No, for 100Hz you need the 503
#6
only 50Hrtz, but inch for inch a very good buy... depends on how much fast moving tv you watch

Tempted. But don't really need the internet features. Anyone know any cheaper tv's with Full HD and Freeview HD around the same size?
#8
Great price, thanks! Ordered one earlier today. I had a 100hz TV before and never really liked the look anyway, so that's not a problem for me - also this model appears to have a better gaming response than the 503, which is a big plus for me.

(sorry for double post)

You might want to take a look at the Samsung LE40C580, it gets very good reviews and is similarly specced. It was on Amazon for £421 the other day, though I think it's up to £425 now.

Wow what a price. I would definitely buy this if I was looking for one. I paid £300 for my 24 inch bravia a few years ago!

You can't compare a Samsung with a Sony. I own both and the difference in quality between the one is tangible. Samsung is a value brand and Sony is a medium to decent brand.
#13
it's a good deal even without the 100hz motion, would it be better than the sony kdl46x3000 ?
#14
Interesting that this is £80 cheaper than the 40" model as 46" may be too larger for my room. Yet again Sony seems to fail to mention that you need a pay extra for hardware to get wireless connection, but if you don't need wireless that is no problem.

Tempted, but does anyone know of anything just around the corner such as a change in freeview standard that it would be worth waiting for?

Edited By: AnotherOne on Jan 29, 2011 16:22: speeling :)

AnotherOne - You've already had the change of Freeview standard with DVB-T2 which is what Freeview HD uses further down the line you might see the new DVB-3DTV standard but has that was only very recently been set out you will not see any commercial application for few years yet.

^^ Just to add there was a post about 2wks ago where someone was using a cheap router I think it was, that you could connect a similar TV to this to to get the tinternet for alot cheaper than the "official" sony wifi thingy.
#17
is is correct that you cant get iplayer on this, it only mentions youtube and lovefilm etc

anyone know?
#18
I just use a powerplug for my Sony blu ray player - much cheaper than the official dongle

This seems a good deal all in all - plenty of TV for the price
#19
same price play.com
#20
The PlayStation style home menus on these make it so easy to manage media and the dozens of inputs and sources. Highly recommended.

You can get iPlayer on it. It was released later on so that's why it doesn't get mentioned in the blurb. What you can't do is stream most formats from a NAS, which is annoying.

I have the 40" model of this tv, its only 3 weeks old, i'll happy trade it for one of these, or sell it for £399 so i can buy one of these for £100 more :) if anyone is interested PM me.

I recently helped to choose a Sony Bravia KDL40EX403U for my girlfriend's place. I was also after a TV for my place, but was hoping for a good deal on a Samsung LE40C650.

I then became aware of a deal on the Samsung LE40C580. I bought it on the strength of the review at http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/samsung-le40c580-le32c580-20100728791.htm which is much more favourable than the review of the Sony at http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/index.php?s=kdl40ex403

Having unpacked & set up both TVs, I am much more impressed with the quality of the Samsung than the Sony. The Samsung is more up-to-date & stylish. It has a metal frame & a glass stand that swivels, unlike the Sony's fixed plastic stand.

The Samsung's picture & sound quality also have the edge over the Sony, as expected by the reviews.

My girlfriend was a little sniffy when I told her I'd bought a Samsung, but the smirk was wiped off her face when she saw it's qualities. The most criticism she could manage was that the Sony's remote looks more stylish than the Samsung.

Thanks OP, ordered.

I'd have to agree with you there dooper. Looking at store examples of models at simlar price points, the Samsung Hypereal engine is far superior to the Sony Bravia engine for SD sources.

I needed the dual Scart inputs that this Sony provides and couldn't resist at this price for a 46"er.

Just bought one - thanks !!

Just ordered thanks, excellent deal for hopefully a great tv?

Got a Sony 37 but couldn't resist a bigger screen at this price.

Its certainly cheap, however, you must bear in mind that prices of these screens will be rapidly coming down in the next few weeks as these older models are about to be replaced with a whole load of newer models.

If I had not just bought the 40" one that was on offer with the 'vat back' on xmas eve I would have had one of these

Sure as hell beats my deal from 4 weeks ago!

Nice one, though if I were buying it, I would vastly prefer to order from Amazon.

I have no brand loyalty or snobbery. I do my research & buy the best blend of performance, reliability & price. I own products made by Brennan, Denon, Fuji, Humax, Olympus, Panasonic, Philips, Pure, Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, etc.

Sony sell products ranging from the mediocre to the exceptional. This TV is good, but there are even better alternatives. The Samsung LE40C580 offers superior build quality, looks, picture & sound. Why settle for something just because of the badge it wears, when a little research can reveal a better product from another brand?

Oh yes you can when you're talking about flat panel TVs. Sony have fallen way behind, whilst Samsung have not only caught up but have overtaken them. Sure, Sony were king in the CRT days, but they have only ever been mediocre when it comes to budget flat panels.

Currently, Samsung definitely make better budget TVs than Sony do.
But, this kind of money for a 46", I had to order one of these.
#39
This is a great offer but tv prices are all over the place at the moment. Did you see the price of the 40ex403 go over a thousand pounds last week?

I know this is big but I think I'll be going for the Samsung 40c580 from John Lewis as it is now £479 with the 5 year guarantee. The picture seems to be brighter and clearer but who knows until you get it home!

Only 3 left according to Amazon's page now so if you're thinking of buying one then I'd get in quick, wish I had the money or I would :)
