Personally I wouldnt let an Halford "Technician" anywhere near my vehicle. I find just walking and talking at the same time difficult for them let alone "installing" something.

Could be the Ilkeston one.:p

Forgive my ignorance, but is the camera thing just like what you get on satnavs, or offer something extra worth having if you already have such a satnav?

Cheers!

Similar to Satnavs it will alert you as you approach a camera. It comes with free updates for life. Handy if you are driving around areas you know and don't need to set up the Sat nav but want to be sure you don't forget about a camera.

I'd love to be able to actually get hold of one who's not in a meeting (having a fag out the back) or frantically texting on their phone (amazing how deft they are texting yet takes them 10 minutes to work out how to log in to the till)

With the Inforad K1 speed camera detector, you can be sure to avoid fines.
The Inforad K1 is about the size of a USB key, weighing just 25 grams and small and light enough to fix behind your rear-view mirror on your windscreen if you want to keep it out of sight. It can be easily positioned in your vehicle thanks to its "Clip & Go" mounting system. With its next generation GPS SirfStar III processor, the Inforadar K1 knows exactly where you are at any time. It?ll also alert you when you?re approaching a risky zone by emitting sound and light signals. When connected to your computer, the Inforad K1 gives you access to maps and other navigation software such as Autoroute Express, TomTom navigator or Route 66. The Inforad K1 is essential if you want to drive safely!

Must be some store you go to. i know plenty who take pride in their job. Maybe you should learn to shop elsewhere if you are continuing to have to suffer such behaviours.

Well it's only £39.99 on it's own in Halfords, so Halfords is cheaper.

Yawn, the onus is on the retailer, not the customer, to provide a half-decent service.

Seems to have some positive reviews on Halfords website. One reviewer says it is based on the pocketgps database, if this is the case it's not a bad buy at all. Edit: I can confirm that on the pocketgps forums they themselves say this is the case.

Often happens to me. Maybe its because I know the lost art of reading road signs.

Looks like a good deal. I've never found halfords that bad, though, I don't go in expecting automotive experts at little over minimum wage.

At the end of the day this is an excellent deal from a reputable company. With the stereo being worth around £80, the Inforad K1 being around £40 and the fitting worth £40 this is a great set up for most people and I bet these are snapped up within the next few days.
#17
I had Halford fit my stereo ipod stalk and mini sub and couldn`t fault them,

I have.

Inforad looks like a useful gadget until you discover it's rechargeable with fairly short battery life. As far as I can make out, unless you keep recharging it won't be ready to 'protect' you.

I think I'll stick with my excellent 12v powered one.
#20
I guess they're having a clearout before analog radio shuts down...
#21
Sony CDX-GT24 costs about £80 elsewhere from what I can see and the Inforad K1 goes for £40 on eBay so if you just want the stereo this is a pretty good deal, even if you forget the free install like I would.

Refering to a smug post earlier, you cannot just generalise about every technician in every branch of Halfords everywhere being rubbish without coming across as a bit simple.

I had a reversing kit fitted by Halfords Catford about three years ago and they did a great job. Still working fine, all the holes drilled exactly in line and symetrical - no problems whatsoever. If you are referring to checkout staff, then they are unskilled labour - some good, some not. But the technicians cannot be classified under the same hat as they would damage peoples cars and Halfords would be in trouble.

That's the thing. They often do, and they often are.

That is gonna be SOME clearout.....

There's no plans for analogue shutdown till atleast 2019, if at all.

Even so, I might save my money just incase this isn't going to work in 10 years time:-D

does anyone else get stuck after clicking on reserve/buy button? just goes to an empty page

Yes, have similar issues. The site is playing up.

Where did the FREE Store Fit go???

Hey good point! Halfords have pulled the free fitting! Cheeky blighters!
#31
When I go through to the order page it's stating 'home delivery' ONLY - I'm hoping to take advantage of the free fitting service - does anyone know how this works? ie. can i return it to the store for them to fit once it's been delivered? Tried calling the local halfords but no answer!!

Also - my current cd player is a sony - so i'm assuming i won't need to order the optional extras that have been suggested for my fitment - 1, adapter harness and 2, aerial switch ?????

They have removed the free fitting deal from this package. I guess it would have been either a voucher in the box or it shouldn't have advertised the free fitting in the first place.

If you already have an aftermarket stereo then you won't need any of the extra cables or adaptors. All you will need will be the key to remove the existing unit but if that is a Sony the keys that come with this unit might work. When I say "key" it is usually just a metal ring with a flat bit of metal that slides in to a slot and releases the unit from the cage.

To swap the unit over to this new one should be a 5 minute job. You may find the cage doesn't have to be changed. So remove the old unit, take out the ISO connectors - plug the connectors in to the new unit and slide it back in till it clicks in to the cage. Just make sure you don't have any cables snagging as you push the unit in to the cage.

Not worth paying Halfords £39.99 to do that.

as time of post, still says free fitting on the site - under specification :)

You get the stereo, the speed camera unit and a 3.5mm cable for plugging MP3 players in to the front of it.

i want to purchase the following for my car: Sony CDX-GT24/Camera Detector/Audio Cable/FREE Store Fit Cat code: SONYGT24once ive made payment, how do i ge tthe free store fit from online purchase?
presumably, the items will be delivered at my home address.
i want to find out before i commit and pay

It looks like the free fitting should not have been advertised.

If you order and it comes with a fitting voucher then great. If not you could try Halfords customer service and refer them to the advert that does mention free fitting.

It seems the order was too good to be true, they have cancelled my order without giving any reasons.
