I have the 14.1mgp version of this, the H55 and it is indeed a superb little camera - beautiful all-black precision look and feel and an absolutely stonking zoom range for such a small camera.

If you look around you may find the H55 for similar money (or less) than this model.

The HV5V will be miles better than the 14mp version, far better sensor

Hx5v is way better, more megapixels don't make a camera better

Maybe not, but Sony have upped the successors – the HX7V and HX9V – out this month, to 16.2Mp.

Obviously the reason the HX5V is dropping in price.

This is brilliant camera. I got it last summer and never had any problems with it. Takes amazing pictures and GPS is really handy.

But this is last years model. It should be replaced soon with HX7V and HX9V.

play now matching - although would rather buy from Amazon. just makes me think these and TZ10's might go down a bit more when all the new sony/panny/fuji are out in the next week or so.

just weakened and gone for it over paying £30 extra for a TZ10 or waiting for the new breed of compacts and possibly having to pay around £300. It has a lot of advantages over the TZ10 for me but criticisms kept coming down to its IQ in comparison. Just done a few comparisons of full size images at the following and the images aren't bad. Probably the reason why some reviews say its good and others don't. some of it down to personal preference. I happen to prefer most of the sony shots (the aggressive smoothing appeals in most circumstances as compared to the grainy sharpness of the TZ and it is only a snapshot camera and the benefit of more detail for PP won't really bother me - I'll use the DSLR for quality shots).

at this price the TZ10 might edge it for me, although I like the burst mode, HD video (w/o TZ vertical streaking) and panorama on the HX - but at £30 more it doesn't. horses for courses. And I have had one of the TZ series and rated it highly.
