great price for a gr8 camera, got this on ebay for £69.99 from tesco outlet last month..have some heat!

Decent compact with a good wide angled Carl Zeiss lens with a respectable 4x Zoom, excellent price, a mid-high end compact for a budget price.

Very expensive Sony dedicated memory (MemoryStick, etc.) - AVOID!

Even Sony have moved to SD cards on their latest cameras.

 Oh please, is that the be all end all of buying a camera, Memory Stick Pro Duo are not THAT more expensive, offset against the cost of the camera, £10-11 for an 8gb SD Card, £17.99 for a Sandisk 8GB Pro Duo.

One thing Sony have moved away by the looks of things from Carl Zeiss Lens, I would sooner them have kept that than moved over to SD Cards.

Price AND easy availability. SD is now the universal medium, as Sony have had to accept. Sony also expect to charge a premium for their brand name.

OK reviews, nothing special. There's a wide choice out there for £90 these days. One quote from a review:
" Similar cameras, perhaps with a little extra quality include the Panasonic DMC FS6 and the Panasonic DMC FS7." I'd go Panasonic any day. They used to charge a premium too but are very competitive these days. Leica branded lenses on most too.

Fair enough if there are better cameras for the same cash, just ridiculous you are taking an "anti Sony" stance on them using a proprietary format, I understand and agree that Sony are often understandably accused of this I am sure that on image quality the FS7 would edge this camera at this price point, but to tell people to avoid just because it utilises Sony Memory is ridiculous, hardly as if Memory Stick Pro Duo is not easily available, or for that matter SD to Pro Duo slot adaptors.

Sony here at this price too are not charging a premium for their brand name, Cyber Shot technology is well proven, Sony license their CCDs in Nikon Cameras, and Carl Zeiss Lenses DO come at a premium. Also their DSLR range after taking over Minoltas operations offer the best bang for buck and getting great reviews, hardly paying a premium for their brand name, unlike Canon DSLRs

At least take a pragmatic stance about Sony.

I can say that I own both a Sony Compact (second one) and a Sony DSLR (utilises CF) and I am more than pleased with their build and performance.

I have had a lot of trouble with cyber shot phones in the past, has anyone experienced problems with Sony cameras?? this is a great price, but is it too good to be true?

Not personally, used to own a K800i Cybershot and before that a K750, and have owned two Cybershot Compact Cameras, the 5 year old one of which is still working fine and in fact I am selling it today.

However, for image quality according to reviews the Panasonic FS7 does pip this camera, however single shot shutter lag is poor compared with the Sony, the FS7 the same price at Play.com. May be worth a trip to a local Currys or Comet and try both cameras out for feel.

I'm not taking a 'stance' on Sony, just advising the naive/uninformed that they will be locked into this more expensive memory. That is simply fact. The 'pragmatic' stance would be to recognise that there are many other excellent cameras out there which take SD and choose one of those.

Clearly you are already in the know (ie already living with the issue) so this information is of no value to you. Just ignore.

Hardly is an "issue" for me, I only need one memory card personally in my Compact Camera. To state in capitals "AVOID" is not "informing", hence you were not being pragmatic at all, it is impractical to diss a camera on memory type it utilises, at least at higher capacities, XD Cards were far more flawed in the maximum capacity being 2GB.

For picture quality, the Panasonic F7 beats the Sony for this price at Play.com, for build quality, lens and shutter speed the Sony has its advantages, the difference in cost of a memory stick can be a consideration for some, yes, but "avoid" is dissing the deal for no real reason.

Also bear in mind that the SD card format came out a year later than Sonys original Memory Stick in direct competition, marketing it being smaller to it's advantage, so in return Sony developed the Memory Stick Pro Duo...its called business all companies are in it tit-for tat.
