Inside, there's a super-sensitive 9.1 megapixel CMOS sensor that cuts image noise in low-light conditions like dusk or dimly-lit interiors. You'll see the difference with crisp, natural results when you're shooting handheld without flash. The Cyber-shot HX1 is the world's first compact digital still camera with 10fps burst shooting at full image resolution

Want to capture the really BIG picture, like breathtaking landscapes and city scenes? The HX1 is the world's first digital still camera with Sweep Panorama. This new shooting mode stitches together a high-speed burst of frames to produce an extra-wide, high resolution image. Just press the shutter button once then sweep the camera to create seamless panoramic shots.

The Cyber-shot HX1 has another great trick up its sleeve. It shoots High Definition movie clips at 1080/30p resolution. You'll enjoy smooth, detail-packed HD video on the big, bright flip-out LCD screen or on your HD TV.

Key Features:

Get Closer to your subject
A high-quality Optical Zoom lens gets closer to the action, letting you fill more of the frame with distant subjects. Unlike digital zoom, you'll get uncompromised image quality at all settings - even high magnifications.

Pack more into every scene
Dramatic landscapes, architectural shots, interiors and even family scenes can produce disappointing results when a scene gets cut off at the edges. A wide angle lens lets you pack more into the picture without having to stand further back from the subject.

The camera that thinks it's a camcorder
Left your camcorder behind? Don't worry: now you can capture crisp, clear HD movie clips at an incredible 30 frames per second for smooth, clear action. You'll be amazed by the quality, detail and colour.

Freeze the action
It's fascinating to catch every instant of a golf swing or a bird in flight. High-speed shooting grabs a continuous burst of images at full resolution. Faster than many professional digital SLR cameras, it's a great way to capture rapid movement without sacrificing image detail.

Experience the whole picture
Now it's easy to grab breathtaking wide-screen views of that landscape or city scene. Sweep Panorama mode shoots a high-speed burst of frames as you sweep the camera from side to side (or up and down!). Images are stitched together automatically by the camera to create one amazing panoramic image.

Mummy can I have one please?

Fantastic looking camera - 28-stupid zoom full 1080/30p HD.

These user reviews and pictures at Steve's digicams should get the credit card out of your wallet....

Seems to be around £300 on other sites too. Now if the Canon SX1 was this price.....

I have the Panny FZ28 and picture quality is amazing. The only problem with an ultra long zoom, is keeping the camera steady, it really is quite a challenge to keep the subject in the middle of the shot.

This Sony must be the dogs to beat the Panny.

I thought the IS on the FZ28 was quite good :? - I don't have too much trouble with my FujiF8000fd.

Yep £302 - £308 delivered at Crazy Cameras, Simply Electronics, Camera Box - but a lot of people like to use the 'mainstream' companies and this is still cheaper - Amazon has them at about £360

I'd choose the SX1 if the prices were equal - but the SX1 is £100+ more expensive and I'm not too worried about the raw mode...

Edit: Looking at a few more reviews this still looks a great camera - but has problems; see this review http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/sony/dsc_hx1-review. I love the features like the sweep panorama and hand-held twilight mode and features like the GPS-C53 letting you tag photos with exactly where they were taken are great; but others like the 10fps burst mode and 1080/30p HD are compromised (burst mode takes a long time to recover and allow you to continue shooting and the 1080/30p is upscaled); and then the picture quality just isn't as good as you might expect :-(

I can't make a decision. I've got a S5 IS and want to upgrade for an Aussie holiday in Jan. I don't know about you but I'm never going back to separate Video and stills cameras. The S5 IS was a revelation.

It's the HD mode in SX1 which would make me upgrade (have you seen some of the y'tube footage? wow). I've looked at a panny superzoom HD and the audio is supposed to be pants (the canon audio as you know is stereo and excellent quality). But then this sony comes with the Panorama feature which looks great and it uses a proper lithium rechargeable battery not AAs....and GPS tagging (didn't know it had that).

But the sony had a Sony card and the Canon SDHC which will go into my Mac laptop SD slot without a card reader. Also I'm not so sure about its HD quality and the audio quality.

I'll wait a few months and see what happens with the price...maybe this Sony price will make Canon think a bit or I can pick one up in the Jan sales......

i bought an sx1 is recently and it is fantastic. if you're spending 300 quid you may as well pay the extra 80 for the sx1. (380 from currys using code, also 4% topcashback). looking at the reviews i'd say the main advantages are; the continuous mode really is continuous, there's no 17 second delay while it writes, hardly any delay at all actually. its 4fps (at full res) instead of 10fps, but has no limit on the number shots you take, it will shoot as long as the button is pressed. the video mode really is true full hd, looks awesome and is decent even in low light. The fully articulated screen is really useful, great for shooting from the hip and self portrait shots so you can see if you're in frame before you take the pic using the remote control. The start up time is very quick too. i've also found the software included to be very good.
