been looking at this for a while. amazon have had it as low as £120 in the last few days, price seems to change daily. Keep an eye on it. Still good value at this price. Hot.
#2
yes it was 120 for 1 day. amazon only seem to drop price when dixons do.
i bought at 137.86 still cheap tho especially wen ur getting free speaker stands.
i didnt want to wait 4 price 2 drop just incase they ran out of stock or price went up.
havent seen any bad reviews about this item and have read 50+

i believe this one doesnt have the all important Divx player, the sony davdz230 has this option but not the usb port but retail around similar price, still heat added

I got this from amazon a while ago for about £130 with next day delivery. Great bit of kit, I have tried playing divx from a usb key which does NOT work, however a friend with the same player said it does work from a DVD (I havent tried it).

i have a fantastic Pioneer TV and DVD player costing nearly £3,000 and want surround sound - anyone know if surround sound speakers can just be bought or would this kind of product have to do?

If you spent £3k on the tv/dvd player I would suggest buying a separate amp/speakers/cabling etc rathern than a kit like this.

It can, we use it as a cd player as well (mainly play music off the usb key).
#16
Excellent, hopefully get one ordered on pay day :) Cheers shane.

why is the price here higher than on Amazon? Also where does it say the free stand is included?
#18
be warned!!!

If you neighbours are a little sensitive to noise this system BOOMS!

no really option to limit the bass (night mode does little to reduce it)

Personally i love it though and hooked up to my PS3 either playing games or watching bluray DVDs i just can't go wrong (apart from that late night singstar session the other night)

i paid £130 delivered for this about 3 months ago when posted on a similar deal on HUKD - for the price you won't regret it

Dont know if it is as standard but im pretty sure theres a hack for it.
#24
ye it will work fine as a cd/dvd player, got this downstairs, v good system, the bass goes through the floor/couch walls bet my neighbours love me,easy set up as well-only downside i can mention is our hd tele isn't sony so we cant use all the functions on the remote so we have 3 remotes and remotes always get lost!!!

I'm interested in this, but I don't really want to mess about with an optical splitter for my PS3, 360, and Sky HD. Would I still get 5.1 on my Blu-rays , HD-DVDs, games and Sky movie channels by connecting the optical out of my TV to this unit, rather than directly connecting my consoles or Sky HD box?

I'll have a look around and see if i can find something

Same question as asked above, can I connect both my Sky HD box and PS3 to this at the same time without any problems?

I only have PS3, Sony HD TV and this unit, and I use:

optical from PS3 to surround sound

HDMI from PS3 to TV

Scart to phono from TV to surround sound
I then get 5.1 from TV and PS3 (games and Blu-Ray)

You can't run PS3 to TV via HDMI only and get sound through this unit as the HDMI signal is only for video and sound up to the TV (you would get sound through your TV speakers, but not back down to the surround sound unit).

Hope that helps.

I don't have any Surround sound unit but am interested and I was under the impression that you would need TWO HDMI leads, one from PS3 to sound unit and then from that to the TV.

I am very interested in getting this sound unit but I would like to know all the leads that I need as I don't want to run to currys every 5 minutes. I have a Sony Bravia TV, PS3 and a freeview box (which only has scart output).

Cheers

sorry, yes, also HDMI from surround sound to TV (the scart to phono provides the sound).

Out of interest, does your Bravia not have freeview already built in so you won't need the extra box? my S3020 does ... also you can use the Bravia Theatre Synch from this unit - it all links up perfectly.

Don't get the cables from Currys, you'll pay through the nose!! You can get HDMI cables for £2.99 from places like Home Bargains (or from eBay). Optical cables and scart to phono can be had for a couple of quid from eBay (I paid less than £10 for all 3 cables!).

I had one of these all in DVD and surround sound things fro Sony (a DAVS-500) and I would recommend getting separates. Yes you will have extra cabling and need an extra power point, but the one I had wasnt particularly good as a DVD player or a Surround Sound System.

Also these DVD players (and DVD films) will get even more cheaper as they need to shift the old stock to make room for the Blue-Ray stuff.
#34
How long are the cables for the sattelites and I can'y see anywhere on the sight that mentions anything about free stands!

If this is a UK model then it will not play divx unfortunatly.

Thanks very much for the reply and it helps greatly.
My Bravia does have inbuilt freeview but I use a seperate PVR box and so never use the inbuilt one.

PS. If anyone wants the manual for this unit then it is here:

There must be at least 10m of cable per speaker (more for the rear pair)

Hello,
I've ordered this unit from Amazon plus an optical cable.
But having looked at the Sony online manual for this product, I can't see any phono inputs except for a 3.5mm jack at the front.
As I have a very similar setup to you, can you tell me the scart->phono cable that you got? A web link would be great.

Thanks again for all your help.
