Argos -( £449.99 ) - £329.99 after cashback and voucher!
I know it's not the cheapest 40 inch TV out there - but this will go on the internet for i-player and skype and allows HDD's etc. and it's a Sony! (yeah - not as good as they used to be! - but still pretty good!)
The TV is £449 in Argos - but til Wednesday you get a £20 voucher when spending over £100 from them, So making it £429.
Then you can claim a £100 cash back from Sony for this model (til 25/12/11) ( paid in 28 days on a Visa debit card ) as part of their Smart offers promotion, making the TV effectively £329.99.

Buy it any which way you want - they just issue their cash back on a Visa card - probably safer than posting cheques - for full details see sony / smart offers.

Hi - Here's the Sony cashback form - listing all details and cash back amounts for which models - But Argos gave me a paper copy (exactly the same when i bought the tv) to fill in and send for the cashback (£100)

Not much of a TV freak but I recently purchased a Sony and it is quite impressive... Very HOT at this price for a 40 inch.

Could I still get the cash back if I pay for the TV with Argos vouchers?

Also will this play MKVs

Cheers

Has anyone see any good deals for the 40CX523 (same as the 520 but with Freeview HD). I can't get the Costo deal which is probably the best, the next best seems to be Amazon at £345.80 (£445.80 - £100 Sony cashback). No 5 year warranty though.

This is a real cold deal

comet sells it for only £319 (419-100) without the hassles of any gift card

was gutted to find you can't spend all £20 of Argos vouchers at once - worth bearing in mind - it's not really "cashback".

Richer Sounds were doing it for £373 after the Sony cashback but that did include a 5 year guarantee - they may still have some stock left? I was actually going to go for that deal but was disappointed with the picture quality so am still on the look out.

I bought the 523 (exactly the same apart from the addition of freeview HD) 2 weeks ago from Richer Sounds and I'm so chuffed with it, the feature list is brilliant. I've played a few PS3 games and they look great.

Sorry, don't know the answers to your questions, but you've got £450 worth of Argos vouchers? If you're printing them, would you mind printing a few extra for me?;)

Where are you price matching this telly from as this is the telly i want?

reviews are awesome for it :)

I dont know why this deal is getting hot... the following deal is cheaper (which only was lukewarm)

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/sony-kdl40cx520bu-40-lcd-tv-419-319-after-sony-c-b-comet-amazon-1037429

Folks, the same model is available for £319 (after 100 pound cash back from Sony) both at Comet and Amazon and is available in stock... No need to worry with Argos gift card back hassles

The Richer deal seems to be instore or £24.99 delivery, (I'm nowhere near a store) there's also a note on their website that they may be ex-display, ex-repair etc. Would Richer still offer the 5 year warranty on a repaired TV?

I'd like a 5-year warranty, but would go for the standard warranty is the price is right.
I'll probably keep waiting for the right John Lewis or M&S type deal.

richer sounds are doing it for £499 Click
Would be good if john lewis price matched with there 5 year warranty but doubt it very much.
Richer sounds do it with 5 year warranty for an extra £50, Does look a very nice tv and is a lot better than the sony.

Not familiar with Internet TV. Is it a browser or is it just certain apps. Assume you get one of those wireless mice with a built in trackerball?

It has a browser, but text displayed are so small, and the "keyboard" - your remote control was horrible.

No mice unless it ran away while I unpack it... :p

I bought it from Costco (40CX523) and it's great.

Got serviio running on my PC and it plays all videos, bluray etc.

Good one.
#36
got the freeview hd model from costco too. Replaced my old Samsung 32 inch that I got from Debenhams on a misprice about 4 years ago (around £360, original price was about £550-£600 at the time). Only tried the HD photos but they look amazing!

The Samsung UE40D5520 has good reviews...

http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/samsung-ue40d5520-ue32d5520-201107121282.htmVerdict 'Recommended'

http://www.techradar.com/reviews/audio-visual/televisions/plasma-and-lcd-tvs/samsung-ue40d5520-1020424/reviewVerdict 4.5/5

http://www.trustedreviews.com/samsung-ue40d5520_TV_reviewVerdict 9/10

Better than the Sony? Not sure. Both have good reviews. Is the £500 Samsung worth the extra cost? No, the £100 Sony Cashback gives it the biggest 'bang for the buck' at the moment. No contest.

"Recently, we became aware of a potential issue affecting a small number of units of BRAVIA Televisions - models KDL-40CX520 and KDL-46CX520, which were sold since March 2011 onwards. These affected units did not meet Sony’s design requirements for part of its insulation material and as such, when the units are subject to certain rare conditions (such as high temperature, high humidity and continuous usage for a prolonged period of time),customers who come into contact with the metal parts of the affected units or metal parts of a product connected to the affected units, may possibly experience a very slight irritation with no harmful effects on the body.

"To ensure customer satisfaction, we will provide free inspection and repair for the affected units.

"In order to determine if your unit is affected, we need to verify this through a serial number check. Please click http://www.sony.com.my/pressrelease/asset/449226/section/productpressreleases to find out how to check and note down the serial number of your TV set.
