Product Description
Sony has added to its popular CyberShot W range with the ultra compact, wide angle DSC-W170 camera. Thanks to its automatic face recognition and scene modes, you'll be able to take perfect shots in a snap! It has a 10-megapixel sensor with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens, a BIONZ processor and an optical image stabiliser, guaranteeing faster response times and sharp pictures that are bursting with colour! It also has a high sensitivity that goes up to 3200 ISO and a D-Range optimiser, which adapts to different lighting conditions to automatically adjust exposure and contrast levels. Sony makes intelligent photography with professional results available to everyone with the DSC-W170!

ur better off getting a canon ixus - specs are better
#4
Can you give me a link to the cannon one as i am looking at getting a new camera but don't know too much about them. i was looking at the sony dsc w200

This isn't anything special for the price-shop around before getting this as Im sure there are others with better price/performance out there
Verdict:
The Sony DSC W170 is a fairly solid offering without being anything spectacular. As I have found with other Sony digital cameras in this range the pictures tend to be a bit softer than with some other brands.

It's ironic that the picture is terribly pixilated. :)

Voted hot!
A friend has this camera, its pretty nice. I personally i have a Cannon Ixus and its been brilliant.

I'm tempted more by the panasonic tz5. A bit more expensive though
#9
good price for a good camera... have been using it for sometime now. excellent pictures....
#10
was tempted by this, but it looks like it's gone up to £159... or am i doing something wrong?

You need to use the discount code 'HOTDEALS' at the checkout for the lower price and don't forget to add the free camera case if you want it.

use "HOTDEALS" at the check out and the discount works!!

depends what spec you want. i think it's worth getting a £200 one - still, the ixus is so much better than the hyped up sony - cheaper too for what you get spec vs spec

I wouldn't get the 970, the 960 is a much better camera, I bought my dad one and am VERY impressed

Nice deal but I'd say the Casio Z1080 beats this for quality and thats available from dixons for something like £115

never buy the casio...they don't last and the quality is REALLY poor compared to this

I am thinking of this, but for a bit more can get the Olympus 850 SW which is waterproof and shockproof. For £150 which would you go for.

Amazing what deals can be had for cameras right now. Just wish I had Jacques Cousteau's fortune

Hmmm. I think I'll look for more information than that. The 970 has only been rated twice on that link while the 960 (? - 950 was linked to) is rated 29 times. It's too early for that vote to count for anything. For all you know Someone might have grudgingly rated it 1 or 2 stars in every section while the other user rated it 5 stars in every section.

(oops - sorry for the bump. Didn't realise this thread was so old.)
