This Sony Cybershot DSC-W50 Digital Camera is only £122.88 delivered from Amazon - this seems to be priced over £170 at all the other stores! It looks like a good digital camera for the price - with a 6mp picture resolution and 3x optical zoom. The2.5" LCD screen on the back looks quite excellent too.

Manufacturer's Description
Style, Simplicity, and Performance; The DSC-W50 combines a sleek metal body and compact design with new high-tech features for image quality and operating convenience. The super-sharp 6.0 megapixel resolution delivers more detail when you're cropping or making big prints. Carl Zeiss 3x optical zoom lens and High Sensitivity Mode (ISO 1000) combine to produce sharper images even in low-light conditions. In addition, Sony's original Clear RAW NR processing circuitry minimises the colour noise distortion of high-sensitivity shooting.

A Screen that Shows More; The extra-large 2.5 inch LCD screen of the DSC-W50, not only gives you a big, bright image for setting up shots and checking results, but also displays a convenient camera Function Guide, with text and icons for easy-to-operate features like colour and brightness adjustments, image size, flash and self-timer modes, focusing modes and much more to make your photographic experience a blast! The DSC-W-50 even provides an eye-level viewfinder for traditional shooting.

Everything You Need for Great Results;Despite its compact size, the DSC-W50 incorporates the shooting features that every avid digital photographer needs - 32 MB Internal Memory for capturing images in-camera without a flash memory card, built-in slot for optional Memory Stick and Memory Stick PRO Duo media and Stamina Lithium Ion battery with enough power to capture up to 390 shots.

6.0-Megapixel Super HAD CCD;Higher megapixels gives you more detail, clarity and definition for making large prints and cropping in on your subject. Sony's advanced Super HAD (Hole Accumulated Diode) CCD design allows more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing noise.

Extra-Large 2.5 Inch LCD Screen; The DSC-W50 has a bigger and brighter 2.5 inch LCD screen for setting up and viewing images with a one-touch "Play" button that makes it quick and easy to view your photos.

Simple Controls with Function Guide;User-friendly controls and simple on-screen Function Guides with text/icon display, helps you to set up camera functions for terrific shots. This means that you'll also have greater creative freedom to adjust colour mode (including "Natural" for subtle colours and "Rich" for more intense colours), sensitivity, brightness, and image size.

High Sensitivity Mode;A new High Sensitivity Mode (ISO 1000) allows you to shoot with superb results in low-light conditions. Sony's original Clear RAW NR (Noise Reduction) image processing technology helps suppress the colour noise that can accompany high-senstivity shooting.

Carl Zeiss 3x Optical/2x Digital Zoom; The 3x optical zoom helps the DSC-W50 bring distant subjects closer and lets you frame shots for better composition. Sony's precision 2x digital zoom provides an additional 2x magnification to enlarge details without unsightly jagged edges.

Stamina Battery Power; With its powerful Lithium Ion rechargeable battery, the DSC-W50 can capture up to 390 images - enough to capture every single moment during your entire vacation! The compact BC-CSG battery charger is also supplied for battery recharging on the go.

13x Smart Zoom Feature At VGA resolution;Sony's Smart Zoom feature intelligently "crops into" the central portion of interest in your photo without sacrificing full CCD resolution and avoiding the image degradation of other digital zooms.

Capture Images In-Camera;With 32 MB of internal memory, the DSC-W50 allows you to shoot without a flash memory card, enabling you to then transfer your images to an optional Memory StickDuo media, upload to your computer, or make prints on your digital printer.

Memory Stick Duo Media; The DSC-W50 has a built-in slot for optional Memory StickDuo or higher-capacity Memory Stick PRO Duo media (the ultra-compact media for shooting, storing, and sharing your photo images.)

MPEG Movie VX Fine Mode; The DSC-W50 can capture VGA (640 x 480) audio-video clips at high frame rate (up to 30 frames per second), with the convenience of length being limited only by the capacity of your media. Product Description;Sony's worldwide, outstanding reputation for creating unique, attractive, high-quality, advanced technology products, rests on a long line of innovations embraced by people from all walks of life. With a diverse product lineup serving a variety of lifestyles and industries, Sony continuously strives to introduce new products and technologies to meet changing market needs, so that you never have to let a memory fade away!

Dave, post a new thread in the deal requests forum... (but read the rules there first)

this is where i would have kicked myself if i bought the casio z600 from jessops last week, for roughly the same price. this camera is way better

now just weighing up the fact that this camera takes a memory stick opposed to sd cards which are dirt cheap at the minute

Yeah hanif, that is a very good point indeed. And the SD cards are just going down and down in price. But still, I do like the look of this Sony as well, I'm just not a big fan of the proprietary Sony memory standards. 8-)

hmmm hanif and emma...could you plz tell me why would u put this camera over the z600? im looking to buy a digital camera in the £120-£140 price range...and am divided between the two at the moment...

also are there any other cameras in that price range currently that you would recommend over the sony w50?

Having read some member comments on this forum devesh, they really recommend the casio, having used it and loved it. PLUS, as I mentioned above, the casio takes SD cards which are much cheaper than the proprietary Sony memory sticks. That would sway me towards the casio.

However - lets move into an area I don't know much about - the quality of the lens - maybe someone here can comment. I believe the lens on the Sony is superior, leading to better quality pictures.

Does anyone here know much about lens's and can make an educated comment on that front?

In my opinion this camera is of a much better quality than the casio, good strong build and a sony. i am also searching for a camera in this price range and have found the following site very usefull when comparing
http://www.cameras.co.uk/camera-reviews/sony-dsc-w50.cfm

once you are in the site there are more camera reviews to choose from on the menu which is on the right hand side or in the camera selector

yeah hanif i have been using that website too! and according to that site the casio (rating of 82) is just about the same as the sony (rating of 81)...was just hoping someone could interpret the specs of the 2 and recommend one of them!

emma i have also noticed people recommend the casio...and i have been scannin around the internet and read reviews for both...and both seem to be recommended by forums/people who have bought them! was hoping someone could just point to something like the lens quality and recommend one of em!

also after a quick look around the internet...seems like amazon hav the best price for a 512mb memory stick duo pro, £12 for this one:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0009XFK4E/ref=pd_ecc_rvi_2/202-5903491-9542201?ie=UTF8

can anyone can find anythin cheaper than this for a 512mb? or any good deals for 1GB?

edit: just noticed that the above memory stick isnt from amazon itself but from a marketplace seller!

edit: just been looking on ebay...quite good deals for memory sticks on there too

Been using hot uk deals for ages now.
But only registered to say thanks for posting this deal.

Was looking for a camera for my honeymoon, and this fit the bill perfectly, plus loads better than most i looked at in the price range.

Had email saying it been dispatched, at cheap price, even though its £30 more now!:):)

I suspect they were trying to match Dixons online price (with Dixons delivery charge, it was exactly the same.)

Thing is with Dixons, it is NEVER in stock, have been keeping an eye because I wanted the W50.

Was very pleased to see it on Amazon for the same price, so ordered straight away. Absolutely terrific camera for £122, probably best value digi cam around for this money and 1GB memory sticks are available now for £20.....

Cheers to original poster!!!

Exactly, I've been keeping my eye on the dixons deal too... but never available.
