A Bravia LCD TV is no ordinary television. Design is sleeker, pictures are brighter, details clearer. All Bravia televisions are HD Ready as a minimum, with up to 4 HDMI connections, and come with an integrated digital tuner so there is no need for a set-top box to view Freeview TV and radio channels. Most of the Bravia LCD TVs feature Bravia Sync technology, it takes just one button to turn on your entire Sony home entertainment system, while XrossMediaBar helps you navigate your TV easily with its best-in-class menu screen. After all advanced technology should simply mean technology that does more for you.

Good price - but forget the £1299.99 LOL

OK, thought it looked a bit RRP silly.

Have removed from OP, cheers.

Got one of these coming from M&S on Monday, paid around £635 a month ago with 5-year guarantee.

Interested in other owners' opinions on how well this set performs. Seems to have lots of positive press, with the odd report of backlight issues.
#4
M&S are still doing them but for £699, though untill the 14th Feb they are reducing the VAT (on checkout) to 15%. That makes it about £664 with a 5 year warranty:

My house mate is currently agonising over this. He was about to buy it from Amazon last night untill we noticed they'd put another £30 on the price!

Good price. Don't forget 0.5% Quidco (about £3.15). Every little helps.

I'd be interested to hear what owners think of this in general / the backlight / black level issues. I'm currently torn between this and the 40" sharp posted a few days back

I've had my set for a few months now and not noticed any backlight issue. It has amazing picture quality and really good upscaling - buy a component cable if attaching a Wii to it (around 6 quid from amazon traders).

Good review from here.

Thanks Dave much appreciated. I'm tempted to get this over the Sharp so I can use the bravia link with a PS3 / PlayTV

I picked one up from Argos in October for £600 (I know cracking deal), and it is very good, essentially on par with my X3500 but the plastic frame looks very 'eeeeww' when compared to the aluminium of the X3500.

Sony's all seem to suffer from milky backlight in the corners, but in practice you don't notice it. Hopefully Sony will sort it out soon.

I have this set - and a few friends / colleagues also bought one when Argos had them for £599.

Awesome set - forget the reports of the backlight issues, not seen any problems with mine, nor any issues from anyone I know that has one.

Have this hooked up to my PS3 and surround sound and it looks / sounds great.

I agree. I bought mine some time ago and it is perfect. I have it hooked up to a Sony Blu Ray player, Wii and PS3 and have also used it hooked up to my laptop via a HDMI to DVI cable. It's stunning for this price.

Despite what everyone else has said, mine suffers from quite a bit of clouding, bought it when it was on offer at argos for £599, and although the picture quality is stunning the clouding is seriously annoying. Will probably take it back to argos next month.

backlight problems after 2 months (slightly in corners but sonys told me its normal in lcds....) seen only when watching in dark. So iam not happy with this TV :(
#16
Got mine from Amazon a while ago for £699 and it has been fantastic ever since, no problems at all that I have noticed. One of the best buys I have ever made!

I bought 2 of these TV's last year @ £500 each via a deal posted on this site (Thanks OP). There are no issues with the performance of this TV at all. Much of the forum info on the internet is nonsense and unfounded, it gets spread from site to site as rumour rather than fact. There are so many people sat in the dark playing with their settings trying to create a problem so that they can send the TV back, or post onto a forum about their TV's problem. I wonder how many people would EVER notice the problem if they HADN'T read about it. I wonder how many people stopped drinking caffeine because they READ it causes tension, when they never noticed a problem beforehand. The point is that this TV is very good and in a normal environment the Backlight would be set at 2 or 3. If the user wants to set it to 10 and look for problems that wouldn't be there under normal operation then thats unfortunate. All LCD's have a bit of backlight bleed. I would recommend this TV as it has a stunning picture in all areas. :):):):):) My god, sorry about that rant, Maybe too much coffee.

You can notice it, it ruins a lot of dark scenes and its visible during most letterbox movies, its quite annoying to be honest. And thats with my backlight turned right down to 3

You must have a compulse disorder then. I don't scan the edges of the screen i focus on the center

FFS... just bought it from Currys 6 hours ago after price matching with RGB Direct @ £647.95

Cheeky SOB didnt honour the 10% of the difference citing some C&B story

All LCD's have a bit of backlight bleed.

So true, and why if you want the absolute best you already bought a Pioneer KURO plasma...

LCD quality and contrast sucks. Buy a top end plasma or wait for large OLED screens to hit the market.

arghhh, i knew i should avoid this site for a while ... just got this at amazon, after they hiked the price up to 679 before it was 649 :(

got it delivered next day, it's an awesome tv, no backlight bleed and no input lag...

Speaking of Amazon, they do have some very helpful reviews on this model TV.
I actually own the 40W5500 myself having bought it last April when prices were considerably higher than this and have to say that I have been very pleased with it. I watch it during the daytime, night time and often have a completely dark room to watch films on it and it always looks fantastic. There is no problem with the backlight - I think much of that is false rumour though maybe a few people have had issues. Anyway, I can completely recommend it - it is an excellent telly for this money and far better than other models that I have seen in friends' homes etc.

Good price.

Debating if I should get myself one of these after ordering one for a relative from Marks & Spencer with the 5 year guarantee. Net price after VAT reduction and Quidco is £649.90 which includes installing the TV when delivered:)

FACT:
I have owned this TV for over 1 year now with the sont rht-g950 stand - they look stunning together and slots into a corner with the angled rear corners, both with glossy piano black and operate very well. I read about the backlight bleed before I got and after it arrived I couldn't see it. However, the bleed (like torchlights in the corners) is very noticeable when watching a widescreen picture where there are dark scenes and credits, but only when watching at night with the curtains drawn and no lights on. If you go into a sony shop you will not see this problem due to the ambient light. Even in the day with the curtains shut you cannot replicate this.

Its not a huge issue - otherwise the TV is fantastic - but not perfect. Having seen other TVs (eg Samsung) - the bleed is not as bad. At this price I would buy - if the TV didnt have this problem and the subsequent reports it would get 5 star ratings for sure and the price would have held much better - it gets 4 stars overall (still very good). Apparently the new 5810 model doesnt suffer but I have not seen in the same nightime conditions. Hope this helps anyone thinking of purchasing.

but its bloody annoying, when your paying good money for a TV you dont want it to have stupid backlight bleed! my samsung B550 doesnt have any bleed. You must have some seriously bad eyesight if it doesnt bug you

Hi
Just received this from Amazon - didnt see the deal here (but maybe would'nt as taken it due to some packing disasters from play  ).

One i've got is lovely - no bleed at all. Loving the 3 year guarantee (my 19 month old Samsung LE40A559 just went futz and was left with no TV)

Ordered from Amazon at 11 at night - delivered in Aberdeen at 11.30 am with express delivery - desperate to get TV to play Bioshock 2 today! (Sad i know)

So paid a little extra for dealing with Amazon and express delivery but seems cracking bit of kit so far! (intro on Bioshock 2 looking good  )

(havent played with any settings yet - apart from default setup set for Home)
