very simular spec to this LG at the same price & with feesat HD

picture wise it is similar but this is better as it's 100hz but you miss out on divx playback (may be available as an update though)

the direct replacement for the W series is the ex503
#7
be warned the video playback via DNLA on these are rubbish. Samsungs are more DLNA compatible.

TV picture and sound quality is super though

i would personally wait another month and wait for the 3d sets to appear eg NX903. models like these prices will drop again.

PS - dont know what this company is like £549 http://www.electrical-deals.co.uk/products/sony-bravia-kdl40w5500-bravia-40-lcd-freeview-full-hd.html?gclid=COaAysrowKECFclr4wodACXP-w

Why don't comments like these always get backed up with details of where from.

Yeah sure

Was on sale from Very for £500, 10% for a new customer bought it down to £450, 8% quidco bought down to £411.
#14
i was in cheshire oaks today - theyre doing the 40z5800 for £899 with 5 year warranty and free installation of sat dish

goes down to £799 if u trade in a telly

ive reserved one for pick up this sunday!! cant wait!!:-D
#15
I wouldn't be surprised if this drops further in price as retailers dump stock of non-freeviewHD TVs, now that most of the manufacturers have their new models out.

I'd hold off the 5500 and get a 5800 or 5810 with freeSat if I were you

still not a bad price though but not hot, so not voting up or down
#16
I have the 48W5810 (same as this but with freesat built in) and its well worth the money. The built in ethernet works well but its fussy about the video it plays back as you can imagine.

FreeSat, Ha Ha, Get a 5500 and spend the rest on Sky HD

Bought this tv for 550 from Argos a while ago (thanks Hotukdeals), it's good, but if I were to buy a tv now I'd obviously go for a new EX series. This here is like advertising vw golf MK5 when MK6 is already available
#19
Using the current trade in offer you can get the EX503, which has built in Freeview HD plus internet capabilities for £649 - personally I think it's worth the extra £50.

I'll back mine up. I got the 40KDLW5810 last month for less than £430 with 5yr warranty thanks to M&S reducing it by £350 form £1149 and then reducing it a further £350 at checkout (then quidco took it just under £430). Its essentially the same as this with a few more bells and whistles.... totally recommend them, ours is great on SD sky and HD looks amazing (as will my PS3 once I get the boss to accept that we "need" one ).
#21
the new 40ex503 is not much more money and gives you addition of freeview hd

Currently £649 in most places if you use the Sony trade in deal.

At the weekend Comet had it £649 with trade in, free sony digital photo frame and 5% voucher code and 3% quidco. That deal has just expired for the photo frame.

You can only use one code on the Comet site - so can't use 5% voucher with the BRAVIA100 trade-in code.

The W series is in the high end, would have thought the HX series was the direct replacement. The EX is cheap
#26
got one of these when it was 679, fantastic deal for an amazing tv, the other models with freeview aren't worth the extra.... freeview is now heading towards redundancy...

another thing, all the complaints i've seen about this tv are complete rubbish, no clouding and no spotlights... with a 360 or ps3 there's also no input lag whatsover...

Sony seemed to have rejigged their ranges and I've just checked the sony specs between the w5500 an ex503 and it appears that the ex503 is aqn upgraded version of the w5500.

EX503 : Features over W5500 ....
Freeview HD
S-Force Front Surround : Dolby® Digital Plus
BRAVIA Internet Video
Wireless LAN Ready
USB Video Player : YES (AVC/AVCHD/DivX/MPEG4) (think the W5500 only does mpeg2)

W5500 : Features over EX503 ....
Voice Zoom

Personally if John Lewis get the EX503 back in stock @ £749 with £100 trade in then I'd say that is the better deal given the extra features above and the 5 year JL guarantee.

My earlier post was about the Comet deal (argos and JL also same)

however, just watching Midsommer Murders and up pops a Tesco advert for the 40ex503

£549 with double clubcard points.

doesn;t seem to be available on Tesco.com, so must be store only.

A bargain.

Note: the KDL 40EX503 does seem to be the replacement for this set

If Tesco are doing it for that then you should get JL to price match and get the 5 yr guarantee ...... but they appear to be OOS at the moment online but might be worth a call to your local store.

Another thought, get them to price match and then use the trade offer to get another £100 off ;-)

Cool, its just that specs gets moved down the range as time goes, and new models are released. Bit like reverse cameras on a ford Mondeo, but this use to be only available on the S class.. it just as time moves on technology gets moved down. But after reading up the EX 503 does seem like a replacement for the V series and the HX703 or the EX703 does seem more like the replacement for the W series.

So Tesco are doing the 40EX503 for £650 without trade in? If thats the case then I'd defo wait to see if JL get more stock in (people seem to think they will over on the 40EX503 thread) and ask for a price match as then you should get the £100 off for the trade in and the 5 year guarantee.

Rob

I think people are confusing two different models.
Tesco are doing the Sony KDL40EX403 at £649 without trade in. The 40EX503 is £899.97 on their website.
#34
all these feature are all well and good, however after 5 mins they get boring and you'll find you never use them......
it's the panel that matters, and for 599 this is a bargain :)
