Always check reviews before buying a camera .. a good place to start is Steves Digicam Reviews, with Camera`s you can never assume that because its a top brand that its going to be as good as the rest in its price range , however Im not saying anything about this one other than check the review ..

Here is the full review link and also the Bottom line pasted below

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2007_reviews/sony_s650.html

Bottom line - While it has plenty of positive points like good image quality, performance, loads of exposure modes, and a durable all-metal body. We did find some negatives as well. very slow flash recharge, poorly placed (plastic) tripod socket, low quality movie mode, and small 2.0-inch LCD that is very difficult to see on a bright sunny day. However, with a street price of US$140 or less, the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S650 still offers a good value in the affordable "ultra-compact" category...

Great deal

Considering StevesDigicams is probably the most uncritical review site on the planet, it must be pretty bad for them to go that far in their comments :whistling:

I have the DSC-W35, the built-in rechargeable battery version of this camera and find it brilliant. DSC-S650 needs rechargeable AA batteries so you have to decide which option suits you best

I have got this camera and I think it is great.
Its my third digital camera and I can't fault it.
I paid £109 for mine just before Christmas on Amazon.
Definately worth £60 quid, hope this helps.

was going to buy but voucher not working

Thanks for this, but I prefer the Canon Powershot A560 bought off Amazon for 82 quid, with 20 cashback to come off making it a similar price. Better reviews and 4x optical zoom. See the Canon thread for details.

This camera took horrible shots. i got it for £100 and returned it in a week and a half. The camera didnt even have a viewfinder, and i never even noticed it untill i already had it. I could not even recomend it for a child let alone a beginner. Just a bad camera in general.

Not a balanced feedback IMO. Also, hardly any Sony compact camera has viewfinder these days :)
