have to put name on waiting list for next order and the price will be the same providing they get a delivery before 11 July which is when Sony stops running the trade-in offer. Next delivery arrival date unknown.

What's SD stuff like on it, i.e. does it have motion blur? By SD stuff, I mean all non-HD channels.

This is 50Hz right?
#12
Yeah it is, you need to move up the 503 to get 100Hz.

No its not. Where does it say 'hd freeview' (or freeview HD...)?

It says 'HD Ready' and 'Freeview'.

pretty sure the 401 isn't freeview hd just freeview.

the 403 which i purchase the week they came out (for 700.. lol) has the freeview hd.

love the set, bargin at this price.

Figure I might as well mention it here. It's not directly related to this deal but is related to this TV.

I ordered one from Amazon today, picked it up for £449 (inc delivery) with a 3 year warranty. (using the code: SONYTV10). Might be of interest to anyone who can't find a Richer Sounds one in stock or doesn't have a TV to trade in. The voucher expires today I believe.

On topic: The 401 doesn't have Freeview HD, it's just standard freeview.

If you need something to trade in, Cash generators / Converters must have TVs kicking around for £30. Always the car boot sale I suppose.

Heard the gaming lag on the new Sony LCDs is terrible 40-60ms.

HDTV Test have the input lag for the 403 at 40ms in all modes, I'd presume the 401 will be similar if not exactly the same.

The 503 manages 60ms when you engage Game Mode, I wonder what scores they got without Game Mode enabled!

Hi to all, just for those that do not know... upto 37" and you will get a £50 discount at the till, 40" and you get £100 discount and 46" equals £150 discount.

Peace out.

nice but unfortunate on stock!

What is the max lag allowed for FPS games, before they become unplayable?

I would also like to know the answer to this question?
I want to change my Sony 32" V4000, is this TV much better or should i wait for another £650 deal on the EX503? (which i do not need for the HD cos i have SkyHD?)
I so want to get this right as i have been looking for the right TV for ages. I have just taken back (to Currys) a £700 42"LG SL9500 that was (allround) worse than my V400, especially the sound!

Well in my opinion the EX401 is a lot better than V4000. It's a bargain if you manage to get one.

I play games on mine, used to play CS so I've never been one to like lag.

I've not had any problems, is input lag real or is this just something for teenagers to cry about after they are headshot?

I would second this. The V4000 is quite an old model now. The new EX range would be better.

do richer sounds always offer a trade in on new TV's or is it just specific models?
#30
I picked up one of these on Tuesday from Richer sounds in Kingston - I think they had a couple left howere their website is no longer showing the trade in discount so it's back to £499.

Argos have the same TV at £499 but you can get £50 off by using this voucher

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/ArgosPromo3/includeName/sonyvoucheroffer.htm

The TV istself is pretty good for the price - doesn't have Freeview HD but as that won't be available in my area for a couple of years not a big deal.

Just called my local and was told that this trade in price was a mistake by Richer Sounds as Sony are not even giving money back on this model!! Checked the Sony website and could not see this model. Price is now £499, no trade in. Looks like Richer Sounds have made an exspensive mistake.........
