The Comet price for the Sony CX115 is £289.99 but you can reduce the price you pay to £226 by following the process below. You can even order it for collection in store. The Sony VAT Refund offer finishes on the 24th December but I don't know how long Comet will be offering the camcorder at £289.99

According to the latest Which magazine Camcorder review, it's a highly rated Full HD Camcorder that uses either Sony Pro Duo or the much cheaper Ultima Pro SDHC Class 6 Cards which cost less than £25 for 16Gb (which will provide 80 minutes HD recording).

- 5% discount by entering 5OFFMULTI at checkout reducing price to £275.49
- £41.02 cashback from Sony on their VAT refund offer
- Additional 3% cashback by entering the Comet site through Quidco £8.26 (if you can be bothered with this step)

Thank you for taking the time to contribute to the forums and welcome to HUKD :)

I've removed the cashback from your quoted £price as the deal price should be the price you need to pay for the item before any retrospective cashbacks.

Thanks again.

Isn't it £275.49 with 5% off code?

Worth noting the following from Sony's claim form:

By way of clarification: the price that you have paid in the UK includes VAT at the standard 17.5% rate; this is added to the ‘net’ or
‘ex-VAT’ price of your Sony product to give the price you paid. Of the overall price of the product VAT constitutes 14.89% not 17.5%.

Cashback for this would be £35.70

In which case the base price should be £335.99 (possibly minus the 5% discount).

From the Comet site:
Get this camcorder for just £285.95. You pay £335.99 and claim £50.04 VAT back from Sony.

So the price already includes the cashback element.

Not a good deal then :/ , better of getting the Panasonic HDC SD60

The calculations I provided are accurate. The price you will pay Comet is £275.45 (after using the 5OFFMULTI code at check-out).

You then send the original receipt for the £275.45 to Sony and according to their Sony VAT Back website (See URL below) you get back a cheque for £41.02 from Sony hence the final price paid is £234.43 without using Quidco. If you enter the site using Quidco then there is a 3% cashback from Quidco which would reduce the final price to £226.

The cheapest fastest Media Cards are SDHC Class 6 (The Camcorder won't use the Class 10 transfer rate) - for example the Ultima Pro Class 6 16GB card is approx £20 on ebay and it works on my iMac, Macbook and Panasonic TV.

The Sony cashback calculator is below.

The Panasonic does have a slightly better review (though both get good reviews) but I chose the Sony as I like the fact it is smaller than the Panasonic, I'm only paying approx £230, the SDHC Cards are low cost, getting cheaper and work in all of my devices and if I decide to upgrade at some point I expect I will recover the full amount I have paid.

still a rip off

On what basis can this be described as a ripoff?

Ignoring the Quidco you pay £234.43 for an item that costs £289.99 for collection in store which is already discounted.

Perhaps that's an old piece of text they forgot to remove off the site, try adding it to your basket and it comes through as £289.

This is a good camera, got it from Amazon a few weeks ago when they had the £50 off voucher in addition to the Sony cashback. I got some Transcend 16Gb Class 10's from Amazon for £17.99 and they work fine. Should also note that the camcorder is 1080i not p, but still produces good videos and works well in low-light.

One final note and I will then give in. The Comet price is £289.99 BEFORE getting 5% off using 5OFFMULTI so you will pay Comet £275. You then get the £41.02 Cashback from Sony so you end up paying £234.43. If you use Quidco you also get another £8 back.

Sorry dkoffler, I wasn't debating the validity of the voucher, I was just replying to Megamart to demonstrate that the price is £289.99 at Comet, not £335 as the item description on the Comet page states! Did you go for it in the end? Had some great results (compared to our old Canon miniDV) on holiday, it coped really well with day and night recording.

I was lucky to get this camera 2 weeks ago for £207 from Amazon.
I bought several of the extremely cheap Transcend 16GB SDHC Class 10s for around £16-17 each and they work brilliantly, even at the highest quality 24mbps mode.

Hi
I am a comet employee and can confirm that the price you would pay is £289.99 (then minus any discounts you can apply including the sony vat back reducing the price further) not the £335.99 listed in description. Using all discounts you would get the camera for around £226, a brilliant price!
The price in the description is out of date and wrong, i will amend now.
Thank you for using comet.co.uk

Hmmn... I bought this Camcorder from Comet in August when Sony were doing a different cashback promotion. I posted the deal here
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/sony-hdrcx115eb-full-hd-camcorder-2/731604

Literally the other day my £9 Quidco was declined by Comet. Absolutely no idea why, but slightly annoying.
