Good price - though these will use pricey Sony memory sticks, not SD cards. We got my son a £35 Sony clearance camera at Sainsburys for Christmas without realising how much the memory sticks cost

I just purchased an 8gig memory stick from Deal Extreme for about £14, I would say an 8gig SD card would be about the same price!

They really are not any more expensive.

lol..good luck with that card when you take all your precious photos and then cant access them one day

should not buy fake pro duo cards buy from play or somewhere and get a legit one

good price though OP

just get yourselves an adapter and use micro memory cards...infact that way it probably works out cheaper than normal sd cards.

its not comparing like for like though....a bit like saying Skoda make a 2 litre car but its a lot cheaper than a Ford 2 litre car.....you have to take into consideration quality of lens and not just megapixels.

My phone has a 5 megapixel camera but it takes awful quality photos.....i also have an old sony 5 megapixel camera and that takes amazing shots......so its not all about the megapixels.

whatever, the amount of people that would walk into the sony centre I used to work in with fake cards and expect us to do something or help them get back their photos was ridiculous.

All you can do is lol at them for being cheap, but hey take the risk, some of the cards will work for a bit and then go kaput, some might be fine altogether.

I do get your point, but having said that I have bought a few from both Ebay and Amazon Marketplace sellers and they've all been tip top.

From memory (pardon the pun) wasnt there a spate of fake sony memory cards being sold by play????

Yes you can. Samsung make some OK cheap compact cameras and sometimes do a bit better than that, though perhaps not recently. Sony make some OK cheap compact cameras. There all very much of a muchness, though looking through reviews of similar models Sony might just be a little better. At £49 it's hard to complain as long as your not expecting miracles.

I should also mention that this camera doesn't have a Carl Zeiss lens.

lol @ pun

not sure about fakes from play (unless it was playtrade??) if there were issues I would have thought play would rectified it no problem. I know sony made a statement a while ago about being wary of the fake ones etc but like I said in another comment its hit and miss, if you update your photos a lot im sure it probably wouldnt be a problem if one day you can access your pics on a dodgy memory card
#21
Sorry this might be a bit off topic, but is anyone else finding that Amazon is playing up a bit today, slow to load, and to upload pictures?? Im after a new camera and might just get this one if I can get on there! Thanks for the post!

So,so true. I keep posting this but people still dive in - blinded by the Sony name I suppose. Their cameras are no better than average.

I hear Sony is finally moving over to SD/SDHC so that is now the absolute standard.

In summary, an unremarkable price for an unremarkable, AA powered (no battery or charger supplied) camera. That memory issue is the killer - both the cost and lack of universal availability/readability.

And still people vote it hot! I guess it says Sony and it's 50 quid so the sheep just follow.
#23
I just bought a 16gb duffer off Ebay. My next will be from Amazon.
#24
AA Batteries.........big no-no.....they'll let you down when you least want them too!
I've got a 7.2mp Li-ion and last AGES before it needs recharging
which is why this one is so cheap - and the lack of stick

No its not. A Skoda is a better built car than a Ford now. Quality is on a par with a VW, has been for many years now and also more reliable than a ford.

quite true---- most Skodas are probably better built than the eqivilant Ford model. Look @ JD power or if you want some anicdotal evidence look @ what private hire cabbies are driving - lots of skodas . The VRS Fabia also hold its value phenonmenonly well.

Someone posts a mediocre Sony camera at a mediocre price, the world votes it hot and by page 2 you two are arguing over cars - what a site!
