One of the better compact superzoom cameras on the market....

Still let down by the small sensor but the lens is excellent.....Zeiss optics always are & the images produced by the sensor are good allowing for the constraints caused by it's size........

At this price it's a good deal......even if it is Argos !!

main difference is surely no manual focus option?
still lots of places mention you can manual focus but not sure on it... no control ring though?

However, you may be right and Sony just did a cut-n-paste on their spec sheet. I guess if you need Manual Focus and/or GPS then the HX90 would be worth the extra 50 quid.

I have the HX20v and agree the picture quality is excellent for the sensor size, it's still a big limitation. I would go for a RX100 if you can stretch to it but the zoom ain't as long though. Horses for courses I guess...

Demands entirely on what you want from a camera. They have completely different roles.

Can you stick a DSLR with a 30x zoom lens in your pocket ??

Can you take photographs with great low grain images in poor light with the creative control of aperture. shutter speed, focus, depth of field, high speed accurate constant focus with the compact ??

They are completely different.......with the exception that both take photographs......so it's like comparing a DSLR of a Compact with a mobile phone

I've always waited to see if I could get the rx100 at a good price. May just settle for this

Two comments, the Argos listing says that the HX80 has a 20MP sensor. This is incorrect, it has an 18.2MP sensor.

The differences between the HX90V and HX80 are as follows: the 90v has GPS and a control ring round the lens neither of which the HX80 has.

Hope this helps.

The RX100Mk2 was £349 on Amazon last week. Worth keeping an eye on it.

The MK1 is available for £299.

tough to accept when they have both been at least 50quid cheaper in the past

Again different beasts.........the RX100 has a much larger sensor.......but also only has a 4x zoom

Someone who wants RX100 features is not likely to want this
