Ive got the DAV-DZ260 and it looks similar to this?

Whats the difference?

It is also brilliant

If the DZ260 is a higher model u may aswell pay a extra £7 (£130 delivered) for it (plus potential quidco also)

voted hot tho

Edit - I just had a quick look on the sony website and other sites and the DAV-DZ260 appears to be newer with slightly more features

Sony DAV-DZ230 - http://www.sony.co.uk/product/hcs-surround-kit---dvd-player/dav-dz230#pageType=Overview

Sony DAV-DZ260 - http://www.sony.co.uk/product/hcs-surround-kit---dvd-player/dav-dz260#pageType=Overview

I'd rather pay the extra £7 for the newer 1 what I have to be honest with optical if I was looking to get 1 now

Still hot though

The DZ230 doesn't have optical input, so cant be used with an xbox 360, PS3 or Surround TV, whereas the DZ260 Does have optical input.

However the DZ230 supports divx, whereas the UK version of the DZ260 doesn't, contrary to what amazon told me when i ordered one a few months back..

ye, in my manual it mention no divx on the english model, but the optical is a big plus, i got a splitter with my 360 plugged in and sky +

and no mention of the 230 having a USB either, I have the 260 and I have an external powered HDD hooked up to it with mp3's on, plays the flawlessly and saves me having to turn the PS3 on to play them through that..

defo worth the extra money getting the 260

No optical but can still be linked to a PS3, just not in 5:1, only stereo. Set the audio output on PS3 to Audio Input Connector/SCART/AV MULTI and keep Video Output setting on HDMI.

I expect similar for 360.

230 does not have USB.

Interested in the 260 but it doesn't play divx which would be needed for me.

Also need optical input to plug in my sky +

Can anyone tell me of a DVD Home Cinema (doesn't have to be sony) that plays divx, has hdmi upscaling, has optical input and also if posslbe has tallboy speakers (black). Don't mind paying extra, just can't find one that does everything I want!

The DZ660 can do all that but is about twice as much as this deal.

but what if you want to play blu-ray? could you buy sony's blu-ray player and swap with the existing? does anyone know if its compatiable? as i have this system but want to nudge over to blu-ray!

Thanks - looks interesting but prob slightly too highly priced. Saw a nice Pioneer one from Richer Sounds at £200 had everything except optical input!

I have no idea what this is like but seems pretty decent and does what you want.

Not a bad price but you can get the newer model for 130.00 delivered at Amazon.

i bought this over a year ago for £149.99, i'd xpect it to be cheaper than this as this is an old model now. The sound is pretty decent for the price you pay, the only problem is it doesn't have an optical input. I didn't vote on this.

the only 2 dvd's i have what are region 1 is hitch and norbit, hitch works but on norbit it says it cannot play, hitch must be multi region or something but norbit must be locked onto region 1 and cannot play, so unfortunately the answer looks like a no, i dont know if you can get a add on tho what unlocks the dvd player though

Thank you that looks ideal - rep added

Ok another q as I am really very new to all this - with Tallboy speakers, do they have to be positioned all around the room or can you have all 4 near the front of the TV, I read somewhere about Pioneers being able to do this at the front, does this apply to all systems or is it some feature that only some have.
#18
I'm not sure on this set up but I know Sony systems have a feature enabling you to have the speakers in different positions for awkward shaped rooms etc. You get a little mic that plugs into the DVD which you position where you would sit. It then tests all speakers and sets up the best sound. I'm sure there would be options to do similar on other makes.

Yes you can put all the speakers at the front by changing the calibration settings.
