Manufacturer's Description

The KDL-40EX401 has all the essential technology you need to enjoy HD in your home. Because it's Full HD 1080p it has the best resolution on the market (1920 x 1080 pixels). It displays High Definition content in its entirety without having to downscale it to fit. This LCD TV has a 40" (102cm) screen and built-in digital TV tuner for easy access to Freeview TV and radio channels. It features a host of innovative technologies to bring you clearer pictures, sharper sounds and more atmospheric experiences. And even when you're not watching TV you can switch to Picture Frame Mode and turn your BRAVIA into a work of art by displaying pre-installed images or your own photos.

Enjoy an enhanced picture on
HD channels with the full
HD ready technology

Full HD 1080p
Full HD 1080p is the ultimate HD format, providing more than 2 million pixels for a smooth high resolution image. The number 1080 relates the number of horizontal lines of pixels on the screen. The more lines that a screen contains, the better the picture quality. To compare, HD-Ready sets have 768 while standard definition (SD) sets have just 576 lines. The letter p refers to its progressive or non-interlaced picture-scanning process where all the lines of the image are refreshed by every vertical scan. 1080p is the maximum resolution defined for HDTV use and this format is used for Blu-ray Disc™ ® and PLAYSTATION®3

Subscription-free, built-in Freeview
To add to your viewing choice, the set has a built-in Freeview TV tuner so you have instant access to a huge range of free-to-air and digital TV and radio channels. Channels are free so you won't have any subscription fees or contracts to sign. Because it's all built-in you won't need a set-top box or satellite dish either. Simply plug in your external TV aerial and access all your channels using just one remote control.

Experience advanced picture quality
Its BRAVIA ENGINE 2 processor delivers astonishingly clear and life-like colours with the most natural tones possible. Black levels are the deepest and most detailed, with a brightness and contrast that's crisp and confident. Reds and greens are notoriously difficult to reproduce on an LCD screen. Live Colour intelligently boosts these colours making sure the images you see on your BRAVIA TV are bright, vibrant and realistic. Connect a compatible camera or camcorder and the TV will automatically switch to optimum settings for displaying photos and reproduce their full, realistic texture and colour.

technology with the
4 HDMI™ ports

Optimise the picture for your surroundings
This BRAVIA model features an innovative power-saving ambient Light Sensor which detects the ambient light in a room and adapts the picture's brightness accordingly. As well as making viewing more comfortable, when the set's light sensor is activated, power consumption can be reduced by a further 30%. This is one of a group of energy-saving Eco-Settings which also includes Power Saving, Idle TV Standby and PC Power Management.

Connect to your favourite technology
With its USB Media Player, you can connect a wide range of USB devices straight to your BRAVIA TV. From mp3 players to cameras, laptops to camcorders - even content from your USB memory stick, just plug in to enjoy your favourite multimedia files on screen. It's easy to enhance your BRAVIA experience by connecting other HD products such as a Blu-ray Disc™ player or PlayStation®3 thanks to four High Definition Multimedia Interface™ (HDMI™) inputs. These connections are specifically designed to carry high quality digital video and audio content. BRAVIA Sync lets you control other Sony devices you've connected using your BRAVIA TV remote control.

Enjoy authentic cinematic experiences
Cinema Mode is a new picture setting developed in collaboration between BRAVIA and Sony Pictures Entertainment. It allows films to be viewed as close to the original director's cut as possible. Cinema Mode precisely reproduces details such as natural skin tone, lighting, colour and contrast. In 24p True Cinema mode films can be watched as the director intended for the big screen - at 24 frames per second. Standard TVs use 25 frames a second which means they play back 'faster' than they do in the cinema.

Create atmospheric settings
Whether you're watching the big match, the latest movie or playing a high impact game, Scene Select allows you to choose from a list of options to automatically adjust the sound and picture settings to complement the on screen action. If, for any reason, you're struggling to hear what someone's saying, you can activate Clear Voice. Clear Voice automatically boosts voice frequency bands and enhances poor voice quality to clear, crisp, louder dialogue.

Phoned 4 Sony centre before getting the deal!
Oxford and reading would only do it for £650 with bluray but no stand. Sold stand for £55 to mate which made it an awesome deal!
If anyone is after the 403 they are cracking tv's but the extra for the 100hz 503 is well worth it the picture is amazing!! Watching Robin hood in bluray right now!!

It does seem that Sony Centres are like franchises with regional price variations.

yup they are. I used to work in one. No harm is asking if your local will do a deal for you though
#18
I looked at my local Sony Cente (Shawlands, Glasgow), and they want £649.99 for the 403, although they offer £100 trade-in against your old TV or a cheap 14" from Cash Generator/ Convertor/ Dump

Do you mean you can't see why you posted the link or why I posted the deal? The deal I posted is £26 more that this deal and has 3 year warranty, that's seems reasonable to me.

When you can get a 5 year warranty for so little more? No compertition
#22
Ok, I suppose an extra £25 compared to the Amazon 403 price with 3 years warranty is good.

£587 now anyway, no warranty included, that's with D&G, and is 50 quid.
In any case, a five year warranty is worth NOTHING if it is not with the right people... IE a long name retailer you expect to be around in 4.5 years time, or the manufacturer! Been bitten by that one before, and even Domestic & General insurance ones are a bind to sort out.
(with a Sony, EXPECT to claim, the cost of repairs if possible at all, are astronomical!)

Who wants a Blu ray player, let alone a built in one, standard TV sound is poor in the best of TVs, so you might as well spend the extra against a Bluray in a Home cinema system, not that I am in the slightest hurry to get one?
A more basic Sony Blu ray player can be got for 90 quid anyway, so it's not exactly good value even at the lower price.

I am tempted to ring the Staines Sony Centre to see if they will repeat this package deal. Would mean a 80 mile round trip though... Anyone else managed to get the same deal?
