Providing crisp digital and FM radio and small enough to be taken with you for use while working outdoors or enjoying a picnic, this radio is a powerful little package.

It was 49.99. Now 24.99.

There seems to be a problem with my set,as I wanted to use it as a battery set, however it keeps switching itself off and I can get only one preset station. Have not tried it plugged in. It might be all right this way. I have two other DAB sets plugged in, that pick up all the stations I want, so it's not a reception problem. Have just disposed of my old Sony battery radio (not DAB). That was excellent for years.

why have you quoted this one review that doesn't even make much sense! this deal is hot hot hot!

Seems quite a good deal, shame Sainsburys technology deals seem so unpredictable, more often than not they don't have them at other stores.
#9
You mean you don't have a Bang & Olufsen......?

This model in the picture is an XDR-S50 which doesn't have FM (Zoom in you can see the model number). Check when you get them that they do have a FM tuner.

Sony XDR-S50 DAB radio review from Pocket-Lint if it helps any.

Not much mentioned on Reevoo but does score 8.2/10. Whether this means anything is up to you to decide.

There's also a reasonably good review on TechRadar as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality compact radio from Sony, 12 Jun 2008
By Fizzy Cola Bottle (UK) - See all my reviews

I have been very happy with this radio since I purchased it. The build quality and sound quality are far better than many more expensive DAB/FM radios, plus it's perfect for travelling as it is very compact. Reception is also spot on - 100% reception quality on all the DAB stations available in my area.

After reading about the short battery life on here, I decided to use non-rechargeable Energizer Ultimate Lithium 'Digital' batteries (currently use them in a digital camera). They are claimed to last up to seven times longer than 'normal' alkaline batteries. I can vouch for this as I haven't yet had to replace the batteries after many hours of use.

I am happy to recommend this DAB radio to people who are looking for a small DAB radio with built-in FM and good sound quality. "

Just warning people that this radio could be great. :whistling:

It has an average of 4 stars out of 5 on Amazon from 41 reviews so posting a solitary 1 star review is hardly representative (Just as posting only a 5 star review isnt representative). ;-)

If it does not have an fm tuner then it may be one for the bin if they change to a different form of dab.

It is not so cheap, it may be a brand but still may not be made by sony directly making it no better than supermarket brands at this price. What is the hoo haa for these things anyhows a good fm radio is better than this tosh ??

I have a little sony transistor radio on the window ledge of the kitchen and it last months from 2 aa batteries, it wont set the world alight but you can hear it and it takes up NO space.

The Sainsbury's model is the XDR-S55 which does indeed have the FM tuner.

I own one of these. Bought it from Argos a while ago for just under £50 and find it really very good. At this price I'd certainly buy another.

thanks - does look like the battery life is quite poor

and only battery is listed as power in the table. and only battery is mentioned in the blurb on sainsburys site.

Will give this a miss.
